Story
To learn more about Ozzie, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org. Meet Ozzie, a spunky Feist mix with a shiny black coat, a playful spirit, and enough enthusiasm to turn every day into an adventure! This handsome youngster is always ready for fun, whether he's zooming around the yard, chasing his dog buddies, or engaging in a friendly wrestling match. If you've been looking for a dog who can keep up with an active lifestyle, Ozzie may be your perfect match. Ozzie is more than just a bundle of energy—he's also a smart boy with great house manners. He appears to be both house-trained and crate-trained (though we can’t guarantee it), rides quietly in a crate during car trips, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He even shares space peacefully with cats, preferring to mind his own business rather than stir up trouble. Ozzie can be a little cautious when meeting new people and may announce their arrival with a bark, but once he realizes there's nothing to worry about, he's quick to settle down. Because he's still a young dog with plenty of puppy energy, Ozzie would thrive in a home that can give him lots of opportunities to play, exercise, and explore. An energetic canine companion would be a huge bonus—he absolutely loves having a four-legged friend to romp around with. If you're looking for a cheerful sidekick who will keep you smiling and make every day a little more exciting, Ozzie is ready to meet you!

To learn more about Toby please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Toby will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Toby is a small, 5-year-old Feist mix with very big ears and a very sweet personality. He greets people a wagging tail and nuzzles for pets. That pretty much tells you what Toby is about: he likes being close to his people. Toby is easy to walk, with no pulling or getting underfoot, and showed friendly interest in the dogs he passed. He handles stairs like a champ—even though some of the steps are nearly as tall as he is! Toys didn’t hold his attention for long -- he is much more interested in laps and pets. Treats are also very high on Toby’s list, and he takes them gently. Toby is an affectionate, gentle little guy who may need a bit of reassurance when something feels big or noisy. Mostly, though, he seems to be looking for a lap that has room for him.

Story
Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Now she is ready for the part of her story where she belongs somewhere for good. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.September 16, 2026, 5:56 pm

Story
Say Hi to the happiest and most easily adaptable pup! Beat of My Heart is a jolly and curious puppy who loves to play and to be cuddled (and for some reason, he loves watching tv with you!). He is super treat-motivated, so he learns really quickly -- he already knows how to sit, go to his crate, go to his bed and has made great progress in potty training too. Before getting his food, he knows to sit down and when it's time for bed, all you need to do is open his crate and he goes right into it and sleeps (make sure to add a few teething toys in there just in case he gets bored when he wakes up before you do! He has been socialized around other dogs that we meet during our walks and he is aware of strangers, although he sometimes randomly barks at people walking by us. He also walks extremely well on the leash, which makes him a perfect companion if you also enjoy walks!  Adoption Day: September 19th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–10:30 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2813516##

Story
Hi! My name is Pinecone (don’t ask me where that came from). My foster mom says I’m fantastic, but I just do what I do. 🐾 The world is still pretty new to me, so sometimes I get a little startled. But once I know I’m safe, I love to explore. I also like to chase my tail. I’m lucky it’s so long because I WILL catch it someday. I know I’m supposed to go potty outside, but sometimes I just can’t hold it yet! I also know my crate is a safe space, but if I can see you, I’d really rather be with you. I don’t even mind baths. The first time, I wasn’t sure what was happening, so I jumped in to get a better look...and then suddenly I was all wet! I learned how to do these things called steps, and I like to skip the last one on my way down. That's how I roll. My foster mom says I prance around like a baby goat, but I’m not sure I know what a goat is yet. I do know there is no other dog in the oven. I thought there was, but it turns out it was just my reflection. My foster mom could have given me some warning before she opened the oven to prove it, though. I about lost my 💩. So far, I really like humans and dogs of all ages and sizes. The little humans are especially fun! I like being held, and I love being near my people while they do their human stuff. Did you know sending an email can make a whoosh sound? I was a little weirded out by that at first, but I get it now. I’m looking for a family who will help me continue getting to know this big world and teach me all the things I need to know to become the very best boy I can be. Is that you? If so, please apply so we can be together forever. ❤️

Name:   Tome          Best Guess for Breed:   CHI MIX   Best Guess for Age:   1 YEAR as of Sept. 2026         SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:   14 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Special adoption considerations:   Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure they can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.   Currently Living at:  Puerto Rico shelter---needs DC area foster or forever home   Check out this video of Tome: https://youtube.com/shorts/H2-e4xbq9C0.    Tome is Looking For:    This Chihuahua mix with a striking, classic fawn coat is looking for toys, fun walks, buried blankets for his expert napping, and being right by your side!  What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update once Tomé has spent time in foster!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  the shelter, Quest needs a foster and a forever home.   Quest is Looking For:  At 4 years old, he’s right in that sweet spot where he’s playful, attentive, and past the chaos of puppyhood. Quest brings the charm of a Chihuahua and the cheerful sturdiness of a Corgi, all wrapped up in one adorable package.   He enjoys spending time with people, going for short walks, and relaxing in comfortable spaces. Quest has a moderate energy level and is well‑suited for adopters seeking a small dog who is past the high‑energy puppy stage but still enjoys daily activity and companionship.   He interacts politely with other small dogs and responds well to gentle handling. Quest would do best in a calm, predictable home environment where he can feel secure and included. Once he builds trust, he becomes a loyal, attentive companion.     What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update once Quest spends some time with a foster. Small dog with a very big heart LYDIA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Lydia        Best Guess for Breed:    Chihuahua mix      Best Guess for Age:    4 years as of 09/08/2026        SEX:    female   Approximate Weight: 11 lbs. as of 09/14/2026   Gets Along With: other dogs. We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   the shelter, Lydia needs a foster and a forever home.   Special adoption considerations: Lydia is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Lydia is Looking For:   Hi, I’m Luna. I’m a 4‑year‑old Chihuahua, and I’m small enough to fit in your arms but big enough to fill your whole heart. People at the shelter say I’m sweet and calm - I know they don't say that about all the Chihuahuas! When I first meet new people — I like to take a moment to sniff, blink up at you, and decide if you’re one of the safe ones. But once I know you’re kind, I melt like warm sunshine.   I love soft blankets, quiet rooms, and humans who speak gently. I’m not demanding; I just like being near you. If you sit down, I’ll probably curl up right next to your hip. If you walk around, I’ll trot behind you like your tiny shadow. I don’t need long adventures — just short walks, cozy naps, and someone who thinks my little tail wags are special.   I get along with other dogs who are polite and calm. Big energy can overwhelm me, so I prefer peaceful homes where I can feel secure. I'm very loyal so once I choose you, I choose you forever.   I’m ready to start my next chapter. I hope it’s with someone who sees me not just as a small dog, but as a small soul who wants to love and be loved.   If you think we might belong together… I’m waiting.    What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update once Lydia spends some time with a foster.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
