Story
Tessa has been a beloved part of our family since she was a puppy. Now 8 years old, she’s a steady, intelligent German Shepherd who deserves a peaceful home where she can truly thrive. As much as it breaks our hearts, the reality is that with our growing family and increasing work demands, we can no longer give Tessa the calm environment she needs. She is anxious around small children, and our busy household has become overwhelming for her. Tessa urgently needs a quieter, child-free home with someone who understands the loyal and sensitive nature of her breed. She is deeply loving, independent, and playful when she feels safe and at ease. While she’s not a lap dog, she forms strong bonds and wants nothing more than to be near her people. We are desperate to find her the right match—someone who will give her the time, patience, and companionship she deserves in her senior years. Tessa still has so much love and loyalty to give.

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Baxter If you’re looking for an easy going, fun loving, people person pup, Baxter is your guy! He loves to be a part of everything, and will follow everyone, galloping along with his lanky caribou/ rabbit like gate. Once he catches up, he will shower you with puppy kisses and sit on your feet. Although he has a stub tail, it wags all the time! Baxter is a growing boy who just wants to be apart of the fun. He is a sweet pea who wants all the love and cuddles you have to give. He is about 3 1/2 months old, and about 13 lbs. Once he grows into his feet, he is estimated to be around 50ish pounds. He is very mixed, mom and dad’s breed are unknown. Baxter is doing well with crate and house training. He has also been sleeping through the night! Interested in cats in a playful, not harmful, kind of way. He is a very gentle pup, and is young enough to learn to be gentle with children. He is good with other dogs.  Neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. In New England To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any details questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Charlotte the German Shepherd mix…what a beauty! Here’s info from her foster mom- Charlotte is a very sweet dog. She gets along with all the other dogs in the house. She has seen the cats and is curious but just watches them. She is not much of a barker. She loves to be right next to or in your lap. I believe she will be just fine as either an only dog or with other dogs. She likes to be your shadow and follow you everywhere you go but she is good when left home alone. She does great on a leash. There have been no accidents in the house since she got here. We are working on her manners of not jumping on me when I am eating. She knows some basic commands and has caught onto the routine in the house very quickly. She is a smart girl who is eager to please her human. She is about 2 years old and about 45-50 pounds.  She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. In New England. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Yet another adoption return. Cormac was adopted from us in Oct 2023. He is a great, loving dog. He is good with our other dog and cat. (He does chase the cat)He just turned 2 years old and is a poodle Shepard mix( though he looks like a Irish wolfhound) He is crate trained, and housebroken. He loves to play fetch. He currently lives with a newborn baby and a toddler and he is wonderful with them. Cormac is being returned because he has become overprotective of his family. True to hos German Shepherd heritage, he thinks it is his job to protect. His family doesn't have a physical fence, and he has begun to break thru the electric fence when the neighbors get too close. This is causing problems with the neighbors. He follows commands but has become so protective of the yard that he ignores commands at times. He would do best with someone who has the time and can commit to continue to train him and provide a routine, he is not overly energetic but certainly is always willing to hike, run and play. I believe he needs more exercise than he is getting currently, which could help with these behaviors. He definitely needs a home with an actual fence. Cormac is located in New England To apply: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059For more info, email apps.aasr@gmail.com  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.6/16/25 Meet Jean! She is a mid sized mixed breed lady who is a young adult/older puppy. She weighs about 38 pounds. She is friendly, sweet, and enjoys playing with other dogs. We have listed her as a Shepherd/Lab mix however that is purely a guess. If a DNA test was done, I can almost guarantee it would show that she is a mix of many breeds! We pulled Jean from a local shelter where she very likely would have been euthanized due to space as she was at a high kill shelter.  Thankfully we had spots open at the Arkansas Paws in Prison program, so we were able to pull her and place her at Paws in Prison.    Since she was pulled from a shelter, we do not have a lot of background/info on her yet but we will continue to update this post as we receive more details and info from her trainers at Paws in Prison she began at Paws in Prison on 6/6/25 so she will graduate the week of August 4th. We hope to have a home ready and waiting for her at that time!   Paws in prison is an amazing program where dogs are paired with inmates whom they are with 24/7 for 8 weeks. The inmates work with the dogs everyday on basic training, basic obedience, house training, leash training, etc. and even some tricks! They meet weekly with a certified dog trainer. This is a wonderful program and so beneficial for the dogs and the inmates!   Stay tuned for more details on Jean! She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.  Harrisburg, PA 2am Fridays Port Jervis, NY 5am Fridays  Southington, CT 8am Fridays  East Hartford, CT 11am Fridays  To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!October 14, 2024, 6:08 pm
