This beautiful boy is Jesse and he's approximately 15 months old and fully grown at 45 -50 pounds. He's a gentle soul and as you can see in his photos, he has a beautiful golden coat. We think he's a Golden Retriever mix with some type of Shepherd mixed in (his ears are a give-away :) - the only thing we know for sure is he's a very sweet guy. He's living with a Foster family who have another pup who he loves to play and have fun with but he's more of the follower than the leader. There's not an aggressive bone in his body...he just wants to have a fun time and be part of what's going on. He gets along great with everyone he meets including kiddos but haven't tested him with cats yet. He loves to go for walks and enjoys relaxing in the evening and will curl up in his doggie bed while his Foster Mom watches TV. He's the type of pup who will thrive in a loving and mellow home and would love to be someone's companion or work from home buddy. We think he'd do well with a well balanced doggie sibling or as a solo pup if he gets exercise, love and attention. We also want him to have a fully fenced backyard so he can play and relax in the sunshine. He's healthy, neutered, chipped and up to date on all his vaccinations. Meet Braxton, a one year old, sixty seven pound Aussie Golden mix who is as gorgeous as he is goofy. Braxton starts every morning with enthusiasm for breakfast and his walk, and once he’s had his adventure, he’s happy to curl up for a long nap at home. Braxton is still exploring what the world has to offer. He loves being close to his people, enjoys running around and wrestling, and is trying hard to understand toys. He greets new people with friendly excitement and has gotten along well with every dog he’s met. He is reliably house trained and communicates when he needs to go out. Crates, however, are not his favorite place and is something he is working on. Braxton is practicing his basics and knows sit and come, but busy streets, loud noises, and tempting sidewalk trash can make it tough for him to focus. What Braxton loves most is simple: being with his people, taking long walks, and soaking up affection. His ideal home is active, patient, and ready for a dog who wants to be part of the action. Cooper - 3 years, 53lbs, Retriever/Aussie Mix, Neutered This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds. Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees?Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.
