Story

Teddy is a beautiful, 2 year old, 38 lb. male labradoodle w' a somewhat sad history. 6 months ago he was found by animal control abandoned on the streets of Bakersfield. We have been his guardians since. Teddy is healthy, playful, house-broken, a good eater, not food aggressive, obedient, loves sleeping in his crate, is sweet & craves affection. Has had a lot of training & obeys the basics. Full disclosure: From his trauma, he is afraid of other dogs & can be reactive w' people – nipping & sometimes biting because he is anxious & insecure, but has proven to do great & not have these behavior problems in structured environments i.e. the ranch when we're away & in training sessions. Teddy needs strong leadership & structure; someone willing to work w' him to build his confidence. A patient, experienced dog person with a pack mentality. He has great potential w' the right person. Our amazing trainer Brett Endes, “Dog Savant” has offered to assist in the transition at no charge.

*PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org * Drake is loving life in his foster home, but now it’s time for him to find his furever family… We rescued Drake back in 2020. He is a 7 year old pup now and we guess he is a labradoodle mix. He was adopted a few years ago but recently, instead of contacting us to surrender the Drake back to us when they were unable to keep him, the adopter brought him to the shelter. Not only did they bring him to the shelter, they told the shelter to EUTHANIZE HIM!! Why? Because he is reactive/ doesn’t get along with small dogs, something they knew when they adopted him. Thankfully we were notified and able to get him back into our care quickly. He has been doing so well in foster and deserves to finally find the right people. Drake is a big boy (100+ pounds, but does need to lose some weight) and loves cuddles. He greatly enjoys long walks and car rides. He is super smart and food motivated. Drake is a go with the flow dude who just wants people to love. He would be best as the only animal in the home and with people committed to managing his reactivity. He is very easy to redirect with treats and will thrive with the right people. Drake is currently being fostered in Santa Monica, California area but can be adopted anywhere as long as you can come to SoCal and drive home. *PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org . Winston is a super fun and playful boy that found himself in a high impound shelter in Kern County. He is pure joy and will brings lots of shenanigans to a home. He will require an active lifestyle and dog socialization. Playdates are his jam and would do wonderful in social dog settings He is 1-1.5 years old and weighs 63 pounds. All dogs in our program are up to date on all their shots, spayed or neutered, and micro chipped. Our dogs are in foster homes which enables us to learn more about them in a home environment. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. An application, adoption fee and contract are required. Tammy is a beautiful 45 lb girl who just wants to be loved. She is 10 years old, and a lab/shepherd mix. She is very sweet, but shy. She is very loving, and will flip on her back for belly rubs! She also likes to plop herself down on the couch next to you and is an affectionate pup. She loooves her people, and everyone who as fostered her as fallen IN LOVE with her. She's a rescue favorite. Tammy loves treats and toys! Tammy is house trained, rides well in the car and walks nicely on a leash. She is so smart, and knows many tricks including sit, down, give paw, roll over, turn around. Shes so sweet and everyone who fosters her can't help but fall in love! She would do best as the only pet in the home. She is not reactive to dogs and has lived with them before, but has gone after a small dog on occasion.

Presley is an 8 year old, 18 lb maltipoo! He is friendly with people and is excited to meet new people and get pet. However, he can be nippy if someone reaches out to touch him and he didn't ask for it. People need to let him come to them when he wants pets. He gets along with other dogs and loves to play with them outside of the home (dog parks, on walks, on play dates), but needs to be the only dog in the household. Also, no kids for this guy. Presley really bonds to his people but needs to learn boundaries from the beginning. He is a very sweet and cuddly dog on his terms, hes house trained, and hes good on a leash. He just needs some boundaries in the home to help curb the occasional behavior issues

Princesa is a sweet and loving 12 year old Shih Tzu/Mini Poodle mix! She is very friendly with people, though seems to prefer women. She is a medium energy level. Princesa gets along with other dogs on play dates and dog parks, but would prefer to have her person all to herself when it comes to other dogs in the household. She loves to be on the couch with her person, and to just follow you around. She also loves her walks! Princesa is house trained, knows how to use a doggy door, walks well on a leash and rides well in the car. Shes a total sweetheart! She does have some minor medical issues: -she has a grade 3 of 6 heart murmur (she is not on any medications at the moment, but its something that needs to have an eye kept on it) -she had a canerous mass removed 1+ years ago. It was a kind that is local, almost never spreads, and we removed all of it. She has been fine in this regard. -She gets chronic ear infections and skin infections on her paws -She had a sensitivity to the tarter on her teeth. She just had a dental cleaning so it has cleared up, but she may need further dental cleanings in the future if the sensitivity comes back as the tarter does.
