Story
Meet Bob!Bob is 1year old, neutered, and fully vetted Chihuahua mix. Bob is a lover at heart and the BEST snuggle-bug! He craves human connection and affection, although initially he is scared of people and needs time to trust and feel safe. Once he learns that he is safe, he wants to be your shadow! Nights will never be lonely again with Bob by your side! He’s dog friendly, but LOVES his human more. Bob is house trained with frequent visits outside and crate trained, but he’d rather stay with you.At a teeny 8lbs, Bob would make a great addition to an adults only household willing to let him decompress for a few days, as he gets to know you and your routine. As a timid Chihuahua, he’ll need a day or two to adjust and someone who is patient enough to allow Bob to come to them. After that he’s the best little companion. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn`t obligate you, but it is the first step. Meet Pontoon!Pontoon is a three-year-old, 15-pound Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul. He came to us from a hoarding situation, where he lived in a trailer with many other small dogs, and he’s now discovering what it means to feel safe and loved. Pontoon is heartworm-negative, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, and crate trained. He’s still polishing his house-training skills, but he’s making great progress. Quiet and shy at first, Pontoon blossoms once he’s comfortable—and then his true nature shines as a total snuggle bug who loves calm companionship. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Pepito! ????Pepito is a sweet, spirited 1-year-old chihuahua mix boy who is ready to find his forever home! He’s neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, and brings the perfect mix of playful energy and cozy companion vibes.Pepito adores his foster sisters and does wonderfully with small to medium-sized dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with canine friends. While he was a little unsure about leashes at first, he’s made quick progress and now loves going on walks—especially when there’s something new to sniff! He’s curious about cats and may bark at first, but with time and guidance, he learns to tolerate them well. Pepito would thrive in a home with a secure, fenced yard, as he’s quick on his feet and can turn into Speedy Gonzalez if given the chance to sneak out! When he’s not zooming around or out on a walk, Pepito enjoys the simple pleasures in life—sunbathing, relaxing in the backyard, and curling up under blankets. He’s fully house trained, confidently using a doggy door, and is crate trained, where he happily burrows in for cozy naps.If you’re looking for a loving, playful pup who also knows how to relax and soak up the sunshine, Pepito might just be your perfect match. ??To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Petal!Petal is a 4 month old Chihuahua mix who came from a severe hoarding situation and had little to no socialization, so the world as a pet is completely new to her.She is very fearful of new people, sudden movements, and unfamiliar situations and will need a patient, calm adopter who allows her to move at her own pace. She is not a cuddly puppy right away — trust will take time. She must have a confident, friendly dog in the home to help guide her, a secure fenced yard, and would do best in a home with no small children. She may be shy now, but with consistency and kindness, she will continue to grow. For the right adopter, helping her discover that the world can be safe will be incredibly rewarding. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Clementine!Clementine is a beautiful, sweet long legged tan and white chihuahua mix, around 10-12 pounds. She was born into a hoarding situation. When she came to us at around 1-1 1/2 hears of age, she was terrified of everything. Likely never knowing the touch of a loving hand or the grass under her feet. She loves other animals, and would likely be fine with cats also because of her sweet nature. Clementine has worked with a behaviorist and is working on learning to be the pet that she wants to be. She also takes lots of cues from other animals in the home. While she is still learning to trust, she has made great strides. Her foster mom said, Clementine loves to follow me around, often so closely I can feel her nose on the back of my leg. Her first instinct is still to hide when you walk into the room, but then she slowly comes out. She often takes treats from my hand. On her own, she has started to come out into the den and sit on the couch with the family in the evenings with the other pets, which is huge for her. She is figuring out that she does like to be petted and loved on. She is also learning to be picked up, which you still need to keep working on. Clementine has learned how to use the doggy door to go potty and loves playing chase outside with the other dogs. At night she stays in the bathroom and she uses a pee pad.Clementine would prefer a family that has a fairly quiet home without lots of different people coming and going. An apartment may not be best because she does bark at times. It takes her a minute to warm up to other animals, but then she is fine. She is mostly just scared, not aggressive at all. She needs someone who has time to keep reinforcing good behavior. Even keeping her on a leash in the beginning to keep her engaged and help her to form bonds with her family and not just hide away. She prefers to eat in a room by herself, not because of aggression at all, but it just makes her more comfortable (we put her in the laundry room for 2-3 minutes and she scarfs her food down). If you are considering Clementine, know that she is sweet and precious, but scared, especially of new places and people, especially men. It is important to have someone that will work with her so she can grow further, so she doesn’t slide back into old habits. She is so worth it. It has been a joy to see her blossom and she will continue to grow with the right family and environment. Do you have the time and love it requir
