Meet Shaggy...One of the Scooby Doo puppies! Shaggy's story began on Kelly Mountain in Logan County, West Virginia, where he, his mom, and two brothers were found abandoned by a group of hunters far from any nearby homes. When the hunters stopped, the little family immediately approached them, friendly and social, leading us to believe they once belonged to someone and were intentionally left behind. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and took the family into her home until rescue help could be secured. Because of her compassion, Shaggy got the second chance he deserved. His mom and brothers have all been adopted, so now it’s Shaggy’s turn. For the past few months, Shaggy has been in his local foster home, living as part of a busy family. He's being fostered with a mom and dad, two children, two adult dogs, and has frequent toddler visitors from the 3-year-old grandson. He loves kids and is very gentle and affectionate with them. He would happily spend his day being held or included in whatever his people are doing. Shaggy has great house manners - he is crate trained, potty trained, sleeps through the night, and is not destructive. He has moved beyond the baby puppy stage now. He's a naturally happy boy who enjoys the company of other dogs and loves spending time with his family. Like many young dogs, Shaggy is still working on his leash manners and social skills. He can be barky when meeting some new people or dogs while on leash, though it's intermittent and situation-dependent. We had a trainer evaluate him, and he feels Shaggy simply needs more exposure to new environments outside the home to continue building his confidence. His foster family has been working with him consistently, and he's already making progress. Molly has started to open up more towards our kids, and even jumped into our 7 yr old's lap the other day. She loves napping on the couch (and the bed if you let her!) and doesn’t need to be picked up—she’s strong and can easily hop onto couch, into the car, or even the bathtub on her own. She’s very food motivated and comes running the moment she smells a treat or sees you in the kitchen, but seems to understand commands like no, stay, stop, etc. Eclipse sleeps through the night in her crate and does great when left alone. She gets along well with our senior dog and is pretty neutral around other dogs—she’s much more interested in her humans. Overall, Eclipse would make a wonderful companion in just about any home. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure they can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Monchi is Looking For: His forever home! Monchi is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He can't wait to get his own humans in the DC area for sniffy walks and romps in parks and world exploration - there's so much he wants to do and see! Dog school would be great too, so he can learn to be the bestest boy. But you know what he wants most of all? To know where he belongs, to be safe and loved. What My Foster Says About Me: Monchi has been a wonderful foster and has settled into my home beautifully. He is a happy, confident pup who loves everyone meets and never misses an opportunity to say hello to people on our walks. He is very playful and affectionate, enjoying both cuddle time and playtime with his toys and canine friends. He still has typical puppy energy and loves to zoom around the yard or play with other dogs, but he also does great on longer walks and happily joins me for our daily mile-long adventures. Monchi has been making great progress with his training. He walks nicely on leash, especially when following his foster brother's lead, and is learning basic commands. He is great in his crate, sleeping through the night and remains calm when left alone. One of Monchi's best qualities is his outgoing and friendly personality. He approaches life with confidence, curiosity, and enthusiasm. He loves both people and dogs and would thrive in a home that can continue his training, provide regular exercise, and give him plenty of opportunities to share his joyful spirit.
