Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.HOVIS hails from the Northern Ontario community of Kingfisher Lake and came south with her sister, Ciabatta, to find her forever home. She was part of a litter of 4 puppies but only 2 came to this rescue. She’s received her first 2 vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. We have no knowledge of her parents so the breeds we have listed as are just an educated guess based on what she looks like. We’re also assuming she’s going to be an XL dog based on the breeds she looks like she is. She’s a very active big bundle of energetic joy who loves to run around and play. She also loves to chew on her many teething toys including her Nyla bone. She’s out going and loves to snuggle up with you and be a shadow who follows you around everywhere. She is adventurous and loves to investigate new things she finds in her environment. HOVIS is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and will nap in it during the day too. House training is going great and she hasn’t had any accidents in her foster home since being there and she’ll cry to go outside for a bathroom break.Walking sometimes can be a bit of a challenge with her as she zig zags in front of you and basically acts goofy and wants to hang around your legs. After a while she will start to walk better and get to enjoy her walk. She’s definitely not your typical Northern dog when it comes to food as she eats very daintily and likes to graze on her food. She does love her treats though and will eat them right up and take them “gentle” from you. She has very good manners at meal time too as she’ll sit nicely for her meals and wait to hear “good girl” before she moves to eat.  HOVIS’ ideal family would be an active one that loves the outdoors and to go on hikes and walks in the woods. She does well in a vehicle so will always be up for a drive and especially if it leads to an adventure for her. She’ll do well in a home with other dogs as she’s fostered with two of them and she loves to socialize with them too. She had met several kittens and she wants to swot at them with those big paws of hers so if there’s a cat in the home they should be dog savvy and quick enough to run away from her. She doesn’t seem to be aware of the size she is and comes across as but of a klutz and will knock into things and do things like stand in her food bowl and tip over her water bowl. She should do well as an only pet in the home provided she’s not left alone for long periods of time every day. Children should be aged 10yrs and up plus be loving, kind and gentle towards animals. A fenced-in yard is a must for her so she can be kept safe while she has a run around and play and with the energy she has, she’ll need that for sure.  Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We do need her adopter to be in agreement to take her for puppy/obedience training to help her to become the best girl possible. Her spay is included in her adoption fee and her potential adopter must be in agreement to have her spayed by the time she’s 6 months of age. The surgery will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. In order for the rescue to do so we need the spay requirements to still be followed plus a copy of the procedure invoice and a picture of her (preferably in her onsie or cone) in order to do the reimbursement. We do post the picture on our fb page along with other pets that were “fixed” in the same week.  If the big liveable HOVIS sounds like she’ll suit your family and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 30, 2025, 5:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.NYX hails from the Northern community of Fort Severn and came south to find her forever home. She’s received her first 2 sets of vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. She was part of a litter of 6 puppies but this rescue only received the last remaining one. We have no information on her parents so the size she’ll grow to be or her breeds are just an educated guess. When people meet her they always say what breeds is she and why is she so small; the reply is a Border Collie/Husky mix (judging by what she looks like) whose been put in a shrinking machine. Se have no idea why she’s so small but it shouldn’t be assumed she’ll be a small dog. She’s an active little lady who loves to run around and play with her toys and also chew on her many toys and with her sharp little teeth, she needs to have lots of chewy toys like Nyla bones to chew on.  NYX is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and she’ll also nap in it during the day too. House training is going really well and she’s very good at letting you know when she has to go out. Every time she’s taken out for a bathroom break she’ll go so she’s really catching on to what’s expected of her when she has an trip outside. She loves going on walks and gets excited when she knows she’s going on one. Like all puppies though she’ll race ahead of you and pull you along. She has very good manners at meal times and will sit nicely for them and also take her treats “gentle.” NYX’ ideal family would be an active one that loves to go on hikes and walks plus will take her on little adventures especially seeing as she travels so well in a vehicle. She’ll do well in a home with other dogs as she’s fostered with several of them and she’s well socialized with them too. She maybe small but she’s mighty and she won’t let the other dogs get the better of her and when she’s had enough of them, she’ll let them know with her feisty attitude. There’s several foster kittens in the home and they’ll run away from her except Amethyst or Chipmunk. They’re the ones who will play and wrestle with her while the other ones just look on with mild curiosity. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be puppy savvy as this little girl can be a toe chewer and a sock puller. They should also be kind, loving and gentle towards animals. She does require a fenced-in yard so she can be kept safe while she has a run around and play. Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We do need her adopter to be in agreement to take her for puppy/obedience training to help her to become the best girl possible. