Story
Prince is a 10-year-old German Shepherd mix with the softest eyes, a gentle soul, and so much love still to give. Like many senior dogs who have experienced big changes in their lives, Prince needed time to understand that he was safe in foster care. Once he begins to trust, though, he forms incredibly strong bonds and becomes a loyal companion who simply wants to be near his people. He loves swimming, enjoys leisurely walks, and still has plenty of life and personality left in him. Prince is housetrained, knows several commands including "sit," "stay," "down," "come," and "leave it," and is wonderful on walks. Cars, bikes, skateboards, and other everyday distractions don't bother him at all. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats and enjoys the company of calm, respectful adults only. As he has settled into foster care, he has made tremendous progress and has become a sweet, affectionate boy who loves sleeping beside his people and being part of the family. Prince is the kind of dog who needs relationships to develop at his pace. New situations and unfamiliar people can make him feel unsure, and when he first arrived, he needed space and patience to adjust. He is a dog who values his boundaries and prefers not to be restrained or rushed into interactions. Once trust is built, he becomes much more relaxed and affectionate. Prince is also a bit of an escape artist and has turned slipping out doors or scaling fences into something of a game, so he must always be securely managed outdoors with a martingale collar and harness attached to separate leashes. Because he can be difficult to catch and may react if grabbed unexpectedly, his future family will need to be mindful and set him up for success with careful management and routine. Prince has also made incredible progress with his house manners. When he first arrived, he marked indoors frequently, but since being neutered and settling into a routine, he has remained fully housetrained in foster care. As with any dog moving to a new environment, there may be an adjustment period and some old habits could briefly resurface, but consistency and patience will help him settle in again. Prince's ideal home is a calm, patient one with experienced dog owners who understand that trust is earned and that some dogs simply need a little extra time and space. Because he can become uncomfortable with restraint and likes to approach relationships on his own terms, he requires an adult-only home. The family lucky enough to earn Prince's trust will discover an incredibly loyal, loving companion who has come such a long way and still has so much happiness left to share in his golden years. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Local adopters can take advantage of 50% off a training course at Ruff Haus in Barrie (www.ruffhaus.ca) and all adopters will also be signed up for Petcademy to offer 30 days of free text-based behavioural support. Story
Pipher is a 5-year-old Toy Poodle mix with a gentle heart and a soft, cuddly nature. She can be shy and fearful when faced with new people or experiences, but underneath her timid exterior is a sweet little dog who simply wants to feel safe and loved. Once she feels comfortable, Pipher's affectionate side shines through and she is happiest being held close or curled up for a cuddle. Pipher gets along well with the resident dogs in her foster home and mostly prefers to quietly coexist with them. She is friendly and playful in her own gentle way and has been making small but meaningful steps in building her confidence. She has recently become comfortable exploring the backyard and continues to show that, with patience and encouragement, she is learning to enjoy new experiences. She also adores being carried around and happily soaks up affection from the children in her foster home. Like many dogs who are still learning that the world is a safe place, Pipher can become nervous and will often shake when experiencing something new, including car rides. She is currently using pee pads and making progress with her housetraining, though she still has occasional accidents as she learns her routine. Pipher can also be a little particular about her meals and prefers wet food and small treats, which suits her just fine after recently having dental work and tooth extractions. Pipher does have a few medical needs that her future family should be aware of. She is being treated for ear infections and mild irritation around her eyes and will need ongoing eye cleaning due to natural tearing. She also has some looseness in her kneecaps, which may need monitoring as she ages, especially if she ever becomes uncomfortable or lame. Recent bloodwork changes were thought to be related to inflammation from her dental disease and can simply be rechecked in the future as recommended by her veterinarian. Pipher's ideal home is a calm, patient one that will move at her pace and celebrate the little victories as she gains confidence. Because of her gentle and sensitive nature, she would do best with older, respectful children who can give her space and let her approach new experiences in her own time. Pipher is looking for a family that understands some dogs need a little extra reassurance while they learn that the world is not so scary. In return, she will reward her people with quiet companionship, endless cuddles, and the sweetest little soul to share their days with. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Let us reintroduce Laz (Adoption Fee WAIVED) Lazarus joined us in February 2025 alongside his littermate, Otis, after being rescued from a neglectful home. Some of their siblings went to Mattie’s Place  —and every one of them has found a home… except for Laz Laz is truly a great dog. Like many dogs who didn’t get the structure and socialization they needed early on, he can be fearful and a bit unsure of new people. He does have some “stranger danger,” but with proper introductions (and a few treats!), he warms up every single time Since being in foster, Laz has been putting in the work! He completed a tricks class at Nordik K9 and attends daycare at KNine Care weekly to continue building his confidence and social skills—and he’s been doing amazing. Laz is looking for a dog-savvy adopter who understands that building trust takes time. In return, you’ll get an incredibly smart, deeply loyal companion. A quieter home would suit him best—something low traffic without lots of people coming and going. He could do well with a calm, neutral dog of similar or larger size, or as your one-and-only. No cats for Laz—he will chase. His adoption fee has been waived  We know Laz will need a committed adopter willing to continue his training and help him keep growing into the dog we know he can be. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Fancy — the Spicy, Smart, Sporty Girl Who’s Ready to Impress  Fancy is a 3-year-old, 55-lb cattle dog mix who has completely blossomed in foster care. After raising her seven puppies like an absolute champ, she’s now stepping into her own — and wow, is she ever shining. This girl is brilliant, energetic, and ridiculously fun. She loves to work, loves to learn, and loves to show off just how clever she is. Fancy has just started bite club and is loving it… future IGP candidate??   She’s the kind of dog who’s always ready for the next adventure and would be up for trying anything you throw her way. Her personality is pure joy: she “talks” to share her feelings, proudly brings you toys (or the occasional rock) as gifts, and absolutely adores other dogs. She’s great with dog friends, good with cats, crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, and has the perfect spicy-sweet balance that makes heelers so special. Fancy is still gaining confidence with people. She warms up to women faster, but with a confident, experienced handler, she thrives with anyone. Because she can be unsure around unpredictable little humans, she’s looking for a home with no small kids, and preferably with another dog to help show her the ropes. Fancy has exceeded every expectation. She’s smart, loyal, goofy, athletic, and incredibly rewarding. If you’re looking for a sport prospect, training partner, or all-around amazing companion… Fancy might just be the one.
