She is a great dog. She doesn’t really like other dogs. I can take her for walks without a leash.She has a collar that has vibration, sound, and shock. I have never had to use anything but the vibration. She walks on the side of the road with me. She will sit and she will go lay down when you tell her to. She likes her toys. When it’s feeding time if she wants food, she will talk to me.

Story

Meet Chong! The vet estimates Chong is about three years old. He came to us as an owner-surrender because his previous family had too many Chihuahuas. While he was initially shy when he arrived a couple of months ago, our volunteers have worked with him daily and he has made incredible progress. He is still shy with new people at first, but he warms up once he trusts you mean him no harm. Chong will need a family that is patient with him as he gets more comfortable with them. Chong recently returned to the shelter after spending a couple of weeks with a foster family while recovering from his neuter surgery. Here is what his foster mom shared about him: "Chong loves to cuddle and nuzzle up to me while sitting on the couch watching a movie. He would love to sleep on the bed next to you. He's pretty much a couch potato unless he's following me around while I'm doing chores. Every now and again he likes to grab a soft small toy and run around the yard—but definitely not the ones that squeak, because the noise scares him. Because I was watchful of him and paid attention to his queues, he only had one accident inside the house on his first day in my home. After that he never had an accident in the house." Chong does well with other dogs and does not mind the office cat. Please note that Chong is sensitive to cigarette smoke and gets terrified around people who smoke. To ensure his well-being, we require a strictly smoke-free home for his adoption. Chong has come a long way and will be ready for his new forever home soon! If you are interested in learning more or setting up a time to meet him, please let us know. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. If the dog is not old enough, you will be given a voucher for Animal Medical Center in Emmett to cover the cost of the spay or neuter and a one year rabies vaccine. Spend just a little time with him, and you’ll quickly see why he’s such a favorite around here.Copper came to us from another rescue after having a tough start in life. He was found abandoned and underweight at a local lake, and while his early days weren’t easy, Copper has shown incredible resilience. With time, patience, and training, he’s blossomed into a bright, playful dog who is ready to find his forever person.Copper is full of energy and curiosity—he loves to run, explore, and make every day an adventure. At our farm location, where he’s been working one-on-one with staff, he’s been learning important life skills like how to relax, how to channel his excitement, and how to be the best companion he can be. He’s come such a long way and is now more than ready to keep learning and growing with his new family.We think Copper will thrive in a home with adults (and maybe dog-savvy teens) who can match his zest for life. He’s done well with other medium-to-large dogs, but because of his prey drive, a home without small animals is best. We have another graduate of our Education Project for Inmates & Canines. Let us introduce you to Sam, whose EPIC handlers did him a favor by writing a bio on his behalf."Hello, my name is Sam. I am an almost 5 year old mixed breed pup. I enjoy tug, chase, lick mats, and seek. I am comfortable around other dogs after being around them before meeting. I am nervous and timid around new people being introduced but am friendly after the first greeting. I love my handler/family. I know sit, down, stay, touch, chin, spin/turn, and other basic cues. I don't really like loud noises, a lot of people, being alone, and fetch (but I'm still trying!). I definitely DO like playing (tug, seek, and chase are my favorites). Plus, I like working for treats, walking, sniffing, cuddling, old people, kids, and grooming."Sam is a sweet and loving dog who has really opened up in our program, thanks to the hard work of his EPIC tea. He's now acting so much more relaxed and playful due to our confidence-building protocols and many hours of skilled behavior work by his beloved friends.
