Story
Honey is a 6-year-old retriever mix who’s basically a living marshmallow! She`s soft, sweet, and full of quiet charm. She may be shy at first, but with a little patience, Honey reveals herself as a gentle, low-key companion who adores calm walks, sniff-filled adventures, and peaceful downtime. She gets along with polite, gentle dogs and knows how to sit and walk nicely on leash, making her perfect for a calm home with older kids and maybe a respectful canine friend. If you have a cozy couch and the patience to let a tender soul blossom, Honey is ready to fill your home with quiet love and soft snuggles. If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York#Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #takemehome #adoption #rescue #rescueismyfavoritebreed #opttoadopt

Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! We believe Maggie lived a sad life of neglect, both emotionally and physically, but her gentle and happy Golden spirit shines through, and she is ready to enjoy her happiest years. As with most Goldens, humans are her absolute favorite thing, and she is smiling and happy with the attention she is now receiving every day. Estimated to be 10 years old, and underweight at about 50 lbs., Maggie spent much of her day, every day, confined in a crate in her former home. She would break out of it whenever she could, according to the family that relinquished her to a shelter. She lived with another dog in her former home and got along fine with that dog, but is a bit shy with dogs she has not met before, and cats are unknown to her. Maggie loves being near humans, including kids. She does not like being left alone, possibly due to being left in a crate, and she is dreaming of a home where she can be included with her people most of the time. If you understand and enjoy that wonderful trait of Goldens loving to be near their people, then Maggie may be your perfect match! She eats well and is being fed puppy food along with her kibble to help her gain weight. Treats are new to this sweetheart, and she loves them, so treats given in an open hand are best! She is house-trained and has had no accidents in her kennel. Maggie will love going for short walks to help build her strength, also a new experience for her. With good nutrition, we expect her coat to become full and shiny. Her eyes are already brighter, and she has a big Golden smile! Maggie had not been spayed and also came to us with a large, fatty mass on her side. Her fatty mass is benign and has now been removed, and she is recovering nicely from both surgeries. Maggie has also been vaccinated and microchipped and tested negative for heartworms (hooray!). She has been given a Proheart-6 injection, which provides her with 6 months of heartworm prevention. Maggie is well on her way to being a healthy and happy Golden, and all she needs now is to continue to be given the loving care we have started. She wishes for a home with humans who will value her sweet, resilient, and happy personality. She is a true example of what it means to rescue a dog in need, one who has never known how good a loved dog's life can be. If you would like to make Maggie's senior years her happiest, please ask about her. Maggie will be available to travel north to her home in mid-April. If you would like to give Maggie the loving home she deserves and you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Mary to be considered. If you are not yet approved, visit our website to fill out an application! Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! This lovely lady is as pretty as a picture and has a smile that lights up a room. Daisy came to our rescue when her dad was unable to find housing at the military base that allowed large dogs. Daisy was well cared for and well loved and is a bit confused about her circumstances, but she is ready to love again! If you looked up the word "happiness" in the dictionary, there might be a picture of Daisy next to the definition. Just look at that smile on her face!! And when Daisy gets to her forever home, she will be grinning far and wide! Super pretty and super sweet - she's the perfect package of fun and good looks! Daisy loves playing with toys, as you can see in her video! She is well-mannered, is house-broken, likes to ride in the car, and walks fairly well on a leash. Daisy is good with other dogs and loves all humans she meets. Daisy is thought to be a Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix of about 3 years of age. At 80 lbs, Daisy needs to lose a few pounds and would probably do best around 75 lbs. She has a beautiful, fluffy coat that you will love to pet. Daisy has been spayed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, and is heartworm negative. She has been given a Proheart 6 injection that provides 6 months of heartworm prevention. Daisy will be headed north to be directly adopted on 4/11/26. Please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt darling Daisy. Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Covey has spent his life as a beloved companion with the only family he has known. However, when the family's young daughter developed severe allergies, Covey and his canine sibling were relegated to spending most of their time outside, coming in only in the evening to sleep. Covey's mom and dad knew he needed a better life and made the heart-breaking decision to rehome him. Covey is a beautiful boy who has the kind of face that you could just picture on a box of dog biscuits! But he is more than just a handsome face; he is a wonderful Golden/Lab mix who longs to be the center of someone’s world, with a typical “love me” attitude. His dad told us that Covey is house-trained and sleeps in his crate at night. He is good with other dogs and grew up with 3 children. Dad describes Covey as a "very good boy who loves riding in the car with me." Covey is about 3.5 years old and weighs 67 lbs. Covey has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. Covey is under heartworm treatment and should be ready to go north to be directly adopted in mid-April. Covey has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention. If the companion you are hoping to add to your life is one that is affectionate, deeply trusting, happy, and loyal, then look no further - you've found him!!!
