Unfortunately, her owner was experiencing homelessness and knew she deserved more than what he could provide. Flo is a happy, playful, friendly girl. She’s well mannered in a home, house trained, and the type of dog that just fits in from the start. Flo is great with dogs and kiddos, but is seeking a feline free home. She’s a hefty 62 lbs but is a bit overweight. Meet Socks ❤️ Socks is a 1-year-old, 50-ish lbs, Lab/Shepherd mix who is learning that maybe—just maybe—people can be pretty great. When Socks first arrived, he was terrified. He flinched at touch, avoided eye contact, kept his tail tucked, cowered, and tried to disappear into the smallest hiding spot he could find. He was skinny, shut down, and landed on the euthanasia list at a high-volume shelter simply because his fear made it so hard for him to cope. We couldn’t let that be the end of his story. Fast forward, and Socks is discovering just how good life can be. He’s incredibly sweet, gentle, smart, and polite. He loves other dogs and really benefits from their confidence and guidance. He keeps his crate clean, appreciates his blankies and meals, and absolutely lights up when you tell him he’s a good boy. ❤️ Most importantly, Socks is learning to trust. He now takes treats from human hands, enjoys being touched, and is even starting to seek out affection. Watching him come out of his shell has been pretty darn amazing. Socks isn’t a social butterfly—yet. He needs a patient family willing to give him time, routine, predictability, and a calm environment while he continues to realize that the world isn’t such a scary place. In return, you’ll get a very special boy who is ready to discover just how much love he has to give. An established, confident dog in the home is preferred because Socks truly thrives with canine guidance. Socks has already survived the worst. Birdie is a 7 year old Shepherd mix that weighs around 50 lbs. She’s looking for an amazing forever family she can count on. Birdie was originally saved from a high volume shelter in Houston after being picked up as a stray at the end of January. She cleared a low grade heartworm infection and retired from street life. Now, she is a healthy, loving girl. She loves kids, rides well in the car, and is crate trained and housetrained. She has proven herself to be a good house guest. She thrives with solid leadership from humans, who she very much wants to please and learn from, and is a very smart, soulful dog. Birdie found a home for a few months with a single Mom new to dog ownership, but she was recently returned due to problems with pulling/leash walking and also her ability to jump her shortish (3-4 foot) fence in her curiosity/adventures. Birdie promises to keep all the unwanted little critters out of her forever family’s yard due to her chase/prey drive. Thus, we discourage a home without small furry pets or chickens, but Birdie does very well with other dogs with appropriate introductions. She also would not mind being a one and only. Birdie also walks much better on a leash with a good collar/leash set up and leadership, though she is also fine hanging out at home with her people and doing whatever they are. She does love a good bed and snuggle sesh! So if you have a decent fenced yard and love to give, please apply for this girl!
