Story
ala Bear might as well be diabetic she is so sweet! Slightly over 5 years old and between 50-60 lbs, Kala always has a smile on her face, though her grin is truly ear to ear when she is with her people (or person). A phenomenal judge of character. At times, she seem overwhelmed with a lot of attention, there is never a long period of time that goes by without her making sure she catches your eye, almost as if she’s making sure “we’re good? We’re good.” Very energetic and playful on walks or in parks; she loves to introduce herself to other dogs. At home, she loves her bear, but most importantly, she just wants to be close with her family. Kala was found roaming the streets and not straying to far from the building across the one she currently resides in now. Not much of her story is known prior to being picked up in April in 2025. Whatever happened, she’s unfortunately developed a habit of being scared easily, though never backed by aggression. She’s a dog who wears her heart on her coat and genuinely wants nothing more than to love and be loved. THESE ARE KALA'S STATS: Approx age: 5y/o Approximate weight 60lbs Breed (s) Retriever Mix Spayed or neutered? Spayed Good with: kids? yes strangers? yes other dogs? yes cats? Yes (she wants one to be her best friend!) On leash? Yes and off! Housetrained? perfect Crate trained? yes Paper trained? yes Kala would do well just about anywhere. If I could wish her a perfect home it would be one with a yard for when she gets the case of the zoomies! She adores belly rubs from kids and she is the perfect kind of protection. Will bark to alert but will greet you with the softest and sweetest disposition. But be ware, when her curly tail gets wagging, get anything fragile out of her way ? She is just such a wonderful dog who deserves the best. She loves being on the couch and she immediately goes upside down and slides herself back and forth. She has THE BEST SMILE!! Her one blue eye is pretty special too. She is incredibly obedient. She will sit and stay in the middle of a busy sidewalk until you signal her, she really aims to please. Loves going under the bed. She will become your shadow but in time and patience will understand your boundaries. She has never once been destructive when left alone! Oh, make sure to have a lint roller on hand always! I absolutely adore this dog. From someone’s trash she has become such a treasure. This dog deserves the loving home that sees how wonderful she is. My name is Mark, 35 years old, grew up with dogs. I’m that cliché story about going to a party with a bunch of people, but turns out there is a dog there so I’d rather hang out with the dog and will care more about the dog liking/trusting me than anyone else. The very first night we met Kala she was neither aggressive nor mean. She was terrified and I think feeling as close to abandoned and alone as a dog could. She loves and wants love to a fault. She has the ability to very briefly frustrate you, but it’s only because she only wants to be near you. She will make a great family dog and like most dogs with some size would do best at a house with a yard, but she enjoys walks with the occasional trip to a park. In our brief time together, Olivia and I have made the effort of acclimating her to other dogs (and cats), their owners, and those without pets. Because we are uncertain of her past, we can only make guesses on what we see and her moments of immediate and extreme shyness makes us believe that previous owners were very quick to reprimand.

Story
Obi is what we lovingly call a gentle giant. This big handsome boy has stolen the hearts of everyone at the shelter. He’s so well-loved that he often takes little walks through our offices just to say hello - his daily visits are the highlight of our day. Obi is playful, incredibly sweet, and happiest when he’s with his people. He loves a good chew toy, a comfy spot to relax, and has no idea he’s not a lap dog (but we don’t have the heart to tell him otherwise). Obi will do best in a home with older children, where he can soak up all the love and attention as the only dog. He’s not a fan of cats, but he’s got more than enough affection to fill your whole home. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Obi just might be your guy. If this animal is located at our Manhattan Adoption Center, head in to meet them and see if you are a match! We are a same-day adoption center, and an application does not put you on a list or hold an animal for you. If they are in Wantagh or in a foster home, please submit an online application and our team will reach out to further discuss the adoption process. Prior to adoption, all of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and given their age-appropriate vaccines.

