Story
This beautiful boy is Conor (aka Coconuts)! He's a Retriever mix who is 3 years old and fully grown at 60 lbs Conor is pure sunshine wrapped in fur — the kind of dog who greets every day with happy feet, a wagging tail, and a big smile. He gets so excited about walks, car rides, toys, mealtime, and especially morning hellos! This handsome boy has been with his foster family just a short time and is already making great progress. He warms up to people quickly, loves attention, and greets his humans with the biggest hugs (we’re working on turning those into gentle boops instead ). *Playful, goofy, and full of life * Loves toys — especially squeaky ones and balls * House trained and settling into a good routine * Crate trained, sleeps through the night * Working hard on leash manners — walks best with a harness * Dog friendly with calm pups, still learning about cats * Super smart and eager to please — learning new commands every day * Best suited for a home with kids 10+ who can handle his enthusiasm Conor truly just wants to love and be loved. He’s enthusiastic about life and ready to find a forever home that can keep up with his zest for fun while helping him continue to grow and shine. If you’re looking for a loyal, happy companion who’ll greet you every morning like you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him — Conor is your guy! Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get more info on him. We'd suggest you complete the Application on the LRH Rescue site as we think Conor is going to be a very popular pup!

Story
Allie is a beautiful & lovable Golden Retriever mix and has all the qualities that make her a wonderful pup and family member. She's just over a year old and weighs approximately 55 pounds. She has a loving and fun personality and loves everyone and every dog she meets. She has a rather submissive with other dogs preferring to be everyone's friend instead of being the show-off. Her favorite toys are her teddy bear and her ball that she loves to play with. She walks well on a leash and with some practice she'll be perfect. She also loves going for car rides. She's up to date on all her vaccinations, fully housebroken and crate-trained. In other words she's perfect and deserves a happy and fun family who will love her and take care of her forever. We think Allie would love to have a doggie sibling and would do best with a fully fenced in yard. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com or 516-459-3509) to get more info about her. We know she's going to be very popular so if you're interested in her we highly recommend you complete an Application that you'll find on the LRH Rescue website (LRHRescue.com)

Story
Meet Denny — The Sweetest Golden Retriever Looking for His Forever Family!   Name: Denny Age: 4 years Sex: Neutered Male Breed: Golden Retriever Color: Gold Weight: 31 kg Height: 66 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story Denny was rescued in February 2025 after being placed on the euthanasia list at a city shelter. He stayed at a private shelter for several months and moved to his foster home in June. Since then, he has blossomed into the most affectionate, people-loving Golden boy.   ‍‍‍ Socialization with People Denny is an incredibly affectionate dog who loves everyone — familiar people and strangers alike. • He leans in for pets, rubs against people, and loves belly rubs. • He is excellent with children under 13 and is comfortable being lifted or handled gently. • Even with new people, he often rolls over to show his belly. • He enjoys being near people during downtime, though he prefers sleeping alone. • He can be very enthusiastic — sometimes running in for hugs or kisses, which can surprise those not used to big friendly dogs! • No issues with baths, paw cleaning, or handling. He tolerates teeth brushing but isn’t a fan.   Socialization with Dogs Denny is friendly and polite with other dogs. • He approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs to greet and play. • He matches well with medium to large dogs and enjoys playful interactions.   With Cats • He watches cats with curiosity outdoors, but when guided by his handler, he follows direction well and continues walking. (He may be suitable for a cat home with proper introductions.)   Energy Level • At first glance he seems high-energy, but his stamina is moderate. • After 3–4 hours of outdoor activity, he often falls asleep as soon as he gets in the car. • During play with dog friends, he starts energetic but will bark to set boundaries when he becomes tired or overstimulated.   ‍ Walks & Outdoor Behavior Denny is a joy to walk. • He has plenty of leash experience and doesn’t pull. • He loves sniffing and will naturally slow down or stop to explore scents. • He becomes excited when he sees the leash — may jump or mouth the leash — so calming him before leaving the house is important. • He loves balls and toys; he can even find hidden balls in grass and often brings home any he discovers during walks!   Other Behaviors • No resource guarding toward people or dogs. • Rarely barks. • Calm in a crate and knows how to get in/out of the car by himself. • Sometimes refuses to get in the car after walks because he wants to stay outside longer. • Mostly potty-trained outdoors. • If he has stomach discomfort early in the morning, he will wake his person up to go outside — letting him out promptly helps prevent indoor accidents. • Occasionally gets soft stool after eating too many treats.   Denny Is Looking For… A family who loves Golden Retrievers’ affectionate, goofy, people-loving personality. Someone who enjoys outdoor activities, understands his excitement around walks, and can provide structure, companionship, and lots of love.   If you think Denny could be the perfect match for you, please submit an adoption application! Apply to foster or adopt: www.adoptmekr.org Please also visit our Facebook or Instagram. Currently in Korea — available for adoption to Canada/US ##2601080##

Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Murphy is a handsome 11-year old Golden Retriever who was lovingly cared for his whole life. Sadly, when his owner had to move to senior housing and was unable to bring Murphy along, he remained alone at his home for several weeks. During that time a wonderful community of friends and neighbors took care of Murphy until he became a Sunshine dog. They all grew to know and love Murphy during those weeks and there were many tears as they said farewell and sent him on his journey to his new life. Currently in foster care, we have learned that Murphy is a happy Golden who adores all humans, young and old, big and little. He recently met his foster's grandkids and played nicely with all of them. In classic Golden style, Murphy loves to be petted and has "the Golden lean" perfected, coming in close for pets. This gentle, good boy just loves being close to his people. Murphy enjoys his walks and walks nicely on a leash. In fact, he can be a bit stubborn if he decides he would like to walk farther by stopping until you continue on! He also loves his stuffies and will proudly present them to you. His foster mom shared, "He seemed to want to go out but it was confirmed when he started "talking" then came around the sofa with my gloves and headband in his mouth to bring them to me! What a hoot!" He eats well and, at 110 lbs, Murphy is a large Golden who could stand to lose a few pounds. Murphy can climb a few stairs and may eventually manage a full flight with some weight loss, regular exercise, and perhaps some supplements to aid his mobility. He needs a little boost to get into the car and rides well, although he does not seem to love car rides as some dogs do. We believe that sweet Murphy has lived a rather quiet lifestyle and was the center of his person's world. He does not appear to have much experience with other dogs or cats, and does not seem to need them at all! Thus, we believe he will be happiest as an only dog. His favorite things are his walks, his stuffies, and his human. A home where Murphy can spend the rest of his years being someone's special boy would make him so happy. With all the smiles he will bring you, you'll be happy too! Murphy is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and heartworm negative. While he does not take any medicine, it may be that joint supplements commonly given to older dogs may help him stay comfortable. This gentle, good boy is being fostered in New England and would love to meet you! If you would like to give Murphy the loving retirement home he deserves and you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Mary to be considered. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. Story
Alana came to SGRR when her former owner faced difficult economic times. Alana was left home most of the day with her brother, Ace, and received little mental or physical stimulation. Knowing she deserved better, Alana surrendered to our rescue and is ready to start her new life. This 4-year-old girl was born on 8/30/2021 and truly has a way of lifting your spirits just by resting her head in your lap. Her foster mom shares, "Alana is so much fun. She’s confident and playful. She will just walk up to Ace and take his ball, and they will sometimes play tug of war. She totally ignores his growling, protecting his ball. She loves to play and retrieve, as you can see in her video! They don’t lie next to each other or look for the other when they are gone. She also doesn’t seem overly interested in Maki (our resident dog), but she loves people and is cuddly when we sit on the floor. She loves to go for hikes in the woods, is easy to walk, and is very efficient on eliminations." Alana is about 4 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. This Golden Retriever/Poodle mix would make a faithful, fun, and devoted companion. She has the biggest heart and the sweetest disposition! She is very well behaved and is housebroken. Alana has been spayed, vaccinated, and tested negative for heartworm. She is in the northeast and ready to meet her forever family! If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered for Alana. If you are not yet approved, please visit our website to fill out an application!
