Story
****Please read below of our amazing Floyd. Floyd was found wandering our parking lot with a leash and a harness on back in August 2023!! No microchipped at that time and no owners ever came for him. He is very energetic, does good with other dogs when slowly introduced and does ok with cats. He does bark at new people and dogs but he is a goofball and is sweet once he gets to know you. He has grown so much and is such a smart boy! Daniele Ruley our Dog trainer has been working with him on his leash manners and teaching this young man some tricks as well. Floyd is very energetic, but he's still a puppy. We guess around 7 months old. We believe Flody to be a Pit-bull type dog possibly mixed with Jack Russell. Feel free to call us at (505)662-8179 for any questions about Floyd, or you can stop by any day except for Wednesday between 11am- 5pm to meet with him. Floyd is located at the Los Alamos Animal Shelter, address 226 East Road Los Alamos, NM 87544

Story
Meet this lovely sweet girl named Iris. Iris is an approximately 5- year old, medium sized Shepherd Mix (best guess). She is friendly with people and has moderate to high energy. Iris exhibits leash reactivity / aggression towards other dogs and would beneift from further leash training and controlled socialization. Iris would also benefit from further basic obedience and engagement trainint with her new person/ famile. Iris needs to go to an only dog home unless adopted by a very experienced owner. -Daniele Ruley !Trainer! (The pawsitive K9 ph#:209-701-3647) Daniele Rueley is willing to donate One (1) Free 60 minute training session to Iris' furture adopter. If you are interested in Iris please call us at (505)662-8179 or stop on by at the Los Alamos Animal Shelter located at 226 East Road Los Alamos, NM 87544 to meet her.

Rat Terrier

Male, Adult
Espanola, NM
Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Not good with dogs, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Rustyn was adopted from a foster home in November of 2020. He was a home with many big dogs and did just great, although he was very timid. He was brought to a shelter earlier that year when a hoarding situation was discovered. He came to live with my chihuahuas and since, I have discovered he is not of the right temperament to be with smaller dogs. He is approximately 9 lbs., so he is small too. He does have some minor resource guarding tendencies. Primarily, he can have jealousy over his selected human, but it is not consistent with his tell-offs or when he is triggered. He would do great as an only dog with someone that can let him explore the yard or take him on adventurous walks. He is a big cuddler who loves to sleep under the covers in his human's bed. Everyone that has met him thinks he is just wonderful! He has done well with teenagers, adults and seniors. I have not seen him around younger children or cats. He is a terrier, so he can become focused, but he is not barky.

Story
FOLIE is affectionate and has a terrific personality, easy going and she's beautiful. She's had a special job here in foster care - she has been the 'ears' for a young deaf dog :-) Folie gets daily playdates with other dogs of various sizes and ages and she's good with cats too. She has longer/fur around the neck area which makes her extra huggable :-) Sweet girl ! Important:Do you live in our adopting area? (Santa Fe, Abq, Rio Rancho, Los Alamos general areas). Do you have another young playful friendly dog or possibly be interested in adopting her with her deaf friend Daisy? Her adoption fee includes spaying, vaccine series, deworming, rabies, and microchip. Folie was born April 20, 2020. Please read all info below. We're sorry to have to state this, but we've been bombarded with people asking us the very things we already state and just don't have the manpower to answer everyone. -- if you email us or fill out an application that does not fit the parameters of our procedures listed below we will not be replying to you. Thank you for your understanding! We have specific adoption and Covid rules listed below!Revised adoption policyDue to Covid -19 pandemic and social distancing requirements, we've revised our adoption policy. First, please email (desertpawsnm@gmail.com) to inquire before you fill out the online application. (Please do not call or text). We are unable to do multi-dog/cat meetgreets or adoption events at this time or bring multiple animals to your house to choose from, so please only inquire if you're serious about adopting this particular animal(s). If you're just shopping around with several shelters and rescues, please let us know this. If your application is approved (which 'could' take up to one week) then we will contact you to set up a Zoom chat or ph call to answer questions/clarify anything and set up a day/time to bring the pet to you. Since we can't come into the home/yard due to Covid-19, we ask that you to send us pics /video of your home/yard/living area/current pets. We will discuss with you about meeting your other pets. At the meeting/adoption at your house (outside) please wear a mask (as will we) and have hand sanitizer. We adopt locally to Central Abq, Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Rio Rancho. No out of area adoptions inquiries please. No young children for our adoptions please. Our animals are fostered and our foster families like to know their fosters are happy, healthy, and cared for during their lifetime - we appreciate staying in touch periodically through the years (a holiday card, social media, pics, videos, whatever works for you :-) Happy Tails! Thanks very much!  May 15, 2024, 6:52 pm
