ROUGE

Shepherd (Unknown Type) Husky

Good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROUGE is one of the “Fab Four” we saved from being euthanized at the Pound. The only reason that was going to happen to her was because they needed the space to bring in more unwanted or dumped dogs. She’s spayed, microchipped and vaccinated including rabies. She is a beautiful girl but definitely high energy and looking for an experienced Shepherd owner.  ROUGE has both beauty and brains and a very smart, loving girl who craves attention. Her favourite place to be is right beside you on the couch so she can get snuggles and belly rubs. She does need lots of exercise to help burn off that energy so she’s definitely looking for an active family who can give her the exercise she needs, take her on trail hikes and lots of adventures. She travels well in a vehicle and gets excited when she knows going in it. A fenced in yard is required for her as she loves to run around in one and chase out the squirrels, raccoons, chipmunks, well let’s just say any creature that dares to land in her yard. She does need a fenced-in yard as she does love to run around and play outside. She hasn’t met a cat but we’re advising no cats in the home due to her high prey drive. She has a 6yr old child in her foster home and they get along great. The little boys favourite thing to do with her is lead her around the house on her leash. She takes it all in her stride and just follows behind him just like his little shadow.  ROUGE is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night. She’ll also go in it during the day and nap while left alone. She’s housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go out to the bathroom. She’s a very social girl and loves to chase and run around with the other female dog in the home so she would do well with a fur sibling in the home. The dog will need to be calm and not get too worked up with an energetic dog like Rouge around. She does have a high prey drive so we’re not recommending she be with cats. ROUGE is very strong so leash walking was a challenge at first but after being introduced to a Halti, she’s doing amazing and walking right beside her foster like a good girl. She can be reactive to other dogs when out walking but she is now learning that if she doesn’t bother them then they won’t bother her. We do recommend obedience/leash training for her and this will be beneficial for both Rouge and her new owner as it will help them bond.    If you are interested in meeting ROUGE then please put in an application to meet her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.TUXEDO hails from Poplar Hill and came down south in search of his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed healthy by his vet and ready to start his new life. This handsome, gentle boy will be a great addition to just about any family as he has such an easy going nature. He loves to cuddle with you on the couch and he loves being told what a good boy he is. TUXEDO is housetrained and will let you know when he has to have a bathroom break. He’s crate trained and will sleep quietly in it all night. He’s a very social boy and gets on well with other dogs and he’s in a foster home with with another male Husky with no issues between them at all. His foster is working on his leash skills with him but we would definitely recommend professional training for him so he knows what’s expected of him on his walks. He’s never met a cat so we don’t recommend a home with one. He does have children in his foster home aged 8 and up and he’s great with them so as long as they’re dog savvy, gentle and respectful to dogs.  TUXEDO is an active boy so his ideal family should be an active one too. They should also enjoy the outdoors, walks and hiking in the woods. He travels well in a vehicle and is always willing to go on adventures too. He does require a fenced yard as he loves to run around and play outside. He’s just learning a few commands like “sit” and “stay” which he will always do for treats and his meals. He’s is very food motivated and is currently using a slow feeder to help him slow down when eating at meal times.  TUXEDO was recently adopted but was returned to the rescue through no fault of his own. The details of his return will be discussed in the phone interview after an application has been submitted.  If TUXEDO sounds like the boy for you and your family then please put in an application to meet him.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.VENUS hails from Cat Lake and came south with her 6 puppies in search of a better life. She’s been spayed, vaccinated including her rabies, microchipped and been given a clean bill of health by her vet. We’ve just made an educated guess as to her breeds as unfortunately we have no info on her parentage. She’s a very gentle loving girl who was a wonderful nurturing mum to her puppies. However, she definitely has an energetic side to her too especially when it comes to playing outside.  VENUS is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it at night and will also go in it during the day for a nap. She’s a true northern girl as she has lots of energy for running around and playing outside  in the yard with the two resident dogs but when she comes inside the home, she relaxes quietly on her dog bed where she enjoys chewing on her bone or rubber toys. She’s very good with eating around the other dogs in the home and will sit calmly for her food or treats.  VENUS loves to be around people and to have reassurance that she’s loved. She’ll snuggle with you on the couch or lay right beside your feet. For this reason she would best suit having someone home for a good part of the day with her. She loves going on walks but would benefit from some formal leash training as if she gets excited she will pull. She has never met a cat so we wouldn’t recommend her being in a home with one. She has met children and was very good with them and we’re recommending they should be aged 6 and up and should have large breed dog experience. Her ideal family would be one that loves the outdoors as much as she does and enjoys walking and hiking on the trails too. She travels really well in a vehicle and would always be up for a road trip that leads to an adventure or two. She is housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside to use the bathroom. If you would like to meet VENUS then please put in an adoption application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROMEO hails from CAT LAKE in Northern Ontario and he came south with his mum and 5 siblings to find his forever home. His mum is a Labrador Retriever/Gt Pyrenees mix and weighs 60lbs but his dad is unknown. The breed mix we have him listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess as we really have no way of knowing. He’s had his first and second sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by our vet. His nick name is Chunk due to being the biggest in the litter. He’s a happy-go-lucky, confident and fun loving guy who loves nothing better than giving out puppy kisses and cuddling with you.  ROMEO is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it through the night and will also take his naps in there during the day. His house training is going well and he has very few accidents in the house now and when taken out for a bathroom break he will usually go. He’s doing well on his leash and really enjoys going on walks. He’s a well socialized energetic puppy who loves to play with with all sorts of toys and play chase with the resident dogs in his foster home. He would love to find a family who will take him on walks, hikes and basically enjoy being outside with him. He does okay in a vehicle but it’s not his favourite place to be and a couple of times he’s been in one he’s had an upset tummy. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a monitored introduction they should get along okay. Children should be aged 6 and up and he does require a fenced-in yard. Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his potential adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and will be performed at the Barrie SPCA by the time he’s 8 months of age or reaches 60lbs (whichever comes first.) We also need you to be in agreement with this in order to adopt him.  If you would like to meet ROMEO then please submit the adoption application to do so. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm

German Shepherd Dog

Female, Adult

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.SHERBET came to us as she was abandoned at a dog groomers/kennel. We do know she was in a home with a few other dogs though. She’s spayed, had her vaccines including rabies, is microchipped and deemed a healthy girl by her vet. This lovely quiet girl with the exquisite blue eyes is very loving and rarely barks at anything.  SHERBET was quite underweight and very timid when she first went to her foster home but she’s come such a long way since that time. She’s put on weight and she’ll now give tail wags to get snuggles and belly rubs. She’s a very friendly girl albeit a bit timid of meeting new people and is slightly cautious with men. She’s definitely turning into a people dog though and is getting more comfortable when meeting strangers and even tail wags are happening with them now.  SHERBET is housetrained and will let you know when she has to go outside for a bathroom break. She’s also crate trained and will sleep quietly in her crate all night. She loves going on walks and is good on her leash and rarely pulls. She loves going in a vehicle especially if it leads to an adventure or lovely walk for her. She’s looking for a home with a family who will take her on the nice long walks she loves as well as going on the hiking trails for walks in the woods. She would also love it if someone was home most of the day as she’s with a foster who works from home and she loves to snuggle up in her dog bed beside her. She was great with all the dogs she met at the kennel but she did recently meet a dog and they just didn’t like each other for some reason. We always have our dogs meet with a dog that will end up being her sibling as we can then all assess if they’re a good match for each other.  SHERBET requires a fenced yard to keep her safe and to allow her to run around and play with her outdoor toys. She’s never met a cat and she would suit older children of 10 plus as she’s not been exposed to any younger since being in foster care. She can do “sit” “stay” and “paw” she also takes treats “gentle.”  She would definitely benefit from obedience training and it’s also a good way for her to bond with her new owner. If you would like to meet SHERBET then please put in an adoption application yo meet her.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm

Golden Retriever German Shepherd Dog

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.THACKERY came from Slate Lake which is a Northern Ontario community and he came south in search of his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed a healthy boy. We’ve been told one of his parents was a Golden Retriever but no information on what breed the other parent could be. At a guess though, we think possibly a German Shepherd. Seeing as we don’t know both parents the size he’ll grow to be is also a guess but seeing as he’s just on a year old, chances are he’ll not grow much bigger. THACKERY is crate trained and sleeps quietly in there through the night and he’s also housetrained and will let you know when he has to go outside for his bathroom break. He loves to go on walks but would benefit from some leash training so he understands what’s expected of him when leash walking. He’s well socialized with other dogs and currently being fostered with 2 resident dogs and they all get along very well. Other dogs also come over to the house for visits so lots of doggie experience for this young man. Seeing as he loves to be with other dogs we would like to see him go to a home that has another one and one who’s a gentle soul just like he is. He loves to play outside in the yard and run around with his friends so a fenced-in yard is required for him. He has met a cat in his foster home and he’s not bothered by him at all but they haven’t actually met face-to-face so we would only recommend a home with a dog savvy cat and the two should only meet under strict supervision. THACKERY is very playful and loving and he loves nothing better than getting attention and having snuggles with his human on the couch. He is a sensitive somewhat anxious boy due to not having had a lot of human interaction but he did get attached to his foster mum pretty quickly. He now wants nothing more than to be with her so we would prefer him to go to a home that has someone who’s around most of the time. The toys he can play with are quite limited as he loves to chew so he would need super strong chewy ones, Nyla bones, deer antlers etc. Due to being a bit anxious he needs to be monitored if he starts to chew on his dog bed or blankets as he has been caught doing that a few times. An experienced dog owner is required for him and a quiet home to suit his sensitive nature. He’s not been exposed to too much noise and he tends to be a bit jumpy because of that. He does know some basic commands like sit, stay and will take his treats “gentle.” He does love his food and eats alongside the other dogs in the home with no problems at all. He hasn’t been exposed to children so we’re recommending they be aged 12 plus and be caring and loving towards dogs. He’s still under a year old and he would definitely benefit from obedience/leash training so please only apply for him if you’re going to be committed to doing this for him.   If THACKERY sounds like the boy for you then please submit an adoption application to meet him. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 23, 2024, 7:30 pm
