Story
What is FIV? Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is one of the more common illnesses found in cats around the world. But don’t panic — with the right care, FIV positive kitties can live long, happy, cuddly lives! ________________________________________ 😺 How do cats get FIV? The most common way FIV spreads is through deep bite wounds, usually from serious cat fights. It can also pass through blood, in utero, or through the milk of an infected mama cat. But here’s the good news: Plenty of FIV positive and FIV negative cats live together peacefully for years without ever spreading the virus — especially when they’re friendly and not prone to fighting. And don’t worry: FIV can’t infect dogs, humans, or any other species. It’s a cats only kind of thing. ________________________________________ 😻 Can FIV be treated? There’s no cure that removes the virus, but most FIV positive cats do just fine! The key is focusing on treating any secondary infections and keeping them healthy overall. With routine vet care, many FIV positive kitties live completely normal lives. ________________________________________ 🧡 Can FIV positive cats live long, good lives? Absolutely! Many FIV positive cats live lives that are just as long, loving, and full of naps as any other cat. With good care — especially keeping an eye on infections and dental health — they can be amazing, happy companions. ________________________________________ 🐈‍⬛ Can FIV positive and FIV negative cats live together? Yes! As long as the cats get along and don’t fight, coexisting is totally possible. The biggest risk is from biting, so introductions should be slow — maybe some “separate rooms at first” to make sure everyone stays chill.

Story
Meet Lola 🖤 Lola is a stunning black, medium-haired beauty with the fluffiest coat and an absolutely irresistible face. Born in a loading dock in Romulus alongside her six siblings, Lola’s life changed just hours after birth when her devoted mom, Diana, and the entire little family were rescued and brought safely indoors. Since then, Lola has grown up surrounded by love and security, and it shows. She’s playful, a little silly, and incredibly affectionate — the kind of girl who brings both fun and warmth wherever she goes. Her fluffy looks may grab your attention first, but it’s her sweet, loving personality that truly steals hearts. Lola thrives with feline companionship and would love to be adopted with one of her siblings. If that’s not possible, a home with a young, friendly, playful cat is a must for her happiness and confidence. If you’re looking for a gorgeous, affectionate kitty with a playful spirit and a big heart, Lola is ready to be your new best friend. Lola is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Story
Meet Panda & Binx! Looking for double the love, double the cuddles, and double the charm? Say hello to Panda and Binx, a bonded sibling pair who are ready to bring joy (and a little chonk) into your life! At 6 years old, Panda (the handsome tuxedo gentleman) and Binx (the sleek panther princess) have mastered the art of cozy living. These two are professional lap cats, enthusiastic door greeters, and experts at snuggling—both with each other and their people. Treats are a big hit in this household, and their delightfully chonky figures prove they take snack time very seriously. Panda is the confident ambassador of the pair—friendly, outgoing, and always happy to check out new visitors first. Binx prefers a more cautious approach. She’ll send Panda ahead to investigate, and once she decides you pass the vibe check, she’ll happily join in for cuddles and claim a lap of her own. These siblings share a special bond and are looking for a forever home together, where they can continue their life of love, lounging, and treat appreciation side by side. If your home has room for two affectionate, adorable best friends, Panda and Binx are ready to move in and steal your heart Panda & Binx are currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting them, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org.

Story
Meet Peridea — affectionately known as “Mama.” This lovely tortie girl was rescued from a dusty garage in Detroit, already carrying her precious kittens. Just a week after coming into care, she gave birth and proved to be the most devoted mama. Peridea can be shy when meeting new people, but once she feels safe, she melts for gentle neck scratches and will happily chat with you in her soft, sweet voice. She adores her kittens and gets along wonderfully with the resident cats in her foster home. While she tolerates dogs from a distance, she’d be happiest in a quieter home without dogs — but with feline friends to keep her company. Her ideal match? Another friendly cat, or even better, one of her babies — especially her daughter Mandalore, who takes after her mama’s gentle spirit. If you’re looking for a kind, loving companion with a heart as beautiful as her story, Peridea would love to find her forever home with you. Peridea is currently in a foster home.

Story
Meet Poppi! Poppi is a little shy, a trait that only adds to her charm. She appreciates the company of her fellow felines, finding comfort and companionship in their presence. Which makes her a great addition to a home that already has feline friends. She has a soft spot for treats, but don't expect her to be overly affectionate. Poppi might not be the type to sit on your lap and purr, but she will bring joy and companionship to your home. Her unique personality makes her the perfect pet for someone who appreciates a cat with an independent spirit. Poppi requires a patient and understanding adopter. Someone who can understand her initial reticence and give her the time she needs to come out of her shell. The joy of watching Poppi bloom into a confident, loving pet is a reward in itself. Poppi is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Meet Tuff Nut! This adorable little house panther is equal parts cuddler and adventurer! Tuff Nut is a big-time snuggler who loves curling up in your lap, but he also has a mischievous streak that keeps life fun. Tuff Nut is part of the Snuggle Squad, a group of kittens from three different litters who have grown up together and bonded into the most loving, social crew. Because of this, Tuff Nut needs to be adopted out as a pair with one of his best buddies: Tart, Eclair, Strudel, Toothless, Astrid, Hiccup, Pascha, Peter, Lark, Lily, or Blossom. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly kitten with a playful side, Tuff Nut is your perfect match! Tuff Nut is currently in a foster home.
