Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Smokey is a beautiful black lab mix who came from our partner rescue in Louisiana and is now in a NJ foster home. Can you believe this  handsome boy was found on the streets?  He is doing great in his new environment, but is still shy around new people. Can you blame him?  With a few treats and belly rubs,  he gets over that. He shows his love through hugs and kisses.  He loves to play with other dogs, big and small. Smokey knows basic commands. He passed basic obedience and is working on his advanced commands. He knows sit, stay, heel, come and shake.  He's a good boy who sleeps in his crate at night.  He has been doing great with his potty training and we can now say he's officially potty trained!! When it comes to people, he's shy and needs a little time to get used to you before his true cuddle bug shines through. He’ll probably do best in a home without little kiddos, as sudden movements and high energy can scare him. All Smokey wants is to run in a fenced yard, ideally  with a canine friend.  He has a lot of energy, so an active family that also wants to do training or mental stimulation with him would be best.  After his bursts of energy,  he flips to full couch potato mode. Smokey  is fixed, up to date on rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccines. His adoption fee will be $450. How to Adopt Me! If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to wag-on-inn.com. To apply, click HERE or on our website, go to Adoptable Pets and Adoption Application. A Wag On Inn volunteer will be in touch soon! Foster Feature General Personality:    Smokey was initially very shy and timid, but after just a couple of days, his silly personality began to shine through. He is playful and loves to cuddle and give kisses. He will follow you room to room and likes to sleep at your feet or just be near you. He takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once he gets used to you, he does not want to leave your side! He loves playing with other dogs and they will wrestle and run around the yard. Afterwards, he becomes a couch potato and will happy flop down and rest. Daily Routine:   Morning walk and play in the yard around 6 or 7 AM follow by breakfast. Plays with his toys and with his foster brother after that or lounges around the house. We are going in the backyard every hour on the hour just to solidify his house training routine (he is 95% there!). Another play session in the yard around noon. Dinner around 5 PM, followed by an evening walk or backyard play session. Then Smokey likes to lounge on the couch until a quick potty break before bedtime! Is the dog housebroken? Yes Behavior Around Dogs, Cats, or Kids:  Smokey loves all dogs he has met so far. He loves to play in the yard with his foster brother. He is good at reading other dogs' body language; if they are done playing, Smokey will back off, and he takes corrections well. He has shown no signs of aggression at all, even when he is a bit nervous. He is good at sharing toys and playing tug, and will curl up in the dog bed or on the couch with his foster brother to sleep. I think Smokey would do best in a home with another dog, since he looks to my dog for comfort and confidence. If he is scared of going somewhere or doing something, I will just call my dog over and Smokey happily follows him. His foster home in Louisiana had rabbits and chickens. Smokey did not show any aggression towards them and has not shown any prey drive towards birds, squirrels, or rabbits since being in NJ  Smokey has not been around any children yet, and while I cannot imagine him showing any aggression, I think a home without small kids would be best for him, as sudden movements and high energy can scare him.  Energy Rating (1 = very high; 5 = very low): 4  Leash Walking Rating (1 = difficult; 5 = perfect): 3  Leash Behaviors:  We have not done too much leash walking yet since he is still a bit nervous, but have gone on some short walks in the neighborhood. He pulls a bit and can be startled by loud noises. We are still working on leash skills and confidence, but he is a good boy and eager to please. Crate Rating When Left Alone: Goes willing into the crate and stays calm Does the dog sleep through the night? Yes What makes him/her happy?  Smokey loves playing with other dogs. He loves running in the yard and playing with his toys. He loves treats and is very food-motivated. He has also shown excitement about walks. After he is done running around, he loves giving kisses and cuddles, and will follow you room to room. He loves belly rubs and ear scratches.  What makes him/her nervous or unhappy?  He gets nervous around loud noises and sudden movements. If he gets scared, he will often retreat to his crate or to a quiet room. Other Quirks:  Smokey passed basic obedience training with his foster in Louisiana. He knows sit, down, stay, come, heel, center, spin, roll over, and kennel to go in his crate. Since he is still getting used to us, he is not doing all of his commands right away, but has been great with sit, down, come, and kennel. Doing training/enrichment activities is good for him because it makes him think and has been helpful to building his confidence.  