Story
Meet Shaggy...One of the Scooby Doo puppies! Shaggy's story began on Kelly Mountain in Logan County, West Virginia, where he, his mom, and two brothers were found abandoned by a group of hunters far from any nearby homes. When the hunters stopped, the little family immediately approached them, friendly and social, leading us to believe they once belonged to someone and were intentionally left behind. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and took the family into her home until rescue help could be secured. Because of her compassion, Shaggy got the second chance he deserved. His mom and brothers have all been adopted, so now it’s Shaggy’s turn. For the past few months, Shaggy has been in his local foster home, living as part of a busy family. He's being fostered with a mom and dad, two children, two adult dogs, and has frequent toddler visitors from the 3-year-old grandson. He loves kids and is very gentle and affectionate with them. He would happily spend his day being held or included in whatever his people are doing. Shaggy has great house manners - he is crate trained, potty trained, sleeps through the night, and is not destructive. He has moved beyond the baby puppy stage now. He's a naturally happy boy who enjoys the company of other dogs and loves spending time with his family. Like many young dogs, Shaggy is still working on his leash manners and social skills. He can be barky when meeting some new people or dogs while on leash, though it's intermittent and situation-dependent. We had a trainer evaluate him, and he feels Shaggy simply needs more exposure to new environments outside the home to continue building his confidence. His foster family has been working with him consistently, and he's already making progress.  We believe Shaggy's ideal home would include another confident, social dog to be both a playmate and a role model. He would likely do best in a suburban setting rather than a busy urban environment. This sweet boy is ready for a forever family that will continue helping him grow while giving him all the love of family. ❤️ Apply today ! BREED ESTIMATE: Feist or Terrier Mix (his brothers were part Beagle) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~ 29 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  6 months old COAT TYPE:  short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Vienna, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. Story
Meet Forever Love aka Lovie, a happy-go-lucky 6-month-old puppy who's embracing everything puppyhood has to offer! She's full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy, always ready for her next adventure. One of her favorite things in the world is being outdoors. Whether it's a long walk or a trip to the park for a game of fetch,  she's happiest when she's exploring and playing. She's become quite the fetch enthusiast and loves chasing after a ball. She's still working on bringing it back every time, but she's making great progress and learns quickly with encouragement and consistency. After a day of fun, she's all about cuddles and relaxation. She loves being close to her people and has a talent for falling asleep in the funniest, most adorable positions once she's comfortable. Like any young puppy, she's still learning the ropes. She's currently working on her potty training and basic manners and will thrive with a family committed to continuing her training and helping her grow into the amazing dog she's destined to be. She absolutely loves people and gets along well with other dogs, though she prefers to take a moment to assess new canine friends before jumping into play. Because she's still young and excited about life, she can be a little exuberant when meeting people. Her ideal home would be with an active family or individual who enjoys spending time outdoors and can provide plenty of exercise, playtime, and enrichment. A fenced backyard would be a dream for endless games of fetch, but she'd also make an excellent walking, running, or hiking companion for those on the go.  With patience, consistency, and lots of love, this sweet girl will blossom into an incredible lifelong companion. If you're looking for a happy, affectionate, adventure-loving puppy to grow with your family, she may be the perfect match. Adoption Day: June 20th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may be part of the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2639047##

Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 15 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 1.5 years -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Molly also did well meeting some of our neighbors, including few dogs. No wagging tails or proactive sniffing, but polite and cautious greetings. -KNOWN WITH CATS: unknown -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Same with neighborhood kids - very cautious and jumpy with sudden moves and noises, but no aggression. Molly has started to open up more towards our kids, and even jumped into our 7 yr old's lap the other day. She still doesn't play with the kids and ignores them most of the time (she prefers me and my husband), but will sit for her treats and won't say no to a few scratches and pets. -KNOWN CUES: Molly knows now the command "sit", and knows to sit and wait for her meal. We are working on "stay" now. -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: housebroken. Good in crate during day. Working on not whining at night but she's improving. May have some excited pee that she's working on! -KNOWN LIKES: following her person around -KNOWN DISLIKES: loud noises, new things! Will need help continuing to socialize. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Molly is coming to HT from a rural VA shelter. Her elderly owner could no longer care for her. Notes from the foster: Molly is a pretty calm, dog. She occasionally house outbursts of energy but nothing crazy! She enjoys going on walks and being with her people. She would be a good fit for someone home more often than not since she does bark and have a touch of separation anxiety (barking). Story
Meet Madison   This adorable little Chihuahua mix came from a hoarding situation, but was fortunate to be rescued while still a pretty young pup. At one point, Madison's owner had 51 dogs living in a small trailer. Thankfully, concerned family members stepped in to help address a situation that had gotten out of control, and the number of dogs has since been significantly reduced. Worthy Dog became involved through one of our veterinary partners. We sponsor the spay/neuter clinic that has been altering the dogs at no cost to stop the cycle and prevent the population from growing. So far, we've also welcomed four dogs from the property into our rescue, and other other SC based rescues have stepped up to help.  