Story
"No Dogs Left Behind operates boots on the ground in Asia, fighting on the front lines to rescue dogs from the illegal dog-meat trade. No Dogs Left Behind works hands-on with local activists through emergency response, pulling dogs directly from slaughterhouses, dog meat trucks, wet markets and traffickers. Our mission extends beyond borders worldwide, advocating for the creation and enforcement of animal welfare laws, and raising awareness for a cruelty-free, sustainable world in which no animal is violated, exploited, tortured or slaughtered for commercial goods or profit. PLEASE NOTE: All of our dogs ARE CURRENTLY LOCATED AT ONE OF OUR TWO SANTUARIES IN CHINA UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED ON THEIR PROFILE. If you are seeing this post, the dog you are interested in IS CURRENTLY AVAIALBLE FOR ADOPTION. Canadian Adoptions - For dogs going to Canada, we expect the wait for flights to be approximately 2 to 4 months AFTER the adoption is complete. PLEASE KNOW, however, that we can make no guarantee about flight dates because we are at the whim of the commercial airlines and airports. Available cargo space for animals on commercial airlines has been limited in recent months. United States Adoptions - In July of 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) implemented a "temporary suspension on the importation of dogs from 113 countries, including China. Therefore, we are in the process of moving all our survivors from China to Canada to clear our two sanctuaries in East Asia which will give us the ability to save more dogs from slaughter. As per CDC regulations, dogs imported from China can enter the United States only AFTER staying in Canada for a period of 6 months. While we are accepting adoption applications from the United States, please be aware that there is a 6-month wait time. Should the CDC lift the import ban at any point prior to the 6-month period, we will advise you. Once you have adopted a survivor and a flight has been secured to Canada, we will arrange for your dog to stay in a loving foster home in the Toronto area that we have secured on your behalf or in our sanctuary located in Scarborough, Ontario. After the required 6-month stay in Canada, American adopters can arrange to pick up their survivors in Canada. IF YOU WANT TO ADOPT: The first step in our adoption process is to complete an application. EVERYONE MUST complete an application. You can complete an application on our website, https://nodogsleftbehind.com/adopt/ ADOPTION FEE: Current Adoption Fees: $2,290 USD for SMALL dogs under 50 pounds $2,990 USD for LARGE dogs over 50 pounds $1500 USD for SPONSORED dogs who have had a portion of their flight paid by a generous donor (noted with a white airplane symbol in their photo on our Foster or Adopt section of our website). Please NOTE, the adoption fee MAY change after adopting your survivor. If, at the time of transport, the transportation costs have increased, adopters will be required to pay the additional expenses. Due to COVID-19, regulations, airline availability, cost and logistics are ever-changing. The cost of adopting a survivor is constantly changing and therefore the adoption fees are subject to change. Adopters do not cover the costs of the dogs' medical care or the food and care they receive while they remain in our sanctuaries. The Pay-it-Forward Fee that is paid at the time of adoption covers the current cost of flying the dogs out of China. All our dogs are sterilized, microchipped, and have received all current vaccines as required to be imported as per airline and government regulations. CHILDREN, CATS AND OTHER PETS: Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if any of our dogs are friendly with cats or young children. Although our dogs are friendly with most other dogs, we don't have the ability to test our dogs in our sanctuaries in China and cannot make any guarantees as to their temperament or compatibility with other animals, children, or cats. REQUESTS FOR HYPO-ALLERGENIC DOGS: We do not guarantee, agree, hint at, or suggest that any of our dogs are hypo allergenic. All our dogs are rescued from the dog meat trade in East Asia and therefore, we do not know their history or breed mixes. TEMPERAMENT: As our dogs are rescued from the dog trafficking trade in East Asia, we do not have history of their past. We cannot guarantee their temperament when they arrive in a home setting. HOUSE AND POTTY TRAINING: As we do not know the history of our rescued dogs, we should assume that they will need to be house trained. Some dogs may have been stolen pets and have previously been in a home environment in China while others may have been stray dogs or specifically bred for consumption. We advise every new adopter to treat these dogs as if they are puppies and be patient in regaining their trust with humans and providing basic training. We will also disclose any dog with more serious needs as our main goal is to get each dog the very best home for them. ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS: lindsay@nodogsleftbehind.com "