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.CIVIC came to us from a community in Manitoba and he came south to find his loving family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including his rabies shot, microchipped, had NexGard and a negative 4Dx test plus his vet also gave him a clean bill of health. We were told he was the breeds listed as he did have an owner in the community he came from. He’s full grown so we know that’s the size he’ll be give or take the odd pound. He’s a very loving little guy who loves to snuggle up with his foster on the couch but he’s also an active little guy who loves to be busy and burn off e energy. He will need a strong minded, experienced dog owner and an active one who can give him the exercise and discipline he needs so he can be the best little guy possible.  CIVIC is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it at night but he’ll make bit of a fuss when he goes in it during the day to take a nap but he’ll settle down after about 5 minutes or so. He’s housetrained and will let you know when he needs to go outside for a bathroom break. He loves to go on walks and can do about an hour walk around the lake no problem at all. He enjoys running around in the yard with his toys, stuffies and chasing balls around so he needs to have a fenced-in yard.. He’s fostered in a home with a small female dog and they get along really well together so he would suit a home with an easy going one just like she is. They are fed separately at meal times though as he thinks “what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine” too. He has a few kittens in his foster home and he wants to chase them around so he’s constantly watched with and not left alone with them either. We’re tending to lean more towards him best suited to being an only pet in his new home so he can have all the attention to himself. Young people should be at least 12 years of age and be dog savvy, loving and considerate to animals.  CIVIC would love to be part of an active home that likes to go on long walks. hiking in the woods and seeing as he loves riding in a vehicle, he would love to go on lots of car rides and adventures too. He’s good with young people but they should be aged 16 and up and be dog savvy, gentle, caring and loving towards animals. He knows quite a few basic commands like “sit”, “stay”, “paw”, “come” and will dance in circles when you offer him a treat. One of our fosters groomed him and shaved him down with no problem except when it came to his face and he was having none of that and started to bear his teeth to let her know he didn’t like her around his face. So when he goes for a grooming we suggest it should be someone who can handle a little guy like him and his tendencies.  CIVIC did have an incident at our vet’s office and he was fine going into the exam room but when his foster put him on the exam table he started to bare his teeth and snarl at the vet. We promptly put a muzzle on him but he still seemed pretty upset. The vet and her VT managed to settle him down and give him his shots and a wellness check but the only thing that wasn’t done was a mouth/teeth check due to the muzzle. His foster had never seen him act like that before and the only conclusion we could come up with is that he had a previous bad experience with a vet however, we did have him assessed by dog trainers (Leah & Andrew from K9 Focus) and they felt that he has some separation anxiety and he was standing his ground between the vet and his foster.  A latest update is that he snarled at his potential adopters as he was being adjusted in their vehicle. No matter what excuse we can give for the incident, it’s not acceptable behaviour. Both parties decided to cancel the adoption and we got him booked in for a board and train stint at Sunnidale Kennels in Angus. He’s doing great there and receiving lots of one on one training and flourishing under their professional care. The great thing about their programme is they offer several training classes with his adoptive family and we simply put them in touch with the kennels to set that up. We strongly recommend that this offer be taken advantage of as it will be a great way for both Civic and his new owner to form a bond. We feel we’ e done our due diligence in getting him assessed and put in the hands of very capable trainers and everyone has agreed he’s a loving dog and just needs to be with the right type of owners who will be able to take the upper hand with him and definitely not let him dominate them.  If CIVIC sounds like the dog that you can handle and will fit into your lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 6, 2025, 10:37 pm

Story
Meet Charlotte - the plushie-toting, tennis-ball-chasing queen of the zoomies!🐾✨This gorgeous 2-year-old black lab/shepherd mix may start off a little cautious, but give her a moment to get to know you, and she'll show you her bright, playful, totally endearing personality. She isn't a "fall in love at first sight" kind of girl - she prefers to take her time with new people. Charlotte is looking for someone who's willing to commit to more than one meet-and-greet and has the patience to help her work through her little bout of "stranger danger." But once you're in her circle of trust, she'll reward you with a deep bond, silly playtime, and endless affection. She loves carrying her plushies everywhere she goes and will happily chase a tennis ball as long as you can keep throwing. On walks, she'll check in with you for reassurance, but don't let that fool you - she's a smart, quick learner who grows more confident every day. Charlotte has shared a home with both cats and dogs and gets along well with furry friends who match her vibe. Small kids, though? She'd prefer to keep the "prime zoomer" title for herself.😉 If you're looking for a loyal companion who blossoms with patience, consistency, and love, Charlotte may just be your perfect match. She's ready to warm up, open up, and shine🐾✨If you would like to meet Charlotte, she is staying at 91 Patterson Rd in Barrie.
