Story
Lola and her sister came into a Louisiana shelter with their puppies. All the puppies got adopted, but the two mom's weren't as lucky; Lola got saved just in time before her deadline by a good samaritan, but no after she was repeatedly abused by a shelter worker. From that horrific experience she kept a scar above her eye as well as some emotional scars which made her to be distrusting of humans and turn her into a fear snapper. Lola has come a long way, not only in physical distance when traveling from Louisiana to our Rescue in Central NY. Here she's been learning to trust again by meeting only friendly people who give her the space she needs by leaving her be until she gets to know them. She's made many friends and that includes many farm animals. Lola loves other dogs and has learnt to be respectful of cats, chickens, ducks, goats and horses as well as donkeys. Lola is a little love bug and goof ball. She has the most kissable smooch face and really just wants to be loved and give love. Lola is medium energy and enjoys hikes and walks and running through the fields sniffing. Lola needs an experienced pack leader who she can entrust, who she will look up to for guidance when she meets people or when people are coming over. In unfamiliar setting Lola can still be very insecure and timid but that just takes practice of which she doesn't get much at the Ranch. She does love car rides though.

Story
Chinook is an absolute sweetheart! He turned a year old on 02 January and he still has a lot of puppy energy. He is very tall and lean and the 60lbs are an estimated weight. His coat is rather short. When you look at him from the side or behind he seems like a very slim Shepherd, when you look in his face you clearly see the Husky. With both those breeds in his blood Chinook is medium-high energy and does need an outlet like hiking, running, lots of walks and playtime. Chinook is sweet sweet boy who truly has a very loving and gentle heart and soul. He LOVES to be loved, he will melt into you when you pay him attention. Of course he has puppy energy at only a year old and no training, but he is very eager to please and to learn. He loves having dog brothers and sisters to teach him. He's learning about chickens and that they are not toys, and to be respectful and careful around horses. He's great around cats, having lived with them in the Bethlehem Shelter, even if sometimes he might need a reminder to play gentle with them, but a simple "hey!" will do. For training purposes Chinook sleeps in his crate and will spend some time in it during the day (he needs to learn that there is no playing inside the house here, the dogs spend a LOT of time outside at the Rescue Ranch and get to drain their energy there, but once inside the house playtime is over, at least the crazy kind). Chinook has an interesting story: at a young puppy he was rescued from Gaza (yep, the one in Palestine) and taken to Bethlehem Shelter where he lived until he was flown to Canada. His first foster home in Canada for one reason or another didn't like him and passed him on (we have no details on that first home); the second foster home was a windowless basement apartment where he was locked up all day without walks. Apparently he became mouthy (with all that pent up energy and the family finally home, hurray) and they were going to euthanize him! So Bethlehem Shelter reached out to their European volunteers, one of which is a former work colleague of mine who reached out to me; transport arrangements were made and Chinook came to The Sweet Life on his birthday. I truly do not understand how anyone would even remotely think about euthanizing this adorable boy who is just a darling and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Dogs are living creatures and need exercise as much or even more than love and affection.

Story
Caramel is an incredibly sweet senior who found himself at NYC ACC as a stray. At the shelter he quickly became a staff favorite and lived there as an office dog before coming into our rescue and going to foster care in Queens. He might be 11 years old but he still loves to play ball and go on walks, meeting people and other dogs. Caramel is good with dogs and cats and really loves humans and snuggles. He does have some arthritis and but he won't let that stop him; he just needs to take supplements and NSAIDS for it. He had a dental cleaning with 2 extractions at the end of February and is now ready to show off a great smile with good breath for lots of kisses for his new furever family. Story
Scrappy is another NYC ACC alumni, a gentle little soul with a heart of gold. He bonds quickly and tightly with a quiet, loving leader. Scrappy is a sable-colored, neutered, 13lbs Chihuahua and approximately 11 years young. He is housebroken and walks very well on a  leash. Scrappy has a heart murmur and horrific breath and is awaiting his dental appointment in January to be ready for lots of kisses with his new family. He is both cat and dog friendly, very well mannered  and rides nicely in a car. He is not your typical yappy little dog by any means, and is actually quite quiet in the house, without any destructive behaviors. Scrappy likes people but as he can be a little shy, introductions should be slow and at Scrappy's own pace. He sometimes can still be a little nervous but in only two weeks has gotten pretty comfortable in his foster home. He's a very happy, faithful and loyal little dog who wants nothing more than a loving forever home. Scrappy is being fostered in Freehold, NJMay 1, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
I found Ella and Enzo homeless in Alabama as I was driving in March 2021 from Florida to the ranch in Morris. They had been living on the street for a while and no one cared, so they got a quick ticket to New York and haven't looked back for a second. Both were heartworm positive and intact and so malnourished that I didn't realize Ella was pregnant until 2 weeks before giving birth to 7 adorable puppies. Ella seems to be Enzo's mom and the two are extremely bonded. They are the absolute sweetest dogs ever and have yet to meet a stranger. Because of their story they will only be adopted to a perfect home were they get to go on regular hikes and spend as much time with their parents as they do here with me. May 1, 2024, 12:13 am
