Story
Meet Tilly ❤️ This sweet girl was purchased from a breeder to hunt squirrels, but despite her Mountain Feist lineage, she WASN’T a natural hunter with a strong prey drive. When she wouldn’t bark at treed squirrels, she was deemed unfit for hunting. Tilly spent her early life as a hunter’s dog, living in an outdoor kennel with concrete floors and a wooden box for shelter, never knowing the comforts of home or what it meant to be part of a family. Thankfully, one of our volunteers knew the hunter and stepped in to secure Tilly’s safety. Over the past 6 weeks, Tilly’s world has completely transformed. She’s now living in a warm foster home with Hannah and her two dogs. She integrated easily, follows her foster siblings everywhere, and learns by watching them. In the beginning, she was a bit protective of her crate space, likely a remnant from her past life. As she’s settled in and learned she’s safe, she’s let go of behaviors tied to her past life outside. Tilly was shy at first, but she’s truly blossomed. She now seeks out affection, follows her foster mom around, and has been wonderful with guests. She’s sweet, friendly, and comfortable meeting new people. Though indoor life was new to her (mirrors, TVs, and dishwashers were scary at first), she’s made huge strides in confidence. She now happily snuggles on the couch, sleeps under the covers, gives the sweetest kisses, and lives for head scratches. Tilly has a medium energy level. She enjoys running around the yard but is laid-back and calm in the house. She is crate-trained, and her crate is her safe space. She’s making good progress with potty training; she knows she’s supposed to go outside, but is still learning how to signal her foster mom. She’s also doing well on leash; she may pull initially, but she corrects quickly. She will watch squirrels closely, but doesn’t try to chase. She’s just aware. Tilly has discovered what it means to feel safe and loved, and she’s blossoming more every day. She has done well as part of a pack but would also be fine as an only dog. She has not shown any food or treat guarding; however, she can be protective of toys and tends to hoard them. She’s new to having belongings of her own and is still learning how to share appropriately. Overall, Tilly is a pretty easy pup. She’s sweet as can be and adapting well to her new life. Apply today!
