Story
Meet Vega!A beautiful 6 year old Rottweiler with a giant head, an even bigger heart, and so much love still left to give! Vega came to our shelter after her previous family could no longer keep her in their home. While she previously lived with other dogs, she’s made it clear that at this stage in life, she’d much rather be the star of the show and soak up all the love, attention, and comfy spots in the house for herself. Because of this, Vega is looking for a home where she can be your one and only canine companion — and trust us, she has more than enough affection to fill the space! This sweet girl is BIG… even by Rottweiler standards. When Vega first arrived with us, she was extremely overweight. We’ve been working hard to help her start feeling healthier and more comfortable, and while she’s already made progress, but her weight loss journey will need to continue in her new home with a family committed to helping her stay active, manage her diet thoughtfully, and keep moving toward the happy, healthy, and comfortable life she deserves! Beneath all those extra pounds is a loyal, loving dog who absolutely adores her people.Vega’s favorite thing in the world is spending time with humans. She’s affectionate, devoted, and gives the impression that once she chooses her people, she’ll love them with her whole heart. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be nearby - keeping you company, accepting pets, and reminding you daily that large dogs often have the softest and kindest souls.Miss Vega is looking for a fresh start and a family who will love her for exactly who she is. If you’ve been searching for a loyal companion, a steadfast best friend, and a giant sweetheart who’s ready to be someone’s whole world, Vega may be waiting for you. All she asks is to be your only pup, and in return she’ll give you every ounce of love she has to share!

Story
Richard is here and ready to party! This energetic Australian Cattle Dog mix came to our shelter as a stray who was never claimed by his owner. While we don`t know much about where Richard came from, or what his life was like before he arrived at our shelter, we do know that he is ready for a fresh start with a new owner that is going to love him like part of the family! We think that Richard is around 2 years old, and he is looking for a home where he can get lots of exercise, enrichment, and continue learning how to be a good boy. This goofball is boisterous and is still prone to puppy antics - we don`t think he got a lot of attention, or had anyone commit to training with him in his previous life, so Richard is starting at the beginning and working on learning manners and basic obedience. We think Richard is going to be the most successful with an experienced dog owner, someone who understands that good things take time, patience, and a little bit of effort to be great. Richard is eager to please, and has all the makings of a great companion dog, he just needs someone to commit to helping him learn and grow. Underneath it all, Richard is a sensitive soul who just wants someone to believe in him and give him all the love he has been missing. At this time, we think Richard would do best in a home without small children, until his manners are more polished; he can be excitable and is still learning not to jump up on people. Richard will also need a home without cats or other small animals (they seem like way too much fun to chase.) As far as other dogs go, Richard has some complicated feelings. He really, really, really wants to meet and play with other dogs, but he can also be... a bit much for other pooches. He comes on very strong and doesn`t really understand the finesse of a proper and polite greeting. Richard is still working through the frustration of not being able to charge right up and say (a slightly rude) hello when he sees other dogs. He can also be a bit nervous around other dogs that immediately match his intense `go get `em` attitude. Long story short, we would call Richard `Dog Selective.` For right now, we think Richard may be the most successful as the only dog in his home until he learns how to engage and interact with other dogs a little more calmly. We are working with him here at the shelter, so stay tuned for updates as he progesses! We know that Richard may not be the best fit for ev

Story
Meet Nikki!Nikki is a stunning 2 year old Border Collie mix with a bright mind, an athletic build, and a whole lot of untapped potential. She was originally adopted from us as a young, sweet, and ready-for-anything puppy, but unfortunately didn’t get the guidance, socialization, or confidence-building she deserved in her previous home. Now that she is back with us, Nikki is getting a well-earned second chance—and this time, we’re determined to find her the kind of home and family that truly shows up for her!Like many herding breeds/mixes, Nikki is full of energy and always ready to move! She’s tall, lean, and lightning-fast making her the perfect companion for someone who loves outdoor adventures, games of fetch, and staying active! Give her a ball and some space to run, and you’ll see her absolutely light up with joy!Nikki is also incredibly smart—seriously, this girl is a quick study! She is eager and loves to learn. Nikki thrives when given structure and attention, making training not only easy but genuinely fun. She’s the kind of dog who will form a deep connection and bond with her person through shared activities and positive reinforcement (and maybe tasty treats.)When it comes to other dogs, Nikki is still figuring things out. She can be a bit unsure and vocal, likely due to missing out on proper early socialization. Our team is working with her to build those skills, but for now, she may do best as the only dog in the home—or with an experienced, dog-savvy adopter who’s willing to continue her training journey and help her gain confidence with other at her own pace. The good news? Nikki absolutely loves people. She’s friendly, eager to connect, and quick to make human friends. With the right person by her side, she’s going to blossom into an incredible, loyal companion!Nikki isn’t looking for perfect—she’s looking for committed. Someone who understands that great dogs don’t just happen, they’re built through patience, consistency, and love. If you’re ready to put in the time, Nikki is more than ready to give you her whole heart in return. Come meet Nikki and see just how special she is—you might just be the fresh start she’s been waiting for!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Rosella! She is a 13-year-old pitbull Bostan terrier mix weighing 47lbs. Rosella came to us in June of ‘25 as an owner surrender from a homeless veteran. This old gal doesn’t act a day over 2 years old. She runs, wrestles, plays with toys, chews bones, and still enjoys light to moderate exercise with our volunteers and her foster dad! Seriously, if you come and meet her you will not believe us that she is 13 years old, but she really is. Her foster dad reports that she is extremely snuggly and affectionate, giving kisses and cuddling up in bed! Rosella enjoys play bowing endlessly at every boy dog she meets, easy going strolls along a riverbank, and baking award winning pies. Her strawberry rhubarb pie with a lattice crust won the blue ribbon 6 years in a row at the Iowa state fair. If you have a thing for older dogs, but love the energy of middle-aged dog, call us and ask about Rosella and we will get you in touch with her foster!
