Story

Amos McCoy, an old name for an old man (think of the 1950`s/60`s TV program `The Real McCoys). Amos is the oldest dog we have inGDRNT care, not in longevity, but in age, he has been in GDRNT for over a year, but he is 11 years old. This guy came to GDRNT suffering from bad ear infections and some skin funk… we have been battling this with him and our veterinarian. He was sent to a specialist, who tested him and the results showed that he was allergic to most everything in the environment... And so he was started on allergy shots and different antibotics, but his ear infections did not get any better. Finally the Speciality Vet came up with an antibotic solution that was packed down in the ear canal. Took two rounds of packing the ears, and we started seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. As he started feeling better from the ear infections, we noticed that he was having trouble getting up after laying down, and we started him on some shots for his arthritis (the boy is almost bouncing now some times). There was also a suggestion that we change his kibble... which we have settled on a single protein (Salmon), gluten free, GMO free, low glycemic, no corn, soy, or wheat kibble. And he is doing SO-O-O much better. His ear infections are down to just some yeast, which we are dealing with with a high dose of probiotics. Like we said at the start of this, he is estimated to be 11 years old, which means that he came to GDRNT, potty trained, crate trained, with house manners, and pet friendly. And while he loves a nap, he does well with kids, big dogs, small dogs, and cats! Amos is available for adoption in the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex. Story

The magnificent, Great Gatsby. He is so incredibly sweet, truly the definition of a gentle giant. Meet Great Gatsby: 110 Pounds of Love, Legs, and Laughs! Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be entertained! Great Gatsby is a roughly 3-year-old, 110-pound Great Dane who firmly believes that life is one big party, and you are all invited. Gatsby is a professional love bug, full-time shadow, and part-time circus performer. His favorite hobby? Launching his stuffies into the stratosphere and attempting to catch them on the way down. His technique is questionable, his enthusiasm is unmatched, and the entertainment value is off the charts. And then there’s the zoomies. Imagine a small pony who has just discovered espresso. Now imagine that pony has absolutely no idea where its feet are. That’s Gatsby. His zoomies are a spectacular display of ungainly legs, questionable coordination, and pure, unfiltered joy. You will laugh. You will probably need to move the furniture. But underneath all that silliness is the sweetest, most affectionate boy you’ll ever meet. Gatsby wants to be wherever his people are. Bathroom? He’s there. Kitchen? He’s there. Couch? Congratulations, you’ve acquired a 110-pound lap dog who missed the memo about personal space. The best part? He’s not just a pretty face with a hilarious personality. Gatsby is: Neutered and gastropexied (his tummy has had its preventative safety procedure). Completely potty trained. Crate trained but we rarely use it Safe to leave unattended in the house. Non-reactive to other dogs on walks in the park. A world-class snuggler with an unlimited supply of affection. Great Gatsby is the whole package: goofy, loving, well-mannered, and ready to make someone’s life infinitely more entertaining. He doesn’t need a mansion, a yacht, or a roaring twenties party. He just needs a family to love, a few stuffies to launch, and a place to call home. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh every single day, keep you company through life’s big and little moments, and love you with every ounce of his enormous heart, Gatsby is your guy. Adopt Great Gatsby. Your heart will be full, your stuffies will be airborne, and your life will never be boring again!" Good on leash, 110#, completely housebroken, crate, trained, non-reactive to other dogs. He's met on leash on his walks, warms up to strangers, quickly, very quiet, good with children, cats unknown.
