Cilantro is a sensitive soul who may need a little extra time to feel safe and comfortable in a new home. While we have limited information about what Cilantro was like in a home, they have been fearful in the shelter, often choosing to hide or avoid interaction when feeling overwhelmed. Because of this, Cilantro will need a patient adopter who understands that settling in may take days, weeks, or even longer.Cilantro will do best starting out in a quiet, dedicated space with plenty of cozy hiding spots and places to climb and observe. With time, patience, Cilantro may begin to relax and show more of their personality. They may always prefer a small social circle, but for the right person, earning their trust will be incredibly rewarding.

We call her Shoe, like the old woman who lived in one and had too many kids, because apparently she was allowed to breed indiscriminately for 10 years (at least) and was living on an open porch before I took her and 4 kits in. She is spayed now, of course, but she's partially deaf from horrifying ear infections that I cleaned up and have since resolved. She's much calmer after having been spayed and is looking for a quiet home where she can relax and find love. She really does want to be friendly, and she sleeps on a corner of my bed when my other cat is not around.

Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Stevie is an incredibly soft, gentle cat with a very sweet and shy personality. She is quiet and calm by nature and prefers a peaceful environment. While she may take time to feel comfortable, once she settles in she is affectionate and enjoys being near her person. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Stevie really enjoys being pet and finds it very comforting. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She especially likes being pet on her head and along her back. Gentle, slow pets are her favorite. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She does not like her belly being brushed or touched and can become uncomfortable if that area is handled. Does the cat come on your lap? No, Stevie does not sit on laps. She prefers to stay close without being directly on top of people. Does the cat like to be held? No, she does not enjoy being held and feels safest when all four paws are on the ground. Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, she does not sleep in the bed and prefers to sleep in her own comfortable, quiet spaces. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, Stevie does seek attention in her own gentle way. She will come over for pets when she feels comfortable and enjoys calm companionship. Does the cat like to play? No, she is not very playful and has a low energy level. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She does not show much interest in toys or games very often but sometimes she likes to play with the stick toys with strings and ribbons on the end.  How vocal is the cat? Stevie is mildly vocal. She may meow during the day, but not very often or very loudly. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She primarily meows softly. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? No. If no, please explain. She has a scratching post on her cat tree but does not typically use it. Does the cat always use the litter box? She uses pee pads consistently. If no, please explain. Stevie always uses her pee pads. If there are any accidents, they are usually due to debris getting caught in her long hair rather than a behavioral issue. She does have hairballs on the floor fairly regularly. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Stevie eats dry food that is left out for her to snack on throughout the day and is refilled nightly. Is the cat picky about food? She is not picky and eats her regular food well. What is the cat's favorite treat? She sometimes enjoys Churus as well as wet food or cat soup as an occasional treat. Is the cat on any medication? Stevie takes twice daily gabapentin to help with anxiety. She's easy to medicate, taking the medications in hydration packets. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No, she has never swatted. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Stevie is extremely fearful of new people. She is most comfortable when the home is quiet and it is just her and her caregiver present. When others are around, she prefers to keep to herself and should have a quiet, safe space to retreat to. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Stevie is incredibly cute, gentle, and sweet. Once she becomes comfortable, she is a wonderful presence to have around and makes a calm, soothing companion. She would be perfect for someone who appreciates a quiet, affectionate cat. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Stevie’s biggest challenge is her fear of new people and loud noises, so she needs a quiet, calm home. She also has long fur that is prone to matting and does not like being brushed. Stevie requires a dedicated and loving home to manage her ongoing health needs. She is currently stable, but her condition does require consistent daily care and regular monitoring. Here is a summary of her medical profile for potential adopters: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stevie has been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, specifically categorized as IRIS stage 3 . While this is a chronic condition, she has remained stable and is not currently showing signs of severe distress . To manage her kidney health, she requires a permanent prescription renal diet . Ureterolithiasis (Kidney Stones) Stevie has a history of ureterolithiasis, which means she has small stones or mineral deposits in her kidneys and ureters . Currently, her condition is stable because urine is successfully passing by these stones . While surgery is not indicated or recommended at this time, there is a risk that these stones could cause an obstruction in the future, so she needs a family that is proactive and observant . Daily Management & Monitoring Medication: Stevie requires gabapentin twice daily to manage potential discomfort associated with her condition . Dietary Needs: She must be kept on a strict prescription renal diet . We may also trial the addition of chia seeds to her food to help manage her calcium levels, as recommended by her specialists . Spirit cats are very shy with people, and live in your home but are rarely seen – hence their name. They are cats who coexist in your home, and sometimes may grant you the opportunity to touch them – or they may not. Despite being shy with people, spirit cats are usually great with other cats! They are used to living with many cats, and can make excellent companions for cats in your home. It’s not uncommon for a spirit cat to get used to one or two people over time, and those people will be allowed to touch them and they may even choose to hang out near you or sleep on your bed at night. They are a great choice for people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat. Patience and understanding are the best tools when welcoming a spirit cat into your home. It’s important to know that spirit cats won’t magically turn into a normal acting cat – what you see is what you get for a long time, maybe always.
