You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!July 23, 2024, 8:06 pm

Story
Murat is truly the sweetest big guy you will ever meet. We rescued him 2.5 years ago and he has been such an easy dog to care for. He's naturally loyal and listens well off-leash, and always turns heads when out and about. He is great with dogs, but if there are any kids around, he will always choose to play with them instead. He also absolutely loves to play in water, especially during the summer! He is looking for a home where he can collect sticks and belly rubs, but also have a quiet spot to take naps. He will be a great addition to any family, big or small!

Story
Hey there, my name is Ruth Ann! I'm a young Shepherd mix looking for a new home. I did not come to the shelter under the best conditions but they are working to help me heal and learn to trust. I am very shy but with some patience and TLC I warm up and I am very sweet. I would like a home that has experience working with under-socialized dogs. I ask any children in the home be over 13 years old due to my nervousness and fear of new people. I could get along with another dog with a proper introduction, and I have lived with others before. I am open to living with a cat with a slow intro as well. Once I come out of my shell I am very loving and would be a fantastic companion. If you think you could give me the home I deserve then come down and lets meet!---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Updated info as of 7/10/24:   This boy is a great dog who deserves a family of his own. He is the last of his litter available, even his momma is adopted! It's rare that the momma is adopted before all of her puppies are! Snoopy is AMAZING with all other dogs. He gets along great with every dog he has met. He just truly loves other dogs and prefers dogs over people! LOLIf you’re looking for a playmate for your current dog, he’d be an excellent choice. He is great with kids!Good leash manners!Enjoys car rides and rides like a good boy (usually)! My favorite….SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT Crate trained, almost house trained. Very close to being fully house trained!Loves toys. Typical puppy in that he wants to steal things like slippers, shoes, or socks from the laundry basket, though this is getting better. Very go with the flow personality/adaptable and forgiving. Up for anything. He is a medium-high energy dog. He doesn't need extreme amounts of exercise in a day, however, he needs a few good walks every day along with playtime. Once he's gotten some of his energy out, he will usually nap or entertain himself with toys. If you like to walk, jog/run, or hike, he'd be a great partner. Neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccines, on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.Estimated DOB 11/15/23), weighs about 50 pounds. I don't expect him to get a whole lot bigger, he may fill out a bit more. Probably 60-65 pounds once he's fully done growing. A DNA test done on one of his littermates shows 55% German Shepherd, 28% Staffordshire Terrier, 9% American Pit Bull, 5% Plott Hound, 2% Border Collie, 1% Chihuahua! He is a wonderful boy and more than ready to find his forever home. In New England. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. From Arkansas Paws in Prison Foundation- “Hush. Don’t say it. Not one word. That’s not why we’re ear. I mean, here. We want to concentrate on how cute, sweet and genuine Kuma is. All this adorableness, and he’s not even an earling yet. I mean, yearling. Kuma is only 6 months old. He weighs 30 pounds and is a mix of who the heck knows. Maybe some shepherd or lab or Hubble telescope. Just about anything is possible. We love this sweet guy and his extra large, over the top, might be a Guinness world record sized…heart. You thought we were gonna say ears, didn’t you? Nope. We’re not saying a word. Except that Kuma is magnificent!” Kuma was pulled from a kill shelter in the nick of time. He had been there too long and was in danger of being euthanized for space. Boy, are we glad we didn't let that happen! This little guy is just wonderful! He is housetrained, leash trained, good with other dogs, good with kids (even toddlers!), and loves everyone he meets! Kuma will graduate from Paws in Prison in mid August and we’d love for him to have an adopter ready and waiting! He is fully vetted (neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention). Please share! Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. Story
We are looking for a savvy German Shepherd dog owner to provide a loving and caring home for Maverick. Maverick is a sweet and loving animal who enjoys being outside and receiving attention from his owner and family. Maverick was surrendered by an owner who no longer had the desire or time for a dog in her life. Maverick is currently in a boarding kennel and socializes well with other dogs. He is a very quiet German Shepherd, though after a few days with us he has entertained us with yodeling when other dogs are being played with. He is a smart and loyal friend who does a good job of staying calm in various situations. We hope to find him an owner who is active and wants a companion who has excellent behaviors and advanced obedience, though a little rusty at this time. Someone please give this boy the love he deserves and he will serve you for life.
