Current location: Chester, VA Hi, I'm Jean! Let me start by saying that first impressions aren't exactly my strong suit. I'm a little like that person who seems awkward at a party but turns out to be the funniest, most lovable one in the room once you get to know them. When I meet new people, I can be a little shy, and when I meet new dogs, I sometimes get a bit snappy. I know, I know. Not exactly the best way to make friends! But here's the thing: give me a day to settle in, and I'll be everyone's new bestie. Seriously. Once I realize we're friends, we're FRIENDS. Underneath my slightly awkward introduction is an incredibly loving, cuddly, playful girl with a whole lot of personality. I absolutely adore affection and snuggling up with my favorite humans. But don't let my cuddly side fool you. I've also got plenty of energy for playtime. I'm looking for someone who understands that the best friendships aren't always instant. Sometimes a girl just needs a little time to feel comfortable enough to show her true colors. And trust me, once you get past my awkward introduction, you'll discover a sweet, silly, affectionate best friend who will keep you laughing and shower you with love. So what do you say? Meet Ozzie, a spunky Feist mix with a shiny black coat, a playful spirit, and enough enthusiasm to turn every day into an adventure! This handsome youngster is always ready for fun, whether he's zooming around the yard, chasing his dog buddies, or engaging in a friendly wrestling match. If you've been looking for a dog who can keep up with an active lifestyle, Ozzie may be your perfect match. Ozzie is more than just a bundle of energy—he's also a smart boy with great house manners. He appears to be both house-trained and crate-trained (though we can’t guarantee it), rides quietly in a crate during car trips, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He even shares space peacefully with cats, preferring to mind his own business rather than stir up trouble. Ozzie can be a little cautious when meeting new people and may announce their arrival with a bark, but once he realizes there's nothing to worry about, he's quick to settle down. Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Toby is a small Feist mix with very big ears and a very sweet personality. He greets people a wagging tail and nuzzles for pets. That pretty much tells you what Toby is about: he likes being close to his people. Toby is easy to walk, with no pulling or getting underfoot, and showed friendly interest in the dogs he passed. He handles stairs like a champ—even though some of the steps are nearly as tall as he is! Toys didn’t hold his attention for long -- he is much more interested in laps and pets. Treats are also very high on Toby’s list, and he takes them gently. Toby is an affectionate, gentle little guy who may need a bit of reassurance when something feels big or noisy. Mostly, though, he seems to be looking for a lap that has room for him.

Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Meet Olaplex! This little girl is sure to win your heart with her soulful eyes & silly personality. She’s very lovable and will lay on your lap as long as you let her. She really enjoys her naps. She loves playing with her toys, her favorite is playing fetch with her tennis ball.  She will bring back to you every time!  Not bad for such a young pup! She is great with adults, teens and younger kids too. She’s potty pad trained (sometimes a bit too close to the edge), and is still working on going outside. She is crate trained and sleeps through the night no problem- she may whine for a minute or two at first then settles in.  Adoption Day: October 10th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–10:30 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Current Location: Union Bridge, MD Looking for a little fox with a big personality? Meet Redford, a handsome 8-year-old, 15 lb., red mahogany Chihuahua mix with a heart as big as they come. Redford is a curious, independent, and friendly boy who has settled into foster life beautifully. He is easygoing and adaptable, and he does not mind a busy household or the commotion of several large dogs. He enjoys following his canine friends around to see what everyone is up to, and he is great with people, including the very large humans in his life! Redford is wonderfully house trained and learned his leash manners remarkably quickly. He walks nicely and does not need a fenced yard, making him a great fit for many types of homes. He also knows “kennel” and is completely comfortable in his crate while his foster family is at work. He can also be trusted to relax in his own room when left out. He is very food motivated and eager to learn when treats are involved. He is also happy to accept praise and has been easy to teach. Even nail trims are no big deal for this little guy. Redford has a wonderfully balanced energy level. He is content with light daily activity, enjoys an occasional play session or short walk, and is equally happy settling down on the couch. One of his favorite things is sitting with his foster family and the other dogs while watching TV. Yes, he actually watches TV! Redford is friendly with strangers, good with other dogs, and wonderfully adaptable. He is the kind of dog who can fit into many different homes and simply enjoys being part of the family. He may look like a little fox, but his real superpower is being an incredibly easy and lovable companion.
