Puffin is back on the market and looking for the right fit! This smart active girl has a lot of great qualities going for her:*The perfect size at under 45lbs full grown.*Very smart! Too smart actually, she craves structure and enjoys training and learning new commands and tricks and puzzle toys to keep her mind busy. *She was housebroken and crate-trained in her previous home*Loyal to a fault. Once she connects with her person she makes it her life's purpose to please them and keep them safe.*Likes car rides and loves hikes in quiet areas. And at first glance people will think she's some kind of dingo or wild dog if you run into anyone while alone in the woods with her. She looks like a mini shepherd/cattle dog type mix, but her DNA reveals she's actually 50% pittie, 42% husky, and only 8% German Shepherd. But the shepherd personality is definitely dominant: if you love shepherd but want a smaller sized dog she's perfection.She does have her challenges that makes her stay in the shelter particularly stressful for her, and we would really love for her to get into a home environment again as soon as possible. She gets reactive meeting other dogs and "puffs up" all the hair down her back like a hyena, barking and trying to scare them away. It's all out of fear, and she has had a dog friend or 2 in the past once slowly and properly introduced, so might be able to live with the right submissive male buddy with a few careful intros. But overall has been working to learn to ignore dogs on walks which is extra difficult in the shelter being surrounded by dogs she's afraid of all day long. She's also nervous and timid with new people and needs time to assess if she wants you as a friend. She does accept bribes of cheese and chicken if you really want to get on her good side fast. But she's better in a calmer adult home where she can be introduced slowly to regular visitors and doesn't want to be the life of the party. Adults only, fast movements and kids grabbing would make her too nervous. She's quickly becoming a staff and volunteer favorite with her gentle nature and intelligence and we know she has potential to be someone's very best friend in the right home! Meet staff and volunteer favorite Chance! This big "young senior" shepherd is a smart playful mushy guy, gentle and loving with people and craves attention. He loves his long walks and hikes and playing fetch in our fenced yards, and just hanging out leaning on you for pets. Chance clearly had a tough life was abandoned covered in old scars and suffering from a horrific abscess on his ear from years of chronic untreated infections. He's healed nicely although still needs regular ear cleanings and periodic treatments longterm. Otherwise he's in great health, a vibrant strong healthy guy. Brutus is a wonderful dog! Sadly his owners moved and thought they could put a fenced-in yard where they moved and because of neighbors and previous info on the deed were not allowed to. It was in tears that they surrendered him. He is full blooded and had papers. He is definitely deserving of a great home. He was in a home with a couple of smaller dogs and a number of cats. He is warm and affectionate. He is an intelligent dog and would make a great companion for any German Shepherd loving person. Aria, Bastian and Bailey are 10-week-old (est DOB 10/29/25) , beautiful shep mixes pups that were born in a drainage pipe. Thanks to some good Samaritans, these babies were able to safely be retrieved. Unfortunately, a wrecker yard owner nearby claimed mom and refused to let us help her too, but they did agree to let us take the puppies. The laws of Texas are definitely unfair. The mom appeared to be a sheepdog mix; dad is the milkman. We believe they will stay under 60 lbs once full grown as their paws are not super big. We do not know if there were more puppies or what happened to them. The 3 pups that the good Samaritans were able to find, have been to the vet and are quite healthy! Aria -Female – Brindle/Black – 8.6 lbs as of 1/6/26 Bailey – Female – Brown/Black – 9.8 lbs as of 1/6/26 Bastian – Male – Black/Brindle – 13.4 lbs as of 1/6/26 These pups are fun, full of life and looking for their future adventure partners. They absolutely love their toys! They would love a whole toy basket of their own. LOVE other dogs and very sociable. They have the best personalities and are all around love bugs. They would make ideal dogs to go to dog parks, doggy daycare and just be around all sorts of dogs with no issues! Once they’re done playing, they love to cuddle. Working on house training and will master it with time. They are VERY smart dogs, be careful! They’ll outwit the best. These furbabies are quite active and would do best in a more active home. They would be WONDERFUL with children. SUPER Playful Gentle Very Happy Loves everyone and everything Curious Smart Affectionate Adventurous If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, friendly, gentle, super playful, adventure buddy, please consider adopting one of these babies. These 3 pups will be: current on Bordatella, have at least 2 sets of parvo/distemper vaccinations, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, dewormed, microchipped, negative fecal, have a clean bill of health from the veterinarian prior to adoption and includes transport cost from Texas to the East Coast. Princess is an approximately 3 year old spayed female shepherd mix that desperately needs a home. Her owner was unable to continue to feed her, and a neighbor stepped up to help care for Princess but they are not able to care for her long-term. Princess is good with other dogs, and after having multiple litters of puppies before getting spayed, she is very maternal. She is friendly with strangers but will let you know when they come into the yard! Princess appears to be house-trained and is non-destructive when she comes inside the house at night to sleep. Once she knows where “home” is, she is not one to wander and sticks close to where her people are. Princess is fully vaccinated but is unfortunately heartworm positive.
