Story
Meet Buddy: the pint-sized powerhouse with the heart of a lion and the energy of a caffeinated squirrel. This Chihuahua-Pitbull mix is here to prove that big things come in tiny, fierce packages. He may be small, but when it comes to plush toys, he’s a dedicated destroyer—no squeaker is safe. When he's not flexing his muscles in a game of tug-of-war, you’ll find him zooming around the house like he’s training for the Puppy Olympics. His hobbies include chasing his own tail, stealing socks, and barking at nothing... because, you know, someone has to protect the house from invisible threats.

Story
Hi everyone! Meet Snoopy.  He is a Long Hair Chihuahua Mix. He is a 14 pound ball of energy! His perfect day involves hiking through a forested trail or exploring a rocky beach. He is always up for an adventure in nature! He loves jumping over logs and walking through shallow creeks. Afterwards he can relax and snuggle on the couch. He is very affectionate and love giving kisses! Post nap, he can play fetch or tug of war with his favorite squeaker toy. he can end the day with a peanut butter kong and some belly rubs. Dislikes: Walking on streets with heavy traffic, especially when buses and unmuffled cars drive by. The noise is stressful for him, and he prefers the safety of home. He is also sensitive to certain noises, and will alert with a bark. We have been working on ways to provide a relaxing outlet when there is too much going on during walks like a Citronella Collar.  This is a big reason why having my own backyard would be amazing! I like to watch over my home, so new people must allow me a chance to feel safe around them.. Once they walk through the door,  It helps is meeting new people while on a leash. It shows me they are friendly and safe. I am a nervous dog by breed or nature.  I have been trying to build a more secure peronality.  A good trainer and dedicated adopter can help me overcome my fears.  I'm not crate trained but have used a pen. I'm working on the pen being my safe space. I do very well at the veterinary clinic and have gotten compliments for my sweet nature. I also do well getting my nails professionally trimmed.  I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. What I need: No young children.  I do better with adults. A gated backyard. I absolutely love running and can run for hours! My fast, agile body would be amazing at agility courses He can be shy and nervous around other dogs, especially if they don't respect boundaries. However, he can be comfortable with them over time.   ##1867517##

Story
Nuggie is a 15-year-old Chihuahua with so much love to give! He’s a devoted companion who finds comfort in being close to his person, and truly thrives on that special one-on-one bond. He gets along well with other dogs and cats and brings a calm, easygoing presence to a quiet home. Nuggie will be happiest with someone who is around most of the time to help him feel safe and secure. Because of his sensitive nature, Nuggie needs an experienced, patient, adult-only home—ideally with one dedicated caregiver. He can be a bit particular about his space and handling at times, so he’ll do best with someone who understands small dogs and can read his cues, giving him the consistency and respect he needs to feel comfortable! In return, Nuggie will be a deeply loyal little companion who just wants a cozy place, a steady routine, and a person to love with his whole heart.

