Story
Jack is an adult German Shepherd who likes to go on walks, play fetch and be with his people. What more can we say? When Jack originally came into our program, he was having pain issues with his back legs. We don’t know if it was from a prior injury, but he would get uncomfortable with being handled, predominantly in the back legs. Once we realized the issue, we placed Jack on mild dose of anti-inflammatory and pain medication. Since on this regiment, Jack has turned into an affectionate and playful dog. Well unless you are a vet, then he gets a little persnickety. He enjoys time out on his walks, he likes to play with his soccer ball and otherwise just hanging out. If you are at the far end of a field, Jack will come sprinting back to you. While it might take a week or so, Jack will bond closely to any new owner. Jack is trust-worthy in the house and healthy. He had a few rough stretches along the way, including losing part of his tail, and recovering from being attacked by another dog. He handled both in stride. For the most part, Jack has a live and let live attitude towards other dogs, though he would be best in a home as the only dog. In one foster home, there was a cat, and Jack was a little too interested. When Jack first arrived, he did live in a home for a week with a rather rambunctious 7-year-old boy without any issue. However, since he did have two bites when he was going through his painful period, we believe to be cautious, it would be best if no children are living in the home. If you are interested in adopting Jack or finding out more information, please send us an email at contact@sedonashepherd.com. We believe Jack is about 8-9 years old. You can fill out an online adoption application. Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary's mission is to rescue adult and senior German Shepherd and Shepherd mixes and find them loving homes.  All of our dogs are fully vetted and up to date on all their shots Our adoption area includes New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Manhattan, Southern New York and Eastern Pennsylvania.  We may adopt to Connecticut depending on circumstances.  Please visit our website at www.sedonashepherd.com. Story
In the short time that Van has been with us, she could surely tell a few good stories. After her little two-week adventure, Van has settled into our program and is excitedly waiting to find her new forever home. Van is a 6 year-old female German Shepherd. She is a medium sized shepherd about 65 pounds. This little love bug will bond quickly with any new adopter. She has a playful side about her and is extremely affectionate. Sedona rescued Van from Philadelphia shelter a few weeks before Christmas. Her owner had passed away and she was being kept outside in a nearby lot before neighbors brought her to the shelter. Her many different expressions keep all of us smiling. Van has spent time in a foster home with two other German Shepherds and enjoyed playing and a little rough housing. Having said that, she also liked that her buddy was otherwise chill. She seems to prefer dogs that are respectful and slowly introduce themselves to her. Van is healthy, current on all her vaccinations and spayed. If you are interested in finding out more about Van, please email us at contact@sedonashepherd.com. Although not required, preference will be given to owners with a fenced in yard. Based on his activity level and temperament we feel she could live in a home with older children. If you are interested, please fill out an adoption application. SNOW WHITE Age: ~ 7 to 8 Years Sex: Female Size: Medium Good With Dogs: Dog Dependent Good With Cats: No Good With Children: Yes Meet Snow White, a fun loving and energetic adult German Shepherd. Snow White is in our foster program and when she isn’t taking long care rides, she is out and about on walks and meeting new people and making new friends. She is fluffy, funny and full of love and joy. Snow White is about 60 pounds and is looking for her forever home. She knows some basic commands, is trustworthy in a house and has spent most of her time around adults and a few visits from younger children. If Snow White is over stimulated, she may be too rough for other dogs. While she has played with some dogs, she can be a bit temperamental with others. Snow White will be a great addition to any home without other animals. She can be easily entertained with toys, walks, or just hanging out. For more information on Snow White please reach out to us at contact@sedonashepherd.com or fill out an online adoption application. Story
Age: 4.5 Years Sex: Female Size: Medium Large Good With Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: No Good With Children: Yes Amber is a sweet, mellow purebred German Shepherd who was born on Mother’s Day 2018. She has only lived with adults, however she frequently interacts with extended family members of all ages from toddlers to older adults, always presenting as sweet/gentle. For the first 2-3 years of her life she regularly visited the dog park and still gets excited when she meets other dogs on the sidewalk. She has no history of biting, aggression, or even growling towards another animal or human. She is currently is being fostered in North Jersey in a home with two adults and a younger GSD who she gets along wonderfully with.  Her overall health is good and she is up to date on all vaccines, but she does have 2 medications that need to be administered for her lifetime due to allergies. She needs eye drops/ointment weekly and oral medication daily. Her medical needs are well maintained on her current medication regimen. Her allergies are environmental, not food related so she can be on any food/diet you like! She is very allergic to cats and cannot live in a home with a cat. Other than that, the vet’s only remark was that she could afford to drop a few pounds (which I think we can all relate to after this holiday season!) Although she is generally laid back, Amber can definitely be playful too.  She doesn't require too much activity, she's a happy camper with a local walk or a round of fetch and calling it a day. She always needs to be carrying a toy so be ready to find dropped toys all over your house and lawn. When playing with a canine companion, she usually waits for them to start nudging her and then will happily engage in a little friendly wrestling, often laying down in submission for the other dog to take over. Amber loves to be in the presence of others, but can also can be left alone for hours and does not become anxious or overly attached. When she goes potty outside, she must bring a ball out with her, but will quickly do her business and wants to come right back in to spend time with you. She's truly a sweet, loving lady who enjoys belly rubs and just wants to be in your company. She knows basic commands and was evaluated as a good candidate for further training by Maverick’s K9 in Bergen County if the next owner is interested. For more information on Amber please reach out to us at contact@sedonashepherd.com or fill out an online adoption application. Story
Spend any amount of time with Phoenix, and you will fall in love. This gentle and friendly female German Shepherd is a genuine Stoic. Phoenix takes what life has thrown her way in stride and keeps going. Phoenix dragged her back legs while walking down the street on her way to being surrendered to a local shelter. The person bringing Phoenix said he found her as a stray and had little information to provide the animal shelter. Once we met Phoenix, we experienced her perseverance and grace. Phoenix is in excellent health despite her limited mobility in her back legs. She entered our program in late April. Phoenix was evaluated by our vet and two orthopedic specialists. All agreed that the cause of the weakness in her hind legs was most likely a neurological issue. This was confirmed by a specialist who determined the cause of her leg weakness was neurological. Based on current information, surgery would not bring back any additional motor function in her back legs. However, we were recommended to have an MRI exam on her spine. Once Phoenix arrived, we tested her to see if she would be comfortable using a cart. As you can see, Phoenix is using her dog cart like a pro. Even without a dog cart, Phoenix is mobile with two front legs. She has learned how to get around a house and a yard. Phoenix is approximately five years old. Using a cart, Phoenix should be able to live out an expected lifespan for a German Shepherd. She is gentle when interacting with people, is curious about adult dogs, and has been in a home with two other adult dogs. Phoenix especially perks up around other dogs her size and age. Phoenix can be too focused on smaller, yappy dogs. Phoenix met kids and adults of all ages during one of our events. Phoenix is currently in a short-term foster situation. We would love to see her in a forever home or a longer-term foster. Please be part of Phoenix’s journey by donating to her GoFundMe page. We still need to raise funds for her MRI exam and to purchase her own cart. You can donate at Phoenix Rising. If you want to learn more about Phoenix and potentially foster or adopt her, please email us at contact@sedonashepherd.com or fill out an adoption application.
