Story
Meet Barkley! This 2.5-year-old, 45-pound Labrador mix is a sweet, goofy guy who lives for attention, pets, and kisses from his humans. Barkley is super food-motivated and eager to learn, especially if there’s a treat involved. He’s on the leaner side right now and could use a little fattening up, but with his love of snacks, that shouldn’t be too hard! His current favorite toys include a Kong filled with goodies or his squeaky stuffed alligator. He’s doing well on a leash and loves exploring neighborhoods and parks around the city. Living next to a firehouse doesn’t faze him, though he can get a little spooked by sudden, unexpected noises. At home, Barkley is like your own personal shadow. He’ll follow you from room to room, always wanting to be close. He’s housetrained and partially crate trained. He mostly just likes to sleep in the crate at night with his humans nearby. Barkley is still working on his dog-to-dog social skills, and may prefer more mellow, laid back companions. If you’re looking for one dog to spoil, he’s your guy. He’ll be the most loyal companion and the best nap buddy you could ask for. Barkley is currently being fostered in Jersey City, NJ. His adoption fee is $475. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Keesha Franklin! Keesha Franklin is an 11-week-old, 11 pound hound mix who’s equal parts cuddle bug, snack enthusiast, and quite the smart girl! Keesha Franklin's superpowers include being incredibly affectionate (she will happily climb into your lap and cover you in kisses, or just cuddle into your arms for some lovin’), learning quickly (she’s already mastering “sit” and took to pee pads right away), and being easy to redirect when she’s teething and needs a little help recognizing what toys are hers while she tries to keep her little teeth comfortable. She loves to play, especially fetch with her squeaky ball and gentle tug of war with her rope. She tires out quickly, like any sweet pup, so nap breaks are a must for this baby- in your arms is her preferred spot but her bed is a safe space for her and she loves to be surrounded by her soft blanket and stuffed animals while she takes a snooze. While she’s not much of a barker, Keesha Franklin may give a soft little “hello” when she wants your attention, then settle back down instantly once she knows you see her. She’s just always happy to be near you and may need some additional crate training attention but she’s working on it. She’s acclimated easily to city noise and riding in the car. Where you go, she’ll happily tag along - a forever best friend! If you’re looking for a loving, playful and clever little pup who gives world-class snuggles, Keesha Franklin is just the girl for you! Keesha Franklin is currently being fostered in Brooklyn, NY, and her adoption fee is $550. Story
Meet Coco! Coco is a 1 year old female mixed breed about 30lbs. This animal is coming up on a transport to the NYC Area THIS Sunday, July 20th and is looking for a foster home to go into. There are multiple shelters down south that are overcrowded and Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue partners with these shelters to move the animals into foster homes in the North East before they are adopted into their forever family homes. What does it mean to be a foster? The first, and most important, responsibility is to provide a caring and safe home environment. There are some very specific guidelines that we will share with you that will keep everyone safe and healthy. From basic food and water, quarantine periods, and where you can or cannot take your foster, our Foster Handbook and Foster Mentors are fantastic resources. Depending on what type of animal you’re fostering, you’ll need some things in advance. These items may include a crate, puppy pads, or food and water bowls but we have a large foster network that helps share supplies! Louie’s Legacy will pay for full vetting, spay or neuter surgery, and all approved medical or behavioral treatments. By fostering a dog or cat…YOU are MAKING a DIFFERENCE! Every pet deserves saving! Let’s not leave any behind! Apply to foster today! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/LOUE/Dog *Please note that the pet you are interested in may not be available by the time we receive your application. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible and to be open to helping other animals in need.

Story
Meet Maximus! Maximus, or Maxxie, is a 3 year old mixed breed pup from Columbus Ohio. After being found tied behind a gas station, weighing a mere 23 lbs, he has made a full rebound and is now nearly 40! Maxxie is a super sweet boy who loves to play, find and chew sticks, and give kisses to his favorite people! Because of Max’s hard upbringing, he will need someone who is patient and willing to go slow with him. He’s quite shy around new people but not shy around other dogs! Max is well mannered in the crate, especially when his foster brother is in sight and he has the ability to watch out the window. Maxxie is also potty trained and rides very well in the car. At this moment, we’re unsure how Max would do with cats and children. Besides chewing sticks, giving kisses, and playing with his foster brother, Maxxie enjoys peanut butter kongs, bully sticks, and playing tug of war. If you’re looking for a young pup who wants to be involved in everything you do, Max is the guy for you! Maximus is currently being fostered in Woodbridge, NJ. Story
*Tommy is currently in foster in Puerto Rico, and will be flown to his chosen home. His flight costs are covered by the adoption fee* Meet Tommy, a sweet 1 yr old lab that was saved from abuse and neglect in Puerto Rico. Tommy spent the first 10 months of his life on a chain outside in the elements... no life for a beloved family pet that wants to give humans everything. So, one of The Puerto Rico Dog Fund's awesome foster homes stepped in to intervene and asked PRDF to help find him a home. Tommy weighs55 lbs of energetic lab / young dog muscle! :) He is in a home with 10 other dogs, and LOVES to play and interacts wonderfully. He's also super friendly to humans, and doesn't have a prey drive but hasn't been exposed to cats directly so that is an unknown. He's really intelligent, and learns very quickly so he'll be easy to continue to train and be exposed to all the wonderful things dogs get to do when part of a family. Apply for Tommy today, and let's finish his story on a high note of love, affection, and loyalty with the family that deserves him. Check our all our dogs at PRDF by visiting our FaceBook and Instagram pages.
