Story
Olivia is a special and sweet girl. She adores her human, has a mind of her own, and does not hesitate to let you know when she thinks she is not getting the attention she expects :) Her favorite thing seems to be to curl up under the blanket with her human and take long naps. She lives with 5 other dogs and is getting along great with them. She isn't scared to tell her big 50lb sister who is boss! She is very curious and wants to know what is going on at all times. She wants to be where you are to make sure she can keep an eye on you. Olivia has a few special needs, and is looking for a special family that will given her the extra care she requires. She can't use her back legs due to what might be a spinal injury. She does have sensation in both back legs though, so we started with some mobility exercises for a few months. We have also fitted her with a set of fancy pink wheels and she took to them immediately. They give her freedom, and she has quickly mastered how to navigate corners. She gets to wear them in the house several hours a day, until she decides she needs her precious naps. Now she zips around the house and the yard like a pro! She hasn't been doing exercises for some time now, however she has gained a bit more strength in her back legs and is able to stand up and take a few wobbly steps at a time. She also went for a short walk outside where she met several neighborhood kids and pups. More walks to come once the weather improves. Olivia is also a little incontinent, and that has been very easy to manage with washable diapers and a little help. Olivia has an amazingly inspiring zest for life and doesn't let this slow her down one bit. She is looking for her special family that will be willing to give her the little extra care she needs with loads of love that she absolutely demands :)Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 12:17 am

Story
Meet the one-of-a-kind Maya! She is a 13yo (almost 14yo in January) Chihuahua. Maya is a mild-mannered, senior dog weighing 12lbs. She was a puppy rescue at about 12wks old. Maya is moving a lot slower these days but does have an occasional zoomie! Maya is spayed, microchipped, and her vaccines are up-to-date. She has a small heart murmur, and is losing peripheral vision. Maya is low-key doggie who loves to lounge in a cozy bed with a warm blanket. She also likes a warm sweater. As she ages, Maya can be a little stubborn. She coexists with cat in the home. Maya likes to be told she is â&#194&#128&#194&#156a good girlâ&#194&#128&#194&#157 from her human, enjoys gentle pets, and accepts gentle hugs. An ideal home for Maya would be one with a fenced yard or patio, perhaps with someone who works from home or is retired to allow her multiple opportunities to go outside. Maya is crate and house trained, although she needs more frequent breaks because of incontinence. Maya does enjoy slow walks on a leash and special treats. She might cautiously bark at a dog when on a walk but mostly minds her business. Maya has been a good little doggie all of her life. Her owner recently fell, had extensive knee surgery, and has a long road to recovery. Maya requires more support than they can give her at this time, and they are desperate to find her a loving home willing to take her in to live out the rest of her life through adoption. This genuine, little doggie is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Apply to adopt Maya today! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * If you have a specific question about Maya, then please email newdigs@dallaspetsalive.org. Story
Meet Max: A Tiny Chihuahua with a Big Heart At just 12 pounds, Max may be small but has the personality to be a huge loving part of your life! Heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s currently living in a foster home where heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s proven himself to be a true social butterflyâ&#194&#128&#194&#148he adores other dogs and even has proven himself to love a good brewery patio. Max was born with a congenital heart defect, but thanks to modern veterinary medicine, thereâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s real hope it can be corrected with surgery after his heartworm infection clears. With the right care and treatment, his future is looking brightâ&#194&#128&#194&#148and heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s ready to share it with a family who will love him as much as he deserves. At his core, Max is a gentle, affectionate companion who thrives on love and security. Heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s looking for a family that will not only give him the chance at a healthier life through his upcoming heart surgery, but also a lifetime of kindness, belly rubs, and soft beds. Could you be the one to show this little guy that his forever home is full of love and safety? Bonus: he has a cute tweaked ear. Mighty Max would be a mighty fine addition to your household. Mighty Max is available for pre-adoption and to be foster-to-adopt as he still has some medical needs we are working through. If you foster-to-adopt (FTA) Max, DPA will continue to cover his medical care until he is cleared for adoption. All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption.
