Story
*I have an adoption pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need.* Chester is another pup that was turned into our rescue by a couple in MS who dabbled in backyard breeding. He is about 6 months old and is a beautiful red purebred Golden Retriever. He is a shy fellow and has done well being fostered together with Sunny. Therefore, the two dogs are to be adopted as a bonded pair. Chester has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and is heartworm negative. He weighs about 50 lbs and is still growing. He has been given a Proheart 6 injection that provides 6 months of heartworm prevention. Chet has an adoption pending but he hopes you will consider one of our other deserving dogs. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. Story
I have an adoption pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. This is Stella, a purebred Golden girl estimated to be about a year old. She came from the same breeder that our recent batch of older girls came from. Lisa (our lead volunteer in AL) kept sending pictures of the adopted dogs in their new homes to the breeder couple. The woman owned some of the dogs herself and we figure it must have touched her heart to see them living good lives. She turned in 7 young dogs that personally belonged to her. Stella is one of the ones who is most ready to come north. While the dogs all lived outside, they do not seem to have been abused, simply kept more like livestock than beloved pets. With that said, all of the dogs will need time to learn what living in a home is all about. Stella is very playful outside as you can see in her pictures but still unsure about being inside at the vet's kennel. Having a canine companion in the home is definitely a plus as these former breeder dogs learn more quickly from a resident dog. A fenced yard would be best for Stella. Stella is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm negative, and was given a Proheart 6 injection to cover HW prevention for 6 months. Stella keeps her kennel clean and only goes "potty" when let out in the yard. She weighs about 54 lbs and will be arriving in the northeast in mid-July. It is now time for Stella to know what it is to be a cherished companion! Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. Story
In early June, Brooke and Tillie arrived at the clinic in lower Alabama with the second group of seven Goldens relinquished by a puppy mill/dog breeder from Mississippi. Fortunately, the Goldens are now out of harm's way and receiving good care. However, damage has been done in forming their perception of people. But fear not, progress is being made! Trusting humans (for the first time in their lives) is developing for dear Brooke, and her fellow traveler, Tillie. Fast forward a bit and our volunteers note that Brooke now plays with Tillie out in the yard. Brooke loves to be petted and have her head stroked. She leans in for loving attention and delights in snuggles. A heartwarming development is seeing her tail wag, at last! Though timid, her playful side emerges, and she is extremely sweet and affectionate. Brooke is definitely the kind of dog who benefits from canine companionship. This beautiful girl will keep revealing her unique personality as she gets more comfortable in a new home. Tillie, another Mississippi breeder dog, has been more reluctant than Brooke to get close. In fact, she hardly moved upon arrival at the clinic the first couple of days. Of all the dogs relinquished by the MS breeder, she was the most shut down. She barely made eye contact and it was heartbreaking to see how resigned and depressed she was. Slowly, she has learned she’s safe in her surroundings, and, she has remembered how to play! She loves to run around the yard and even looks a little sly when playing “tag” with Brooke. In true Tillie fashion, she remains even-tempered and dignified, even when Brooke topples her! By far, of all the dogs rescued from Mississippi, Miss Tillie enjoys her treats the most. Her face lights up and she happily munches on biscuits and cookies! With patience, dedication, and unconditional love, Tillie will rebound (she’s already on her way) and will truly learn to trust people. Once she gets adjusted to her new home, she will know what it’s like to feel peace at last, and joy is sure to follow. (And, then, oh happy day: a wagging tail!) Because the girls have done so well in each other's company, we will place them as a bonded pair. Adopting a pair does not mean double the work. Sometimes two are easier than one as they keep each other company and occupied with playtime - and you get double the love and double the fun! They would do best in a quiet home with a fenced yard. The pair will be arriving in the northeast in mid-to-late July. It is now time for the girls to know what it is to be cherished companions! Brooke and Tillie are around 1 year old and are good with other dogs. Tillie weighs about 50 lbs, while Brooke is about 58 lbs. They keep their kennels clean and only go "potty" when let out in the yard. The girls are both micro-chipped, spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative.