Despite her difficult start, Madison is an incredibly sweet, happy, and resilient little dog. Her foster mom, Renee, describes her as a loving snuggle bug. When Madison first arrived, she spent a couple of days tucked safely in her crate while she took in her new surroundings. Once she realized she was safe, her personality quickly began to emerge. She now follows Renee everywhere, loves to snuggle, and enjoys spending time with her foster siblings. After arriving in foster care in late May, she has continued to gain confidence and has even started playing with Ryder, one of the resident dogs. Madison has a moderate energy level and enjoys a good balance of playtime and relaxation. She gets especially excited when her people come home, greeting them with happy zoomies, jumps, and tail wags before settling in for a nap. Like many dogs who have had limited life experiences, Madison is still learning about the world. New people, sudden noises, and unfamiliar situations can be scary for her. She is cautious around strangers and the grandkids when they visit, and may retreat when visitors arrive, but with patience and encouragement, she continues to build confidence and recovers more quickly from these experiences. Because of this, she would do best with adopters who understand that confidence-building is a process. She's also making steady progress with her leash skills. While walks can still be intimidating at times, she is becoming more comfortable and continues to improve daily. Madison is doing well with housetraining and succeeds when kept on a regular schedule. Her foster mom takes her outside frequently, waits for her to do her business, and rewards her with praise, which Madison responds to very well. Madison is smart, responds well to guidance, and is adapting remarkably quickly to the structure and routine she's never had before. She is crate trained and settles nicely after a brief protest. She loves being close to her people and has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate companion. This little pup has come so far in such a short time. With a little patience, consistency, and love, Madison will reward her forever family with loyal companionship, endless affection, and plenty of cuddles. ❤️ Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 13 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2 years old COAT TYPE:  Medium flowy coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Fairfax, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Lainey. This adorable little Chihuahua mix came from a hoarding situation but was fortunate to be rescued while still a young pup. At one point, her owner had 51 dogs living in a small trailer. So far, we've welcomed four dogs from the property into our rescue, and other South Carolina rescues have stepped up to help as well. Despite coming from a dysfunctional environment, Lainey is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and resilient little dog. Her foster mom describes her as the ultimate snuggle bug. Whether she's curled up in a lap, sitting beside her person, or perched on the back of the couch with her head resting on your shoulder, Lainey always wants to be close to the people she loves. Like many dogs who have lived in a large group with limited resources, Lainey takes a little time to trust new people and environments. When she first arrived in foster care, she preferred to hide and observe from a safe spot. Once she realized she was safe, however, she quickly bonded with her foster mom and became her constant shadow. She is still cautious around strangers and the grandkids when they visit, and may retreat when visitors arrive, but her confidence continues to grow with patience and positive experiences. Lainey is crate trained, does well with housetraining when kept on a regular schedule, and has Ok leash skills. She is new to leash walks, and her foster mom is practicing leash walks in a fenced yard. She does enjoy exploring new scents, though unfamiliar people and dogs can make her nervous. When she feels unsure, she looks to her person for reassurance. Because of her background, Lainey has some food guarding behaviors around other dogs. She is currently fed separately and does very well with this management. We believe much of this behavior stems from having to compete for resources in her previous environment. She has made progress in foster care, and it's not an issue with treats, but her adopters should be prepared to continue managing mealtimes and helping her learn that food is plentiful and secure. Lainey gets along with other dogs overall and is a more confident member of the pack in the home. She would likely do best with adopters who can provide clear boundaries and structure while continuing to build her confidence. Beneath her cautious exterior is a loving, loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. With patience, consistency, and understanding, Lainey will reward her forever family with endless affection and devotion. If you're looking for a tiny shadow, a professional cuddler, and a devoted best friend, Lainey may be the perfect match for you. Story
**NEEDS FOSTER** Meet Wilson! This adorable young pup came into rescue after living with an elderly owner who was no longer able to properly care for him. Wilson is now safe in foster care and looking for an active forever family that can keep up with his zest for life. Wilson is everything people love about puppies - playful, curious, affectionate, and full of personality. He approaches every day with enthusiasm and excitement and is always ready for his next adventure. His foster mom describes him as incredibly smart, very entertaining, and definitely a bit of a handful in the way that only adolescent puppies can be. Wilson is a high-energy pup. He loves to play, explore, and stay busy. Because of this, we strongly feel he would thrive in a home with another young, playful dog who can help burn off some of that energy. He loves canine companionship and would enjoy having a buddy to wrestle, chase, and play with. As far as his house manners, he is making good progress with housetraining. Early on, he showed some excited or submissive urination, but this has improved significantly in foster care. He is crate-trained and keeps his crate clean when his foster parents are out of the home. While he may protest for a few minutes when first crated, he settles down and relaxes once he realizes it's time to rest. On walks, Wilson is generally well-behaved and enjoys exploring the world around him. He can be a little unsure when meeting new dogs and may need a moment to warm up, but he gains confidence quickly and looks to his people for reassurance. Like many adolescent dogs, Wilson is still learning what belongs to him and what doesn't. If left unattended, he'll happily investigate coffee tables, towels, clothing, and anything else that looks interesting. In Wilson's mind, everything is a toy. The good news is that he's very smart and responds well to correction and guidance. This type of behavior is very normal for a 7- to 8-month-old puppy and will continue to improve with training, structure, and maturity. Once he's had plenty of exercise and playtime, Wilson reveals his softer side. He loves to snuggle, enjoys burrowing under blankets, and is more than happy to curl up next to his favorite people. Despite his busy nature, he's a small dog who enjoys affection and wants to be part of the family. Wilson is looking for adopters who understand puppy behavior and are ready to provide structure, training, exercise, and plenty of opportunities for play. In return, he'll bring energy, laughter, companionship, and endless entertainment to your home. If you're looking for a fun-loving young dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Wilson may be the perfect addition to your family.  We need a foster or an adopter to bring Wilson to town. Foster-to-adopt is an option, too! Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Terrier/Chi Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 17 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~6 months old COAT TYPE:  Short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Charlotte, NC - Needs a foster to come to the DC metro FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.
