Story
***Meet our next adoptable-- RIBBON!*** , Ribbon is a meat trade survivor, too! He has been at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter for ALMOST 4 YEARS now...We know you will love and support him the way you did for Caramel! Did you know some of my FB and IG Friends are starting a collection of pledges for me? It will be given to the rescue who pulls me for training or for any kind of support I need to be the best boy I can be!  If you'd like to pledge (**Please don’t send the money at this time, only send pledge amount), please contact my friend, Sue, at suled711@gmail.com She had collected pledges for Caramel, too!) Thanks to everyone who has donated and to my friends for gathering the pledges. &#226&#157&#164, RIBBON Ribbon is the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter's 5 1/2 year old, stunning, Retriever mix who came to them as a stray in November 2018. They later found out that the "finder" was in fact his owner who had adopted him from a local rescue. Ribbon is originally from the Chinese meat trade! It's a very sad story, especially because it ends with Ribbon at the shelter, but we know his story is still being written, and it can turn around for him any day now... We are just waiting for that perfect match to come find him. Ribbon is looking for a savvy owner, with adults only, due to his food guarding. He is also nervous when meeting new people. Ribbon is under-socialized with other dogs, so his ideal buddy would be an aloof or low-key friend. Ribbon loves treats and prefers to chill. We know his family is out there, so the shelter staff will continue to love on him while he is there, and hope his stay isn't too long! If you are interested in learning more, and getting the most up to date information on Ribbon, please contact the shelter's placement team in Wantagh, NY:May 31, 2023, 8:16 am

Story
Meet Amber! She is ready for adoption! She is a 3 year old golden doodle. She is up to date on shots and has just gotten spayed. She was shaved prior to arrival in NJ. There is a picture included of her before the shave. Amber is super smart! She’s loving and loyal. She is fantastic on a leash. Loves walks. She runs fast so a fenced in yard is a must. She is good with other dogs (must bring your current dog for the meet and greet) and kids. She does like shoes. She doesn’t eat them but when she is missing you, she will carry your shoes to her spot and she lies on them. She is completely housebroken. She is great going up and down stairs. Our family will definitely miss Amber but we know the perfect family is out there! If you are interested in meeting Amber please go to petresqinc.org to fill out an adoption application.  June 3, 2023, 1:39 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! 3/23/23 Foster Update: Mason has been doing well in his foster home. His foster mom talks about how sweet he is and how far he has come. He enjoys his Kong when they need to leave home and brings it to her when it's empty! Apparently Mason was trained not to go on furniture and made that known immediately. But when they return home, they could swear they see a dog shaped pattern on the couch! Mason has had little experience with other dogs and has been having meet and greets with a doggy neighbor. Although they greet each other by barking, they have been going on walks together and doing well. Mason continues to have trust issues and adjustment issues with change but he has come so far and will continue his work with a behaviorist. Mason's Story: Mason is a sweet-as-peaches purebred, 6-year old Golden Retriever. Being an "English Cream," he has that glorious soft white fur that begs for touching. Mason was recently surrendered to Sunshine because, having recently suffered a loss, his family no longer had time to properly care for him. Unfortunately, this led to Mason spending only 30 minutes each day outside, and being left alone in the house for upwards of 12 hours per day. During intake, Sunshine was told by Mason's owners that he was "fine" everywhere except for visits to the groomer and the vet, where he has a tendency to become extremely fearful. Sadly, we think that Mason’s trips were ONLY to the vet or groomer. When his foster Mom and Dad first went to take him to a local park, he refused to get out of the car. Now he brings them to the car just so he can go for a ride! Although he is getting better every day, when Mason first came to us, he showed his fear in the form of pancaking when being leashed, an extreme reaction usually seen in breeder dogs who have not been exposed to any type of enrichment - for those who have witnessed it, is truly heartbreaking to see. But through the love and patience of Mason’s foster parents, they are seeing this behavior less and less. Mason has a moderate energy level and loves people. He is a true Velcro Golden and just wants to be with his human. When Mason’s foster Mom lays on the floor to do her exercises, Mason loves to lay right next to her! And...Mason has discovered peanut butter gonks! When he finishes, he brings his Kong to his Mom as though looking for a refill. He also likes to carry one of his prized stuffies around the house. Because Mason can be protective of his toys, we are looking for a home with adults only (no children), who are experienced with rescue dogs and who will continue to guide Mason's progress with the services of a trainer or behaviorist. As his exposure to other dogs was limited in his former life, we feel it would be best that he live in a home as an only dog. Mason has not been tested with cats. Mason has come so far in such a short period of time. All he wants is his own people, patience and love. This handsome, loving dog is just beginning to experience the best of life. If you are rescue-experienced with no children and no other pets, and looking for a happy, loving companion dog to share your home, and agree to continue to work with a trainer or behaviorist, Mason might be the perfect fit for you. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. If you would like to be part of Mason's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Michelle to be considered to adopt Mason. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. SGRR ADOPTION FEES - Effective May 1, 2020 (subject to change) $750 Puppy - up to 6 months $650 Young 6 months - 6 years $550 Senior 7 - 9 years $450 Senior 10 years and older $550 Young Special Needs $400 Senior 7+ Special Needs $1000 Young Bonded Pair $900 Senior 7+ Bonded Pair A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
