Story
Stormy is the sweetest pea in the universe, and is hoping for a soft landing after all she's been through. Poor stormy came to us after her guardian sadly passed away, leaving her confused and left to navigate her new world on her own. Stormy is such a sweet, gentle and shy little baby, who thrives with love and affection, and slow understanding actions. She is quite nervous when it comes to body handling, and excels with co-operative care and patience so she can gain confidence in new experiences. We don't know too much about her history sadly, but it does appear her world was quite small and she requires someone who is able to apply fear free - force free methods with lots of positive reinforcement. Cars are very frightening for her, and she is still quite unsure of the harness and going on walkies, so she is hoping for the best- most patient guardian! Stormy LOVES her people, and really enjoys getting her pets and snuggles, and making her rounds to see all who love on her! We have slowly seen her come out of her shell as she has been with us, and are sure she will have a personality that shines so brightly once she finds her confidence! She tends to keep her head down and slinks over to you with her little tail wagging away, making the sweetest little grunts and she receives your affection. She can be a little reactive to new people at first, and does best with slow introductions, but is very quickly won over! So far, we have seen a few positive interactions with other canines, and stormy has previously lived with two other dogs! She does show some resource guarding with high value items, and it would be best to ensure she is feeling comfortable and has her own space when she needs. We haven't had the chance to introduce her face to face to any of the dogs in our care, but think with the right home she would do well as she shows lots of excitement through the fence! She does have a prey drive however and isn't suitable for livestock like chickens as she finds them too much fun!Stormy is a foodie, and wont say no to a good snack! She is very smart and motivated to learn, and will do wonders with her training and confidence gaining! She is waiting on her spay surgery and a dental surgery, and is seeking a foster to adopt situation so she can get out of the shelter and settle into her home! Are you able to offer this sweet heeler a chance at a new life? Please put in an application below if you are interested, and staff will be interviewing applicants as they come! https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-comox/ Primary Color: Blue Merle Weight: 17.4 Age: 6yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
Introducing Oso: A Gentle Giant in Need of Love and Patience!Oso is a very handsome and endearing young fella, with a heart that's ready to open up to a world of love and care. Oso has had a challenging start to life, as he spent the first 3.5 years of his life on a chain during the day and only to be brought in at night. This experience has left him a bit wary of new people and unfamiliar situations, but with the right understanding and patient guidance, Oso has the potential to flourish into a devoted and affectionate companion. One of Oso's most endearing qualities is his oversized goofiness and boundless excitement! He loves to throw his paws up in the air, flopping around and doing the most hilarious "drive by" run while he makes the funniest sounds!Oso's ideal home would feature a secure backyard where he can stretch his legs, play, and bask in the joy of being free to move around as he is so used to having space and outdoor time. Oso can be quite reactive to other dogs and will need some guidance on this in his future, and will thrive under positive reinforcement training and handling. He should be introduced slowly to dogs and rewarded for relaxed behavior and play but would like to be the only dog in the household. He would not be a good fit for a house with young children as he is so large and bouncy, he may accidently knock the little ones over!Do you think you could be Oso's person? Story
Meet Jaxson! This sweet guy has been through a lot in the last few months, and is finally ready to have a fresh start! Jaxson came to us after he was unfortunately struck by a car, leaving him needing a serious surgery to his badly broken elbow. Since then, Jaxson has been doing wonderful on his recovery process, and is healing up really well! He has still got to keep it easy and work on his rehabilitation process, but with the right home he is sure to continue to recover wonderfully and will have a great future ahead of him! He would do great with Physio, or a home who is experienced in a similar recovery process.Jaxson is very sweet, and full of LOTS of energy! He gets SOOO excited to see his people, he just cant wait to come up to you and give you all of his attention and affection! He often just flops right onto his back and is eager for those world famous belly rubs! Once he has a routine, and gets to know his people well, he is happy to just walk along side you in the yard and has a wonderful calmer energy! He just needs a little time to get his crazies out and then he is happy as can be!Jaxson is very very eager to go on walkies, and needs some guidance on his leash walking as he can pull quite hard to get to the new exciting place. He does great with a harness and positive reinforcement, and will happily take snacks as rewards for walking nicely! This fella is SO food motivated we often joke he is like a mini vacuum! This makes training super easy and fun as there isn't anything he wont do for a cookie! Hes also an expert puzzle solver and would love a home that can offer him lots of different mental enrichment games and activities.Put in an application below if Jaxson sounds like the fit for you! Story
"It's nice having a bear about the house."Paddington is an extra-large bear looking for a home to call his own! Paddington is a happy-go-lucky, gentle giant who is working on his figure! He is an ESPECIALLY strong dog and has very limited recall and leash-walking skills (he pulls VERY hard). He requires a strong owner who is able to handle his large, bear-like figure on walks. Paddington lived around other animals in his previous home but can be reactive to other dogs and would likely do best as the only dog in the home. Paddington has moderate energy and lived most of his previous life outdoors. He beats to his own drum and likes to sniff anywhere and everywhere. He is still working on "marking" behaviours as he has just been neutered and would benefit from a belly-band during this transition. Paddington came to us with a bit of a hot-spot on his tail, a mild skin infection, a small mass on his left hip, and a broken canine tooth. Paddington is currently recovery from a dental surgery. While the veterinarian isn't concerned about his tail or hip mass, it is something his future family should monitor and be aware of as he enters his senior years (he is estimated to be between 4-8 years old). Paddington loves human interaction. He is very sweet and food-motivated. He adores his cozy beds and would love a peaceful home and lots of new smells - where he can ease into retirement. Story
Dashing Diego is on his journey for a fur-ever family to shower him with years of happiness, safety, love and kindness. The world can be scary for this tiny guy, but he is working everyday on getting braver and more confident. Diego is anxious with change and is only recently working on finding the kitchen floor in his foster home not too slippery. After a few minutes of acclimating to new people, he is very happy with visitors and being told just how cute he is! Diego's favourite place to be is snuggled up inside a nice cozy sweater of his hoooman family while they relax on the couch for a movie night. He is crate trained and is good at using pee pads on the outside of his crate. Big dogs can be very scary to Diego - even the fake ones on the TV, but it would be nice for him to have another doggo sibling who he can learn from, build his confidence, and have a playmate for life. Do you have the time and love to give to Diego and teach him all the cool things there are to life? Please apply today - NOTE we will have an influx of applications. They are not viewable in shelter and we will go through applications as quickly as we can. We will only be reaching out to those who have been approved. Their homes will need to be LOCAL to the island so they can be promptly returned their neutering surgery in December. Thank you ♥ Primary Color: Brown Brindle Weight: 0.795 Age: 0yrs 0mths 10wks