Story
Hi, I'm Gertie! I'm a 9-year-old Chihuahua with a gentle soul and a tender heart. I can be a little reserved when meeting new people and new experiences, so I'm looking for a patient family who will let me take my time and build trust at my own pace. Once I start feeling safe, I show my sweet side and enjoy being close to my people. I'm not the type to rush into friendships-I prefer a slow and steady approach, like a tiny little lady making sure everything is just right. With kindness, consistency, and a little patience, I hope to show my future family what a special companion I can be.*Qualifies for Pets for Patriots program*Qualifies for Senior to Senior programPlease email Adoptions@saltlakecounty.gov with questions Primary Color: Buff Weight: 11 Age: 9yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
Meet Brittney Female DOB: June 06, 2023 Weight: 10 pounds Breed: Chihuahua Mix Spayed (Fixed) Vaccines: Up to Date Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Brittney is an incredibly sweet, loving, and affectionate little girl who thrives on human companionship. At 2 years old, she has the perfect balance of youthful energy and adult maturity. Her favorite place is wherever her people are, and she is happiest when she can be close to those she loves. Brittney has a gentle heart and a friendly personality that makes it easy to fall in love with her. She enjoys affection, cuddles, and spending quality time with her family. Whether she's joining you for a walk, relaxing on the couch, or simply following you around the house, Brittney is a devoted companion who wants nothing more than to be part of your life. As a Chihuahua Mix, Brittney is likely to be intelligent, loyal, and deeply bonded to her family. Chihuahua mixes are known for their loving personalities and often form strong connections with their people. They thrive when included as part of the family and enjoy companionship, routine, and positive reinforcement. Brittney would thrive in a home prepared for: Daily companionship and interaction Continued training and guidance Mental stimulation and enrichment Structure, consistency, and routine Plenty of love and affection A lifelong commitment to her emotional and physical well-being She would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend and loving shadow. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from uncertain beginnings and may not have had structure, socialization, or training before arriving at rescue. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue training and support after adoption. Like all rescue dogs, Brittney may need time to adjust to a new home and routine. Patience, consistency, and love will help her feel secure and allow her wonderful personality to shine. Brittney will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Daily structure and routine Continued socialization and exposure Exercise and mental stimulation Patience, consistency, and supervision Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, guidance, and commitment, dogs like Brittney blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes training, daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, financial responsibility, and emotional commitment throughout every stage of life. Brittney will need: Daily walks, exercise, and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine veterinary care and wellness exams Preventative care including flea, tick, and heartworm prevention Proper nutrition and weight management Mental stimulation and enrichment A safe, stable, indoor living environment Because of her smaller size, care should be taken around larger animals, rough play, and unsecured outdoor spaces. Brittney is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside. Meet Rubi Female DOB: February 5, 2026 Weight: 20 pounds current Breed: Chi / Terrier Mix Expected Size: Medium when fully grown Spayed (Fixed): Vaccines: In Progress Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Rubi is a sweet, affectionate puppy with a loving personality and playful spirit. She enjoys spending time with her people, exploring her surroundings, and soaking up all the attention and affection she can get. Like many puppies, she is curious about the world and excited to learn new things every day. Rubi has intelligence, loyalty, athleticism, and a strong desire to bond with her family. Black Mouth Cur mixes are often known for their devotion and eagerness to please, while Terriers bring curiosity, confidence, and playful energy. Rubi is expected to mature into a small adult dog. Rubi would thrive in a home prepared for: Ongoing puppy training and supervision Daily exercise, playtime, and enrichment Positive socialization experiences Structure, consistency, and routine A lifelong commitment to her physical and emotional well-being Puppies are adorable, but they are also a major responsibility that requires patience, training, supervision, and long-term commitment. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue puppies come from uncertain beginnings and may not have had structure, socialization, or training before arriving at rescue. Even very young puppies require guidance and supervision to learn how to become confident, well-mannered adult dogs. Puppies are not automatically trained simply because they are young. While we work hard to provide safety, care, and basic socialization, adopters should expect to continue all training and development after adoption. Adopting a puppy means being prepared for: Potty training and accidents Teething and chewing phases Crate training and leash training Nighttime wakeups and supervision Jumping and playful puppy behavior Continued socialization and confidence-building Daily exercise and enrichment Routine veterinary visits and vaccine boosters Financial commitment throughout the dog's lifetime Rubi will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Daily structure and routine Continued socialization and exposure Mental stimulation and enrichment Patience, consistency, and supervision Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, guidance, and commitment, puppies like Rubi grow into wonderful lifelong companions. Rubi will need: Ongoing puppy training and guidance Routine veterinary visits and vaccine boosters Preventative care including flea, tick, and heartworm prevention Proper nutrition and growth monitoring Daily exercise, enrichment, and companionship A safe, stable, indoor living environment Puppies require regular veterinary care throughout their first year, including booster vaccines, wellness exams, and spay surgery when age-appropriate. Because Rubi is still young and growing, adopters should be prepared for the normal puppy stages that include chewing, teething, accidents, testing boundaries, and continued social development. Rubi is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
