He wants to be included in everyday life and feel like a cherished member of the family. Kennels and crates aren’t his favorite, so a home that can offer him companionship and help him settle in with patience would be a wonderful fit.Currently, most likely due to kenneling, Max can be reactive around other dogs, so he’ll need thoughtful management and space from canine triggers until he decompresses. His initial behavior assessment showed he was calm and relaxed around other dog. We suggest introductions always be thoughtful and managed for comfort of all. Max may also pull on leash and could benefit from building his leash skills and learning basic obedience.We hope to find Max the person who sees what a loving companion he can be and is ready to help him feel safe, included, and at home. Meet Dom, an 8-year-old, approximately 65-pound sweetheart looking for a home of his own. Please call us at 831-769-8850 to request a meeting Dom came to our shelter on May 5, 2026, after his owner passed away and no friends or family were able to take him in. He spent well over a month in our care while receiving treatment for skin issues before he was ready for adoption. Shelter life was difficult for him, and he wasn’t doing well. Then Dom got the chance he needed: a foster home. He’s been with his foster for a couple of months now and is thriving. With good care and proper nutrition, his skin has cleared up. He’s settling into home life and showing us the sweet, easygoing dog he is and has always been. His foster describes Dom as a “go with the flow” kind of guy at home. He settles quickly and naps peacefully while his person is at work, but he’s always ready to join them for a walk or an adventure. Dom is house-trained, eager to please, and quick to learn. He knows “sit” and “paw” and is working on “stay” and “down.” He isn’t crate-trained, but he has free range of the home without accidents or destructive behavior.Dom loves toys and likes to collect them in a pile. When it’s time to relax, he’s happiest tucked under a blanket. He’s adorable and entertaining, and his foster shares new clips of him almost daily on Instagram at @luluslegacyfosters.Outside the home, Dom can become overwhelmed and excited around other animals, so introductions and a thoughtful match are important. He does best with friendly dogs around his size and isn’t a match for small dogs or cats. He walks nicely on leash.After losing his person and spending so long waiting for his chance, Dom is finally getting to experience the comforts of home. We’d love to see him find an adopter who appreciates his companionship, will continue helping him learn, and won’t mind sharing space with a toy collection—and maybe a blanket burrito or two.Thanks to donations made to Friends of Hitchcock Road Animal Services, Dom’s adoption fee is just $50.
