Story
Rustyn was adopted from a foster home in November of 2020. He was a home with many big dogs and did just great, although he was very timid. He was brought to a shelter earlier that year when a hoarding situation was discovered. He came to live with my chihuahuas and since, I have discovered he is not of the right temperament to be with smaller dogs. He is approximately 9 lbs., so he is small too. He does have some minor resource guarding tendencies. Primarily, he can have jealousy over his selected human, but it is not consistent with his tell-offs or when he is triggered. He would do great as an only dog with someone that can let him explore the yard or take him on adventurous walks. He is a big cuddler who loves to sleep under the covers in his human's bed. Everyone that has met him thinks he is just wonderful! He has done well with teenagers, adults and seniors. I have not seen him around younger children or cats. He is a terrier, so he can become focused, but he is not barky.

Story
Valentina may be small, but her story is nothing short of mighty. This sweet pup came to us in urgent need of life-saving surgery for a congenital heart condition called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Thanks to the incredible care of our medical team and her resilience, the surgery was a success—and now she’s thriving in her medical foster home, finally able to be the joyful, adventurous puppy she was meant to be!Valentina is now accepting adoption applications, and yes—we will be picky. This girl has been through a lot, and she deserves a future full of love, security, and respect for the journey she’s been on.She’s cat-savvy and LOVES dogs of all sizes and ages. She has been raised around chickens, goats, and horses and is respectful of all. She’s a social butterfly with a gentle heart: Valentina is a Velcro pup — she bonds deeply and sticks close to her chosen person. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share your days (and your lap!) she’s your girl. Valentina is also smart and polite; she knows how to sit sweetly for treats and is both puppy-pad trained and crate trained—a rare combo of brains and manners! Whether it’s a walk around the block, a road trip, or a couch cuddle-fest, Valentina is always ready for any of life’s adventures. Now that her heart has been mended, she’s ready to live her life to the fullest—and she’s looking for someone who will make sure she never wastes another moment. If you’re ready to open your heart to a dog who’s already proven how strong hers is, Valentina is prepared to make you fall head over heels in love with her!

Story
Leeloo is soon to be `paw-roled` from our Paws in the Pen program in partnership with the New Mexico Corrections Department! Each dog is paired with two inmate trainers and enrolled in an 8-week training program that is designed to equip the dog with a nice foundation of training that will help them succeed in their new home. Each of these dogs will go home potty and crate trained with a whole list of cues and basic behaviors; to ensure a successful adoption, we are providing four training sessions to adopters, so you can learn what your dog knows, and an invitation to weekly discounted drop-in classes. These dogs also go home with a biothane leash and collar, 6 months of heartworm prevention, are fully up-to-date on all vaccines and medications, and are spayed and neutered. This petite princess is a major love bug! Leeloo thinks she`s a lap dog, and enjoys climbing in for cuddles. Her prison trainer says there are no limits to what she can learn, she is very smart and eager to please. She will go home with an impressive list of extra cues and tricks, not normally included in our regular curriculum. She loves playing with toys, and though it can take her a bit to acclimate to a new dog-dog relationship, she really enjoys playing with other dogs, tug is her favorite. Leeloo`s ideal forever home will let her take her time decompressing, with slow introductions, and lots of grand adventures with her humans. This gal would love a big bed, some plush toys, lots of treats, and endless pets as she settles in.
