Story
Spayed FemaleAge: 10 YearsBlack and WhiteDomestic Long HairA441072 More about Watermelon: I was an outdoor cat who transitioned to indoor/outdoor life, and most recently I have been living indoors. Overall I appear to be a pretty sensitive lady, looking for a quiet, low-traffic home without much transition. Expectations should be kept low that I will be outgoing and snuggly. I would appreciate a safe option for spending time outdoors, but this is not required with a cat-savvy adopter who can provide appropriate enrichment. I am easily stressed and overwhelmed during transitions, so I am looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in ... this could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. My ultimate success will be dependent upon how well my adopter is able to read and understand my body language. I should start in my own space ... an extra bedroom or bathroom ... where people and animals do not have access except to feed and clean. I should initially be left alone as I adjust. My space should include plenty of hiding spaces, ideally with access to vertical surfaces such as a cat tree or cat-proofed shelf, with easy access to a litter box, food, and water. I should not be approached for pets or to be picked up when I am hiding or showing fearful body language. Ideally, with enough time to myself to decompress and become comfortable in my new surroundings, I will begin to relax and move around more freely while my adopter is in the room with me. Only once I am confidently moving about my closed environment and I remain confident with relaxed body language when my adopter is in the room with me should I be given gradual access to more of the home. Meeting new people can be very overwhelming for me. It is possible I may only ever be comfortable with those in my small bubble. My adopter should be comfortable with a cat who may not ever want to expand their social circle. I should be given the option to stay in a different space when visitors come over. I should be thought of as a `pet themselves on you` kind of cat until I am comfortable, meaning I should always be allowed to initiate an interaction versus reaching out to pet me. Use `pet consent tests`. My adopter should have a relationship with a fear-free vet who can help my adopter come up with a handling plan that will reduce stress for everyone and keep everyone safe

Story
Spayed FemaleAge: 16 YearsBlack and WhiteDomestic Long HairA174223 More about Cookie: SPECIAL ADOPTER ALERT!!! I am a very sweet, independent and quiet, mature lady who is looking for a retirement home to live out my golden years. I enjoy pets and belly rubs! I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings. I will need assistance with keeping up my grooming since I needed to have matts shaved when I arrived. Staff will review my medical records with my potential adopter to ensure they have a full understanding of my current and future medical needs. I have kidney disease, a grade 3 heart murmur, dental disease, and I am showing signs that I will develop thyroid disease. The shelter`s vet team determined that I am comfortable to be placed for hospice since I currently have a quality of life. My adopter will need to have a close relationship with a vet, and be able to discern when my quality of life has declined enough to make a tough call. My adopter should be aware that my remaining time will be all about quality, not quantity. I was previously an indoor-outdoor cat, but it is felt that at this point in my life I will be able to adjust to indoors only. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Dogs: Possibly - did well living with a mellow, cat-savvy dog in her previous home.Cats: Was attacked by neighborhood cats, but may do okay with an existing quiet cat.Kids: Yes!

Story
Mr. Chill is our gorgeous solid grey and white long haired handsome, young boy that is a miracle cat.  A vet that Critter Cavalry Rescue works with, called about Mr. Chill who was brought in to their clinic with a badly broken leg that required surgery and a pin in his leg.  The senior couple could not afford the surgery and they were going to euthanize this handsome boy.  Critter Cavalry Rescue paid the $1,000 bill to fix his leg and save his life.  He was worth it !!!!  His regular name was Cloudy but we nicknamed him Mr. Chill.  He has been healing so nicely and getting friendlier and snuggly the past 3 weeks since we picked him up from the vet’s office after surgery.  He greets his foster mom at the door in the morning, ready for her to pick him up and hold him over her shoulder.  He wants lots of head scratches, please!  He has started walking on all four legs now, but he still travels with a slight limp in his giddy-up.  Thankfully all the nerves in his paw seem to be intact and we marvel at what a trouper he has been!  As you can see from his good looks , he is also a gentleman and has been so tolerant of the other younger and more energetic kitten in the cat room of the house.  He has never hurt her; he hasn’t even growled to ask her to please quiet down and behave.  He just embraces the fun.  Mr. Chill is all that and more….such gentle boy.  He is  destined to become a lap cat, not because he has to, but because he wants to.  Purring is guaranteed with his adoption and at no extra charge!   Please write to us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   May 5, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
Mary is our most precious girl that is 8 months old and only 6 pounds.  She is a heavenly vision in our book.  The solid grey mixed with the ethereal white long fur is just so inviting to pet and stroke and snuggle with her.  She is all of that angelic approach and more.  Mary loves to lounge around the house looking like a 1940’s Glam Girl and who actually personifies it with her very calm nature.  This is a truly unique cat that you will count as one of the top companion pets in  your lifetime.  She is super sweet and loves belly rubs as a sign of affection and connection as well. She is incredibly affectionate and loves playing with wand toys that dance in front of her face and lures her into a game of chase and pounce. She sleeps next to her foster mom’s pillow every night and it such a comfort and loving connection.  She was adopted recently to a home that had a very aggressive and alpha cat that truly  was mean and hateful to Mary. We took her back for her own safety and it has taken 3 months to get her back to a good frame of mind. She is in a new foster home with other cats and dogs and there are no issues.  She would do well with another mellow cat like her if you are wanting a companion.  Otherwise she can just be the only LOVEBUG in your life.  If you are interested, please email at ccrnewengland@gmail.com Our vetting is extensive: Spay, rabies, FIV vaccine, FIV tested and negative, fecal and dewormings and a Drontal  and microchipped. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.May 5, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Ringo is a very gentle and sweet.  He has beautiful eyes, elegant, silky fur and a very soft meow.  Ringo is OK with other cats, but not interested in rough play.  Although he is a young cat, he is low energy and undemanding.  He'd much rather hang out on the couch than race around the house or climb your drapes. He would do great in a quiet home or one where he has a quiet retreat when he want to snooze.  All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only. May 4, 2024, 3:33 pm

Story
We are Speedy and Dolores - a gentle 9 year pair that have lead a quiet life. We are both lap cats, loveable, playful and good company. I am the shyer of our duo and will need a little more time to warm up. Once I do, I love to be pet. We both have thick long coats that need some extra management. The doctor noted a heart murmur at my exam but it doesn't slow me down We'd be best in a quiet pet and child free home.
