Story
Meet Buddy! After being startled by fireworks, this young Husky was overcome with fear and fled, tragically colliding with a car. The terrifying incident left the 9-month-old pup with a severely injured leg.X-rays revealed that Buddy suffered a painful broken femur and would need urgent surgical intervention. His medical team rushed him into surgery to carefully repaired the leg using plating and screws. Now begins Buddy's journey toward recovery which will be quite a challenge for an energetic youngster like him!Buddy has been healing up beautifully, and is now ready to continue his recovery with his forever family. He is sooo happy and loving, all he wants is attention and pets! Buddy LOVES his people, so much so that he just wants to jump up and hug you, and can get very mouthy and will need guidance and training on this. He wants you to give him all of your attention, so we are continuously working with him on keeping all four on the floor and redirecting the mouthing behavior with positive reinforcement.Buddy would do best with a experienced guardian to help guide him along on his journey! Due to some of the behaviors Buddy is working through, a home without children for him to accidently knock over or mouth would be best. Buddy also is very fearful of loud sounds, and as his reason for being in care, will bolt when he's frightened. A home with a quiet neighborhood and environment would be ideal for him.He is a very goofy and sweet boy who will thrive in the right home, he is so loyal and loving, he will be a great companion. He is soooo eager to learn, but just needs a little help learning how to regulate his excitement and frustration. He loves his cookies, and will be a dream to train with positive reinforcement! Buddy is seeking a home that's caring, understanding and gentle. If he sounds like the fit for you, put in an application below! Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Black Weight: 31.9 Age: 0yrs 10mths 0wks

Story
Say hello to Homer! This adorable XL boy is such a fun, goofy and loving puppy! His long goofy legs are just adorable, and watching him run makes us all giggle with joy as they flap around and kick up in the air!Homer seems to enjoy spending lots of time outside, and will happily lay out in the sun for a snooze, stretching his long legs out as far as they can go! He is so long and lanky, he even seems to get growing pains after a lot of activity and likes to spend some of his afternoon all stretched out and making you dote on him. He will slowly get up to come greet you, never saying no to some pats! He LOVES his stuffies and rope toys, and enjoys a nice gave of tug and catch! The squeaky toys seem extra fun to him, and he loves to toss them around! Homer is very very tidy and has clean rooms overnight and day! He eats really wonderfully, and enjoys his cookies and food oriented toys. He seems to walk well on a lead, and doesn't pull too much unless he sees something really fun he wants to greet! While Homer does seem to enjoy seeing other well matched canines, he has a history of being fearful of others in a home environment, and needs a home where he can be on his own for his own comfort. He should go to a home who is knowledgeable in his breed, and is able to provide Positive Reinforcement guidance on his training journey as its the key to success!Like most pups, Homer is still a little mouthy and does jump up to say hello. He is working through directing his behavior in a more positive manner elsewhere, and will thrive under the right guidance. He really is a sweet boy just looking for love! Put in an application below if Homer sounds like the fit for you! Primary Color: Blonde Secondary Color: Black Weight: 45 Age: 0yrs 8mths 2wks

Story
Introducing Oso: A Gentle Giant in Need of Love and Patience!Oso is a very handsome and endearing young fella, with a heart that's ready to open up to a world of love and care. Oso has had a challenging start to life, as he spent the first 3.5 years of his life on a chain during the day and only to be brought in at night. This experience has left him a bit wary of new people and unfamiliar situations, but with the right understanding and patient guidance, Oso has the potential to flourish into a devoted and affectionate companion. One of Oso's most endearing qualities is his oversized goofiness and boundless excitement! He loves to throw his paws up in the air, flopping around and doing the most hilarious "drive by" run while he makes the funniest sounds!Oso's ideal home would feature a secure backyard where he can stretch his legs, play, and bask in the joy of being free to move around as he is so used to having space and outdoor time. Oso can be quite reactive to other dogs and will need some guidance on this in his future, and will thrive under positive reinforcement training and handling. He should be introduced slowly to dogs and rewarded for relaxed behavior and play but would like to be the only dog in the household. He would not be a good fit for a house with young children as he is so large and bouncy, he may accidently knock the little ones over!Do you think you could be Oso's person? Put in an application today!https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-comox/ Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: Black Weight: 49.8 Age: 3yrs 1mths 3wks

Story
Lucio is very eager to meet his new family! This handsome boy has been a frequent flyer here at the Alberni SPCA, and unfortunately his previous owner had to make the decision that they could no longer properly care for him. This last time Lucio arrived in our care he had really irritated skin due to a severe flea allergy. His flea allergy is under control with proper flea treatment.Lucio is a very happy boy and loves everybody he meets. This doesn't quite seem to be the same with other dogs. Lucio can be reactive to other dogs through fences, this may be a barrier issue, but he will need slow leash introductions to any future doggy friends. Recently he has gone for a walk with our long term resident dog Bea, and he did great walking next to her.We are unsure how he is with cats, and we believe he would do well in a home with older children, as he is such a typical happy wiggly lab.If you are interested in Lucio, the first step to adoption is filling out the adoption application.
