We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Meet Tommy – The Gentle Giant with the Million-Dollar Smile Tommy is a 3-year-old, 75-pound German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his grin. He was rescued from an overcrowded Houston shelter and came to us extremely shy, fearful, and unsure of the world- likely the result of a very troubled past. For months, he needed very patient, gentle fosters to help him feel safe. Because he was given that time, love, and consistency, Tommy has blossomed into the sweetest, calmest, most loyal companion. But it’s important for future adopters to know: Tommy absolutely requires a slow warm-up. He needs people who understand that trust for him is built quietly, steadily, and on his timeline. Once he lets you in, though… it’s magic. In his foster home, Tommy quickly found comfort in his kennel, learned to use the doggy door, and chose an elevated bed as his favorite spot. He’s a slow-paced, easygoing guy who loves lounging on the porch, stretching in the sunshine, and - his signature move - lifting his face to sniff the breeze with a big, content smile. Tommy will likely thrive best in a home with another confident, friendly dog. He adores following another dog’s lead, which helps him feel braver and more secure during new experiences. As his foster family, we LOVE Tommy deeply. We are committed to being an ongoing resource for his success. If, for any reason, the adoption isn’t the right fit, please reach out - we will gladly take Tommy back and continue fostering him to ensure he finds the most perfect home. If you’re looking for a calm, gentle soul who will be your quiet shadow, your breeze-sniffing porch buddy, and your loyal friend once he trusts you, Tommy may be the perfect match you’ve been waiting for. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? Meet Mila ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Mila is a spayed 3 year old female Pitbull/Staffie mix, currently weighing around 40lbs. She is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Mila plays well with all dog sizes! She really enjoys playtime with the larger pups as they can keep up with her energy. She does well when meeting other dogs, but her foster notes she has a tendency to jump on her canine buddies, and some dogs may not like this. This cutie LOVES food and treats, scarfing down her own before checking to see what her foster siblings have in their bowls. She's not shown any aggression but we recommend feeding her separately just to ensure continued household harmony. Mila is smart, young and very teachable, quickly picking up on new lessons! She enjoys exploring and is super curious. Mila has not been crate trained as there is always someone home and she has access to a doggy door to come and go as she pleases. She has proven herself trustworthy to be left alone unsupervised as long as no food has been left out and the trash cans are empty. For this reason, Mila may do best in a home where someone is home more than they're away. Mila has been around her foster's young to older grandkids (1y, 10y, and preteens) and done well, not showing much interest in them. While Mila would probably be okay with kids of all ages, we generally recommend homes with children who are over the age of 10yrs, or those who are dog savvy. We do not have any history with cats. She is very people oriented and follows her Foster Mom around everywhere. She does not seem to have ever met a stranger, and gets super excited to say hello to new friends! She is affectionate and very cuddly, lying down nearby and asking for pets and kisses. Mila's ideal home would be with a moderately to very active family who has no/older kids, at least one other dog, and who wants a running partner or outdoors companion. She's still young and needs some training, but she is a very sweet girl who craves love and attention, and strives to please with lots of reassurance. If her Furever Family is patient and understanding, giving her ample time to adjust, she will be the very best girl and love you forever! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Florence (Flora), 3 years old, spayed female, Carolina Dog mix, 46 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Florence, affectionately nicknamed, Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic dog who loves to wrestle and be chased. She would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level. When playing, Flora could play for hours. She loves to interact with another dog in the home, Furman by licking his face. Flora has experience playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, exhibiting behaviors like raised hair, whimpering and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this behavior. It did take her some time to befriend the resident pup, and Flora may do best as the one and only in the home. Flora’s compatibility with cats is unknown. She adores the 8-year-old child in the home, but is nervous of new children. Flora does have stranger danger when new people come into the home, and tends to bark at them, especially when they move around quickly. Because of her fear, she may prefer an adult household at this time. As mentioned, Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, often pulling a lot. However, she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments with less activity. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora is fully housebroken. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home. When her foster parents have gone out of town she has gone to boarding where she is crated with no issues. At home, she is able to be out of a crate and unsupervised with zero issues. She is fed separately from the other dogs in the home. Otherwise, she shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, although she needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtimes to do well inside the home. She thrives in a moderately active home with regular outdoor play sessions. She loves playing with the resident dog, bucking around the yard, eating, going for walks, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling. She does well in the car but is terrified of storms, often seeking shelter in a closet or burying her head in a lap. Flora’s ideal home would be with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. Flora needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but will reward you with love and companionship for years to come! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Chip, 2-year-old, neutered male, Pit bull mix, 60 lbs. Chip is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS, and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! As sweet as a chocolate chip cookie, our lovely boy Chip is searching for his forever home! Chip is a playful, curious, and loving dog looking for an experienced adopter who can provide patience, safety, and endless love. Chip is a certified lover boy who loves to cuddle and be around his people! He’s a Velcro dog and will be your shadow everywhere you go. When he first meets new people, Chip can be a bit cautious, but once he trusts you, he’ll be your best friend forever! Chip adores his people, loves to go on sniffing walks (and does well on the leash), is crate-trained and potty-trained, and loves to be outdoors! He is also the king of costumes; he can rock any outfit and does so frequently. Chip has done well with his foster dog siblings, who are calm and enjoy his play style. Chip LOVES to play, and he plays his heart out, so we highly recommend using slow introductions to other dogs and think he would do best with more calm/submissive doggy siblings that would be happy to engage with him in his play. He would also do well as an only dog in the house if he could go on outings every so often. Chip does ask that he not live with any cats, please. Chip’s ideal humans would enjoy having him be their right-hand man, and would understand that when he’s left home alone, he can be anxious without his family. However, he has been working on his separation anxiety and can be crated when left home alone. Chip would thrive with a family that can keep up with his training, and he would love to work with you! Chip would also happily accompany you on your outings- he is thrilled to go on car rides, go on walks out and about, and see the world with his people! At home, once he has finished the initial decompression period, Chip will go full puppy mode and play with all the toys. He has also done well around older children! If you’re ready to get this happy-go-lucky, handsome man to be your forever best friend, please apply below! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
