Story
Meet Bob!Bob is 1 year old, neutered, and fully vetted Chihuahua mix. Bob is a lover at heart and the BEST snuggle-bug! He craves human connection and affection, although initially he is scared of people and needs time to trust and feel safe. Once he learns that he is safe, he wants to be your shadow! Nights will never be lonely again with Bob by your side! He’s dog friendly, but LOVES his human more. Bob is house trained with frequent visits outside and crate trained, but he’d rather stay with you.At a teeny 8lbs, Bob would make a great addition to an adults only household willing to let him decompress for a few days, as he gets to know you and your routine. As a timid Chihuahua, he’ll need a day or two to adjust and someone who is patient enough to allow Bob to come to them. After that he’s the best little companion. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn`t obligate you, but it is the first step. We don`t get to all of the inquires but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!

Story
Meet PunkyWhen Punky first came to our home in February, he was terrified of people. He wouldn`t stay in the same room with us, and if he got loose, we`d have to gently herd him back because he was so afraid. Today, thanks to patience, routine, and lots of gentle encouragement, he has made incredible progress. He now happily follows commands to go outside into our fenced yard or come back inside, is completely house-trained and crate-trained, and walks nicely on a leash. He gets along wonderfully with our other dogs and enjoys being part of the pack. He even taught our terrier how to catch treats in his mouth. He`s also a great little watchdog, barking only when he notices unfamiliar people around the neighborhood. While he`s still a shy boy, every week brings another small victory. He`ll relax on the couch with you—usually about three feet away—and is content just being near his people. He still isn`t confident enough to climb into your lap on his own, so you`ll need to gently pick him up from his bed if you`d like to hold him. Once he`s there, he settles in quietly.Punky isn`t looking for a family that expects an instant cuddle bug. He`s looking for someone who understands that trust is earned and that the biggest rewards come from watching a timid dog blossom. His ideal home will be calm, patient, and willing to let him move at his own pace. Having another friendly, confident dog would likely help him continue building his confidence. If you`ve ever wanted to be the person who changes a dog`s world, Punky is ready to meet you. He`s already come so far, and with a little more love and patience, we know his best days are still ahead. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn`t obligate you, but it is the first step. We don`t get to all of the inquiries but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!

Story
Meet Portland!Portland is a one and a half year old, 12 pound Chihuahua mix with a tender heart and a quiet, observant nature. Rescued from a hoarding situation with many other small dogs, she is still learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and part of a family. Portland enjoys simple comforts — spending time in a secure yard, relaxing on a soft blanket, and playing with toys (especially the ones she can expertly de squeak). She is heartworm negative, vaccinated, spayed, crate trained, and making steady progress with house training while reliably using puppy pads.Because of her past, Portland is very shy and can become easily overwhelmed or feel unsure. In those moments, she can show fear based reactivity, which is her way of communicating that she needs more space and time to feel safe. With slow introductions, gentle handling, and predictable routines, she begins to relax and let her sweet personality emerge.Portland will thrive in a patient, quiet home that understands fearful dogs and is willing to let her build trust at her own pace. A confident, friendly companion dog would be especially helpful in showing her the world is safe and supporting her as she continues to blossom into the happy, trusting little dog she’s meant to be.To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. Meet Dolores!Dolores is a Chihuahua mix estimated to be around 8 years old, but she has the energy and spirit of a much younger pup—we would have guessed closer to 5! This sweet girl simply wants to love and be loved. She is affectionate, cuddly, and happiest by her person’s side. She may take a little time to warm up to someone new, but it doesn’t take long—and once she trusts you, she’ll happily become your devoted little shadow. When Dolores came into rescue, she had two large lacerations on her back. We don’t know what she endured, but thankfully, she is healing beautifully. Despite her past, Dolores remains loving and trusting with people. She also enjoys other dogs and loves joining them for playtime. And if you enjoy getting out for a walk, Dolores is ready to go! She really enjoys her walks and does great on a leash. She walks nicely without pulling, making her a wonderful little walking companion. A little more about Dolores:* Estimated 8 years old, but acts much younger* Potty trained* Crate trained* Does great with other dogs* Enjoys playing with her doggy friends* Loves going for walks* Walks great on a leash without pulling* Loving and affectionate* Loves to cuddle* Wants to be near her human* Warms up quickly to new peopleDolores has been through more than she ever deserved, and now she’s ready for the happy ending she’s been waiting for—a family of her very own.If you’re looking for a loving little companion who will cuddle by your side, play with her doggy friends and happily join you for a walk, Dolores just might be your girl. Story
Meet Bonbon 🐾 Bonbon came to NTASR as part of the Smith County cruelty and hoarding case, where 38 dogs were rescued from heartbreaking conditions. While we'll never know everything she experienced before rescue, one thing is certain: she's discovering just how wonderful life can be when you're safe, loved, and spoiled a little. Estimated to be between 4 and 6 years old and weighing just 19 pounds, Bonbon is a tiny bundle of joy with a big personality. This sweet, goofy girl knows how to have fun! She loves a good play session, but she's equally happy curling up beside her favorite person for a long afternoon nap. Bonbon is incredibly affectionate and isn't shy about asking for more attention. Expect a gentle paw on your arm whenever she decides the pets have stopped a little too soon. She's also a huge fan of mealtime. The moment you pick up her food bowl, Bonbon breaks into the cutest happy dance, spinning excitedly in circles before racing to her kennel for dinner. Food and treats are definitely the way to this girl's heart. Bonbon is fully vetted, potty trained, puppy pad trained, crate trained, and has great house manners. She still finds loud noises and walking on a leash a little scary, and she prefers having her person nearby when it's time to go outside. As her confidence continues to grow, she's learning that the world isn't such a scary place after all. When meeting new people, Bonbon can be a little cautious and might greet them with an adorable little grumble. Don't let it fool you. A few tasty treats, a little patience, and some gentle affection are usually all it takes before she's asking for pets instead. Bonbon enjoys the company of other dogs and would absolutely love having a playful canine companion to help build her confidence. That said, she'd also be perfectly happy as the center of attention with an attentive family who enjoys playing, cuddling, and making her feel safe. Bonbon has so much love to give and is just waiting for someone to see the incredible little dog she's become. If you're looking for a playful cuddle bug with a goofy streak, soulful eyes, and enough affection to brighten every day, Bonbon is ready to steal your heart. ❤️
