Hey there, I'm Trooper, a curious and playful pup who's ready to take on the world with my new family! I'm a people-person, err, dog - I mean, I love everyone I meet and I'm super affectionate. I'm also quite the athlete, always up for a game of fetch or a good run. I'm still a baby, so I've got plenty of puppy energy to keep you entertained. Plus, I'm a smart cookie too, always figuring things out and making my friends laugh with my silly antics. I'm on the hunt for my forever home, so if you're looking for a loyal and loving companion who's also a bundle of fun, I'm your guy! Come and meet me and let's start our adventure together! Story
*PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org * Drake is loving life in his foster home, but now it’s time for him to find his furever family… We rescued Drake back in 2020. He is a 7 year old pup now and we guess he is a labradoodle mix. He was adopted a few years ago but recently, instead of contacting us to surrender the Drake back to us when they were unable to keep him, the adopter brought him to the shelter. Not only did they bring him to the shelter, they told the shelter to EUTHANIZE HIM!! Why? Because he is reactive/ doesn’t get along with small dogs, something they knew when they adopted him. Thankfully we were notified and able to get him back into our care quickly. He has been doing so well in foster and deserves to finally find the right people. Drake is a big boy (100+ pounds, but does need to lose some weight) and loves cuddles. He greatly enjoys long walks and car rides. He is super smart and food motivated. Drake is a go with the flow dude who just wants people to love. He would be best as the only animal in the home and with people committed to managing his reactivity. He is very easy to redirect with treats and will thrive with the right people. Drake is currently being fostered in Santa Monica, California area but can be adopted anywhere as long as you can come to SoCal and drive home. *PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org . Drake's adoption fee is $400*

Meet Gerrard — aka “Curious George”! Gerrard may be 10 years old, but don’t let that fool you — this 22-lb miniature poodle has plenty of pep in his step! Nicknamed “Curious George” by his foster, Gerrard is endlessly curious and loves exploring everything — both outside and around the house. His tail is always wagging, and his joyful spirit is contagious. Gerrard adores snuggling, happily takes himself on strolls around the yard, and makes friends wherever he goes. He’s especially fond of food, so the kitchen is hands-down his favorite room! Sweet, social, and full of life, Gerrard proves that age is just a number. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate companion who loves to explore and cuddle in equal measure, Gerrard is your guy.

Story
Meet Duncan! Duncan’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. When we saw him on social media listed for euthanasia due to severe skin issues, dental disease, and his age, we knew we couldn’t let that be the end of his story. We stepped in and brought him to CARES, where our team quickly realized he needed specialized dermatology care. At MASH, Dr. Ganz performed a full exam and biopsies, fearing possible autoimmune disease or skin lymphoma. Thankfully, the results came back negative for cancer and autoimmune disease — just chronic inflammation! With Atopica and medicated baths, Duncan’s skin is healing beautifully. It may never be perfect, but he’s feeling so much better and thriving every day! Duncan is a 9-year-old, 45-pound Lab mix with a heart as big as his smile — and yes, he really does smile! He’s sweet, loving, and full of playful energy. He listens well, aims to please, and adores being around people. Duncan shines as a family dog — gentle and patient with kids, loyal to his people, and always ready for fun. He loves chasing balls, carrying toys, and resting his head (or whole body!) right in your lap. If you’re looking for a joyful, devoted companion who will fill your home with love and laughter, Duncan is your guy!

Story
Meet Brownie – A Survivor Ready to Feel Love for the First Time Brownie has lived a life no dog should ever have to endure. Returned to the same shelter four separate times, always with many of the same injuries, he’s known more heartbreak and neglect than comfort and care. But thanks to our incredible community, Brownie’s story is finally turning a corner. We took Brownie in to give him the second chance he’s long deserved. After a full check-up, X-rays, and bloodwork, the truth of his past came to light: A bladder stone causing him daily discomfort An old pelvic fracture likely from as far back as 2021 Severe dental disease from years of neglect His body tells the story of pain. And his eyes tell the story of a dog who’s still learning what it means to be loved. But here's the beauty of Brownie: he’s still trying. He wants to trust. He wants to believe. And with time, patience, and kindness, he’s starting to open up—one gentle wag, one quiet nuzzle at a time. And the best part? Brownie is an absolute sweetheart. He’s gentle, affectionate, and just wants to feel safe. He gets along well with cats, children, and other dogs, though he may need a little time to warm up to high-energy male dogs. Once he’s comfortable, he enjoys their company too! Brownie is: Soft, sensitive, and slowly learning to feel safe Great with cats, kids, and most dogs Receiving the medical care he’s always needed Calm, quiet, and a perfect companion for a peaceful home Looking for a patient, loving family who will never give up on him Brownie also recently underwent Liver Shunt surgery and does require to be a prescription diet the rest of his life and have his liver enzymes rechecked often to make sure he liver is healthy! **Brownie would do best in a home with another dog that is confident and will help Brownie to transition into new surroundings. Brownie does have significant separation anxiety and this is something we are working on with our trainer/behaviorist. ** Brownie doesn’t need perfection—just someone who sees him, believes in him, and will walk alongside him as he heals, inside and out. Be the chapter in Brownie’s life where everything changes. Apply to adopt today.
