Story
Tessa is a cherished part of our family and has been with us since she was a puppy. Now 8 years old, she is a loyal and steady German Shepherd looking for a new home where she can enjoy a quieter pace of life. As our family has grown and our professional commitments have increased, we've realized that we can no longer give Tessa the time and environment she deserves. She is nervous around young children, which makes a busier household challenging for her. Tessa would thrive in a calm, small child-free home with someone who understands the unique qualities of the German Shepherd breed. She is loving, independent, intelligent, and playful in the right setting. While she is not a cuddly dog, she enjoys companionship and being near her people. We are seeking a home where Tessa can be appreciated for who she is and enjoy her senior years with comfort and care. She still has so much to offer and will make a wonderful companion for the right person.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!October 14, 2024, 6:08 pm

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 5/5/25 Baxter This little guy and his siblings were found on a secluded road, where they had been dumped with a little towel to lay on. Little babies dumped out there alone, with no houses nearby, and very little chance of surviving. Thankfully, someone did see them. They stopped and checked on them, but could not take them in, so they left them there too. But they did reach out to us, and one of our amazing fosters went and found them. They were rescued Easter weekend, so they were dubbed 'our Easter Dumplings.' These babies are so friendly and sweet natured. They ran to the rescuer when she stopped her car, as if they were begging for help. Begging to live. We don't know what breed they are, but they appear to be a mix of many breeds. They will likely be average size (50 ish lbs). Some have nub tails, some have 3/4 tails, and some have full tails. We don't know what that's all about. Baxter has a nub. They are now up to date on vaccinations, started on monthly preventives, and will be spayed/neutered this week. They are about 3 months old. They didn't ask to be born into this cruel world, but they are here now, so it's our job to make sure they are loved for the rest of their lives. Please consider one of these babies for your family. You won't regret it! Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Yet another adoption return. Cormac was adopted from us in Oct 2023. He is a great, loving dog. He is good with our other dog and cat. (He does chase the cat)He just turned 2 years old and is a poodle Shepard mix( though he looks like a Irish wolfhound) He is crate trained, and housebroken. He loves to play fetch. He currently lives with a newborn baby and a toddler and he is wonderful with them. Cormac is being returned because he has become overprotective of his family. True to hos German Shepherd heritage, he thinks it is his job to protect. His family doesn't have a physical fence, and he has begun to break thru the electric fence when the neighbors get too close. This is causing problems with the neighbors. He follows commands but has become so protective of the yard that he ignores commands at times. He would do best with someone who has the time and can commit to continue to train him and provide a routine, he is not overly energetic but certainly is always willing to hike, run and play. I believe he needs more exercise than he is getting currently, which could help with these behaviors. He definitely needs a home with an actual fence. Cormac is located in New England To apply: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059For more info, email apps.aasr@gmail.com  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. Story
Kona is almost 9 years old in August, we rescued her at three from a very bad situation. Thus is scared of loud noises. Kona is on a special food for bladder stones and tends to have accidents as the stones cause her to pee. She is such a sweet dog it hurts my heart to have to rehome her but she needs to be in a home with no children as she gets jealous we just had a baby and she is not doing well with it.

These pups are in Palmyra, Pennsylvania too!

Story
Piper turned two in Dec 23. We were told she’s a Dutch Shepherd, but she may be mixed. She’s incredibly sweet, affectionate, and full of energy. She’s fully potty trained. She’s okay with cats and currently lives with a smaller dog, but she’s food protective, so they eat in separate rooms. She may do well with a calm, larger dog after slow introductions and proper boundaries, but we believe she’d thrive most in a home where she’s the only pet. She’s amazing with adults and older kids, though not the best fit for homes with small children. She’d love a big yard where she can run and play—she has so much energy and joy to share! We love her deeply, but our lease only allows one dog. We originally took her in temporarily for a sick friend, but her owner never returned. We’ve cared for her since, hoping to find the right home. It’s been tough, but we’re doing all we can to avoid the shelter. She deserves a happy, active home full of love, patience, and play.
