Story
A true black beauty with a big heart and a bright mind. Onyx is friendly, loving, and deeply people focused. He listens well, picks things up quickly, and wants nothing more than your attention. He has no aggression at all. He simply wants to be close to his people and part of whatever is happening. He has been well loved and it shows in his manners and confidence. He is crate trained and continues to improve on leash. Walks are one of his favorite things. He happily greets people he meets along the way and mostly ignores other dogs, keeping his focus where it belongs. Onyx loves fetch and already knows sit, stay, and lay down. He is smart and eager, the kind of dog who enjoys learning and showing you what he knows. Onyx has lived successfully with three children and does beautifully with kids. He is patient, gentle, and engaged, making him a wonderful family dog. He would thrive in a home that has time to give him the attention and companionship he truly deserves. Onyx was adopted from OPH as a puppy and has been well cared for ever since. Due to unexpected medical and financial hardship, his family made the heartbreaking decision to return him so he can find stability again. He is ready to shine in a new home and give his whole heart to the next family lucky enough to choose him.

Story
https://foha.org/pet/milo2024/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Milo (pronounced MEE-LO)—a small dog with a big heart! I’m a sweet, speedy little guy who loves both playful adventures and peaceful moments. I have a cute routine of carrying a chew toy in my mouth when I’m getting ready for walks. I enjoy spending time outside soaking up the sun and doing my lightning-fast zoomies. After a fun outing, I’m the perfect co-pilot who curls up and naps in the car. I’m a bit timid at first but eager to connect with my people. I’ve thrived in a home environment and have done well living with other dogs, though I do appreciate breaks from them sometimes. I’m loyal, intelligent, and affectionate—just the right companion for active yet cozy days. And make sure to scroll down past my bio to see all the AMAZING videos my foster mom has posted! You can really see how much I thrive in a home, and maybe it’ll help you see how I could be in your home and heart! HOW AM I WITH DOGS: Good with dogs with proper introductions. I’ve lived with multiple dogs and did great, but I may need patience and breaks from them occasionally. HOW AM I WITH CATS: I am a bit too interested in cats and would do best in a home without feline friends. HOW AM I WITH KIDS: Unknown. I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Sit, stay, come. MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I have good house manners! THINGS I LIKE: Chew toys, sunny yard time, car rides, cuddling, zoomies. THINGS I DISLIKE: Storms, sudden dog encounters in public places. FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS – https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/ ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet. My adoption fee has been covered by a generous donor!!

He’s friendly with people, dogs, AND cats, making him the ultimate social butterfly (minus the wings… although, with his charm, he might as well fly).     Looking for a buddy who’s sweet as can be, adores life, and is ready to love you unconditionally? Then Merle is your guy. Don’t wait — apply today and scoop up this cutie before someone else does. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Paisley! This adorable girl came to us from a rural county shelter after being surrendered by her owner. Once a bit shy, she’s now thriving in foster care and showing off her sassy Chihuahua personality. Paisley is a fun-loving pup who’s always up for an adventure but equally happy to snuggle with her humans. Paisley is currently fostered with two moms and five other dogs and has done well as part of a pack. While she has the occasional moment of classic Chihuahua sass, especially when it comes to sharing couch space, she’s also a fantastic playmate. She’s very good at reading other dogs, adjusting her energy and play style to match those who want to play, and respectfully giving space to those who don’t. After 3.5 weeks in foster care, Paisley has developed solid house manners. She’s doing well with potty training and is now crate trained. Her foster moms use the crate overnight and when they’re out of the house. While Paisley would happily choose to sleep in bed with her people, the crate gives her a cozy space of her own in a busy multi-dog home. She may cry briefly at first, but settles quickly and adapts well. Over the holidays, Paisley met a large extended family, including kids ages 10 and 11. She was initially nervous but warmed up quickly and did well with everyone. She can be a bit mouthy during play, so she may not be the best match for toddlers, but she would do well with older children. Paisley has a moderate energy level with a playful, puppy-like side. She enjoys running laps in the yard, going for long walks, and indoor playtime, but she’s just as happy cuddling and relaxing with her humans. Her leash skills are getting better; she just needs more practice and a short leash. She does well with a shorter leash where she’s made to stay next to you. Otherwise, she’s just a curious girl who wants to explore. One important note: Paisley is a bit of an adventure-seeker! She can be a flight risk, not out of fear, but curiosity, and will dash out the front door if given the opportunity (as many dogs do). Her foster mom has begun working on door-boundary training, and she’ll need a family that’s mindful and consistent about safety. We think Paisley would do well as an only dog, soaking up all the attention, or paired with a compatible pup playmate. She’d also be a great candidate for doggy daycare to continue her socialization. She has a flexible play style and does well with a variety of dog personalities.  This adorable girl is ready to bring joy, laughter, and lots of snuggles to her forever home. Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  8 lbs (should be 10-11 lbs at full weight) APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 10 -12 mos old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425.00 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/will be spayed and microchipped LOCATION: Herndon, VA     FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that primarily adopts to families in the DC Metro area. January 11, 2026, 9:29 pm
