Story
What is FIV? Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is one of the more common illnesses found in cats around the world. But don’t panic — with the right care, FIV positive kitties can live long, happy, cuddly lives! ________________________________________ 😺 How do cats get FIV? The most common way FIV spreads is through deep bite wounds, usually from serious cat fights. It can also pass through blood, in utero, or through the milk of an infected mama cat. But here’s the good news: Plenty of FIV positive and FIV negative cats live together peacefully for years without ever spreading the virus — especially when they’re friendly and not prone to fighting. And don’t worry: FIV can’t infect dogs, humans, or any other species. It’s a cats only kind of thing. ________________________________________ 😻 Can FIV be treated? There’s no cure that removes the virus, but most FIV positive cats do just fine! The key is focusing on treating any secondary infections and keeping them healthy overall. With routine vet care, many FIV positive kitties live completely normal lives. ________________________________________ 🧡 Can FIV positive cats live long, good lives? Absolutely! Many FIV positive cats live lives that are just as long, loving, and full of naps as any other cat. With good care — especially keeping an eye on infections and dental health — they can be amazing, happy companions. ________________________________________ 🐈‍⬛ Can FIV positive and FIV negative cats live together? Yes! As long as the cats get along and don’t fight, coexisting is totally possible. The biggest risk is from biting, so introductions should be slow — maybe some “separate rooms at first” to make sure everyone stays chill.

Story
Meet Lola 🖤 Lola is a stunning black, medium-haired beauty with the fluffiest coat and an absolutely irresistible face. Born in a loading dock in Romulus alongside her six siblings, Lola’s life changed just hours after birth when her devoted mom, Diana, and the entire little family were rescued and brought safely indoors. Since then, Lola has grown up surrounded by love and security, and it shows. She’s playful, a little silly, and incredibly affectionate — the kind of girl who brings both fun and warmth wherever she goes. Her fluffy looks may grab your attention first, but it’s her sweet, loving personality that truly steals hearts. Lola thrives with feline companionship and would love to be adopted with one of her siblings. If that’s not possible, a home with a young, friendly, playful cat is a must for her happiness and confidence. If you’re looking for a gorgeous, affectionate kitty with a playful spirit and a big heart, Lola is ready to be your new best friend. Lola is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Story
Meet Panda & Binx! Looking for double the love, double the cuddles, and double the charm? Say hello to Panda and Binx, a bonded sibling pair who are ready to bring joy (and a little chonk) into your life! At 6 years old, Panda (the handsome tuxedo gentleman) and Binx (the sleek panther princess) have mastered the art of cozy living. These two are professional lap cats, enthusiastic door greeters, and experts at snuggling—both with each other and their people. Treats are a big hit in this household, and their delightfully chonky figures prove they take snack time very seriously. Panda is the confident ambassador of the pair—friendly, outgoing, and always happy to check out new visitors first. Binx prefers a more cautious approach. She’ll send Panda ahead to investigate, and once she decides you pass the vibe check, she’ll happily join in for cuddles and claim a lap of her own. These siblings share a special bond and are looking for a forever home together, where they can continue their life of love, lounging, and treat appreciation side by side. If your home has room for two affectionate, adorable best friends, Panda and Binx are ready to move in and steal your heart Panda & Binx are currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting them, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. Story
Hello beautiful humans! My name is Cinnamon and I am a stunning 3-year-old Siamese female in search of my forever home. My story is a little bit sad, but my hope is that you can be my happy ending, does that sound okay to you? I was adopted to a family as a little baby girl and I was told that all my dreams had come true, I was finally home where I was meant to be! But after a while my family started to treat me weird, and I was tossed out of their door and left to wander the streets by myself for months. I had never been an outside kitty and I didn't know what I was doing, so I was really skinny and sick by the time I wandered to this nice ladies house. She took me in and nursed me back to health, she was so kind and sweet to me. We ended up finding out that I have IBD, but it doesn't impact how well I cuddle or how much I love you, because I really really do love humans! I just might need some help managing that with the occasional round of steroids or some probiotics. As of right now I am not on any prescription food. Overall I am a super sweet and social girl. It takes me a little bit to get to know you, but once I do we are bonded for life! I get along well with other cats and do great with dogs. I have lived with kids in the past, but young ones move a little to fast for me! I promise to be your best friend forever. Cinnamon is currently in a foster home.

Story
Meet Colin & Glenn – The Ultimate Brother Duo We truly can’t figure out how Colin and Glenn are still waiting for their forever home. Good looks? Check. Friendly? Check. Affectionate and loving? Check. Playful without the chaotic kitten energy? Big check. Love other cats? Double check. Treat motivated? Honestly… more like treat obsessed. Colin and Glenn are bonded brothers and proud FIP graduates — now healthy, happy, and fully ready to start their next chapter together. They are deeply devoted to one another and would thrive in a calm, loving home where they can continue being best friends. Glenn is the sleek, stunning black panther of the pair. He’s a world-class cuddler who adores his foster mom and shows his affection with nonstop purring and enthusiastic biscuit-making. Personal space is optional in Glenn’s world — he is always ready for snuggles and attention. Colin is a strikingly marked tabby with a slightly more reserved personality, but don’t be fooled — he is just as loving. He enjoys curling up close and will politely (and repeatedly) meow for more pets when he decides he hasn’t had enough. These boys grew up around other cats and genuinely enjoy feline company. They love to play together, chasing each other around and going absolutely wild for string toys. When playtime is over, they’re happiest relaxing together, soaking up love. If you’re looking for a ridiculously handsome, affectionate, playful (but not over-the-top) bonded pair to bring warmth and joy into your home, Colin & Glenn are your guys. Colin & Glenn are currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Story
Meet Faith – Your Playful, Chatty Sidekick! Hi, I’m Faith! I was rescued from the euthanasia list at a local shelter (thankfully!), and now I’m on a mission to find my forever family. I’m beyond grateful for my foster mom, who has helped me blossom into the fun, energetic, and loving girl I am today. I’m a super chatty kitty who loves to have full-on conversations with my humans—my adorable chirps will melt your heart! I’m playful, curious, and always on the move. I have major kitten energy, so I’ll keep you entertained with my zoomies, playful "ambushes" (I’ll gently paw at your legs when you least expect it—gotcha!), and love for all things catnip. If it's on the floor, it’s my new favorite toy! I love being around people but can also keep myself busy with toys. I’d be happy as an only cat, but I also get along with other kitties as long as we have slow introductions. My foster cat siblings prefer naps, but I’d love a friend who enjoys playtime as much as I do! I’ve also been told my markings are super unique, giving me an extra cool look—and I have to admit, I rock a bowtie pretty well! Because I can get overstimulated and have an independent streak, I’d do best in a home without kids. I need a family who understands my playful and sometimes sassy personality and will give me space when I need it. I have a sneaky suspicion that my forever family is just around the corner—could it be you? Let’s meet and find out! Faith is currently in a foster home.
