Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Stevie is a sweet 6 year old female spayed cat, looking for a calm home. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Stevie is an incredibly soft, gentle cat with a very sweet and shy personality. She is quiet and calm by nature and prefers a peaceful environment. While she may take time to feel comfortable, once she settles in she is affectionate and enjoys being near her person. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Stevie really enjoys being pet and finds it very comforting. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She especially likes being pet on her head and along her back. Gentle, slow pets are her favorite. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She does not like her belly being brushed or touched and can become uncomfortable if that area is handled. Does the cat come on your lap? No, Stevie does not sit on laps. She prefers to stay close without being directly on top of people. Does the cat like to be held? No, she does not enjoy being held and feels safest when all four paws are on the ground. Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, she does not sleep in the bed and prefers to sleep in her own comfortable, quiet spaces. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, Stevie does seek attention in her own gentle way. She will come over for pets when she feels comfortable and enjoys calm companionship. Does the cat like to play? No, she is not very playful and has a low energy level. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She does not show much interest in toys or games very often but sometimes she likes to play with the stick toys with strings and ribbons on the end.  How vocal is the cat? Stevie is mildly vocal. She may meow during the day, but not very often or very loudly. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She primarily meows softly. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? No. If no, please explain. She has a scratching post on her cat tree but does not typically use it. Does the cat always use the litter box? She uses pee pads consistently. If no, please explain. Stevie always uses her pee pads. If there are any accidents, they are usually due to debris getting caught in her long hair rather than a behavioral issue. She does have hairballs on the floor fairly regularly. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Stevie eats dry food that is left out for her to snack on throughout the day and is refilled nightly. Is the cat picky about food? She is not picky and eats her regular food well. What is the cat's favorite treat? She sometimes enjoys Churus as well as wet food or cat soup as an occasional treat. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No, she has never swatted. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Stevie is extremely fearful of new people. She is most comfortable when the home is quiet and it is just her and her caregiver present. When others are around, she prefers to keep to herself and should have a quiet, safe space to retreat to. If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? She has not been observed with other animals, so her compatibility with pets is unknown. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Stevie is incredibly cute, gentle, and sweet. Once she becomes comfortable, she is a wonderful presence to have around and makes a calm, soothing companion. She would be perfect for someone who appreciates a quiet, affectionate cat. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Stevie’s biggest challenge is her fear of new people and loud noises, so she needs a quiet, calm home. She also has long fur that is prone to matting and does not like being brushed.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 15, 2026, 1:11 pm

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Alaska is a sweet and friendly neutered male cat, approximately four years old. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him, after only a week in foster care: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Alaska loves to play, especially in the early morning hours. He is highly food motivated and will tell you how happy he is to be served breakfast and dinner with many meows and chirps of excitement. He also likes his alone time and spends most of the day napping by a window. He is also always looking for a new hiding spot! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? He loves being pet on the head, cheeks and chin.  Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He does not like being pet on his body and will playfully show you his belly but don't pet (it's a trap!) Does the cat come on your lap? Very much.  Does the cat like to be held? I don't think he loves it but he will allow it.  Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes! He loves taking a nap with his preferred human. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, he will meow to ask for pets (or treats). Does the cat like to play? Yes, he is very curious about his reflection in the mirror, likes to scratch his cat tree and play with hanging fixtures on it. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He loves playing with his cat wand and a treat dispenser ball. How vocal is the cat? He meows when being fed or after not seeing you for some time. Other than that he is relatively quiet and laid back. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Meows and chirps! Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? He eats a mix kibble and wet food for breakfast (around 10-11am) and dinner (6-8pm) and has a small portion of wet food in between (5-6am and around 11pm). Is the cat picky about food? No. What is the cat's favorite treat? Churus! Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Sometimes if he is in a playful mood, but rarely. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes, if he is done being pet or overstimulated but usually his body language is easy to read so avoid this. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He is definitely shy with new people but will tolerate being in their company especially if they are considerate of his boundaries! He warms up within a few hours and lets you know when he's done being social.    Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He does sometimes get into fights with his own reflection in the middle of the night. Before bed he also always makes biscuits (sometimes on you) while sucking on the blanket (it's the cutest thing ever). He also grooms himself like every two hours (very diligently).  In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? He has so much personality! A great mix of a chilled out cat (especially because he sleeps the whole day I don't worry about him when I leave for work). By the time I get home I can tell he is happy to see me and we always get some playtime in before bed.  What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The only thing that comes to mind is when he is looking for a place to hide (in furniture he is mostly not allowed in-- like my closet) I have to be consistent in telling him no and sometimes he will get annoyed but I make sure to give him other options.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 15, 2026, 1:11 pm