Current Walking Device: Regular leash and martingale collar Currently Eating: 1.5 cups of Purina Pro Plan chicken and rice formula in AM and PM  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2025, 9:14 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Vivenne "Vivi" is now in a loving NJ foster home. Meet Vivi – the sweetest most soulful girl you’ll ever meet. This beautiful 5-year-old chocolate lab/pointer/pittie mix (best guess) is pure love wrapped in a silky chocolate coat. Vivi weighs about 45–50 pounds, is 100% house trained, and is as close to "the perfect family dog" as they come. She adores everyone she meets and is kid, dog and cat friendly, making her an easy fit into just about any loving home. Vivi is incredibly affectionate and lives for snuggles and couch time with her people. She loves to be near you, happily curling up by your side or resting her head in your lap like the gentle, soulful girl she is. She rides beautifully in the car (the perfect backseat passenger) and walks like a dream on leash, always respectful of other dogs she passes. She has the cutest little quirks that make her extra special. She loves stretching into her “downward dog” pose, and when you come home or it’s time for a walk, she does an adorable little tap dance with her front feet because she’s just that excited to see you. It’s impossible not to smile when Vivi is happy. Vivi is truly the sweetest thing ever and is so ready to shower her forever family with love, loyalty, and cuddles. If you’re looking for a gentle, easygoing, snuggly companion who will be your shadow in the best way, Vivi might be your girl. Vivenne is fixed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. She is going through her heartworm treatment and will be available for adoption in January after she is altered.  Her adoption fee is $450.     Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Edith is with our rescue partner in Louisiana and can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. Edith is a very sweet and energetic young girl who is ready for a fresh start. She and her sister Gloria were pulled from a shelter by a couple trying to save them, but they were then kept in chicken coops until rescue. Despite everything, Edith’s gentle heart and love for people have remained strong. She is an active, curious pup who loves to play and explore. Edith gets along well with other dogs and enjoys being around people. She is relatively quiet, but she has plenty of energy and would thrive with an active family who can help her burn it off in healthy ways. Edith would benefit from basic command training to help her settle into a routine. Because she can be a bit bouncy, a home without toddlers is recommended for now, simply to avoid accidental knockdowns. If you are looking for a loving, lively companion who is eager to learn and even more eager to love, Edith may be the perfect match. Edity is up to date on vaccines and is fixed. Her  adoption fee is $550.    Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. He's the total package: friendly, gentle, and just perfect. he keeps a spotless kennel (we're pretty sure he is housetrained) walks great on a leash, he does a little happy crisscross dance but doesn't pull loves people, adores other dogs and kids and is fine with cats. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Through no fault of her own, Storm is coming to us through our owner surrender program. Her mom is going through medical treatment that keeps her away from home all day and Storm is being left home in her crate for long periods of time, which is not ideal for this playful young girl. Her mom is heartbroken, but knows this is the best decision for Storm. Storm is very friendly, loving, and playful; she gets along with other dogs; and she likes cats. Storm tries to play with her family’s cat, so if adopted to a family with a cat, a dog savvy cat would be best. Because of her size and energy, we think she would do best with bigger kids, just so she doesn’t accidentally knock over the little ones trying to play. She is crate trained, good in the car, and likes any toy you give her. She would do best with a fenced yard or an active person or family who will give her lots of exercise and love. Once she gets her energy out, she loves to cuddle. Due to her circumstances, Storm does need some work on her leash training and basic commands, but she is a smart girl and with some more attention we think she will pick things up quickly.  Storm is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, and will be microchipped. She is here in NJ ready to meet her new family. Her adoption fee is $450.   Click Here to Apply to Adopt Me!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 27, 2025, 11:56 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bridget is a beautiful, affectionate girl who’s searching for a forever family to call her own. She came to us from our partner rescue in Louisiana and is now thriving in her New Jersey foster home. From the moment she arrived, Bridget has shown what a truly special soul she is. Bridget adores people and has a gentle, welcoming nature that makes her an instant favorite. She loves greeting new friends with a happy hello (and sometimes a hug!), curling up next to you on the couch, or simply being close to her humans. She’s the perfect mix of playful and laid-back—always happy to enjoy a good walk or trail adventure, then relax by your side for the rest of the day. She enjoys playtime, especially a good game of tug, and occasionally gets short bursts of playful energy with her toys. Bridget is crate trained and mostly house trained, though she’s still learning her routine and may have the occasional accident. She’s also working on her leash manners, as she can pull when she’s excited, and she’ll benefit from basic training since she doesn’t yet know commands. With her sweet temperament and eagerness to please, she’s sure to blossom with a little guidance and consistency. Overall, Bridget is a loving, friendly, and gentle companion who gets along well with everyone she meets. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will fill your home with love, companionship, and joy, Bridget may be the perfect match for you.
