Story
Meet Blancl! He is the sweetest boyl! He is a 3-4 year old that was rescued from a shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Blanc and some of his family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app December 22, 2025, 4:50 pm

Story
Meet Bootz! She’s an adorable and sweet 3-month-old, 4 lb Maltese/Terrier mix. Bootz comes from Bakersfield. Her mama hadn’t been spayed and ended up having five puppies from several litters—so one dog became six. Feeling overwhelmed, her previous owner decided to surrender the entire little family. The city shelter in Bakersfield is so overcrowded and stretched beyond its limits, and thousands of unwanted dogs are euthanized each year simply because there isn’t enough space. Stories like Bootz’s are why spaying and neutering pets is so important and why we rescue hundreds of dogs from Bakersfield every year. Despite her rough start, Bootz is full of sunshine. She is ready for a forever home who will give her all the love and snuggles she deserves! More from her foster: She never stops moving! Out of the litter, she loves people the most—such a sweet girl. She enjoys spending time in the yard and playing outside. She wants to be by your side every step of the way! A true companion, she connects well with other dogs and is warming up to both people and kids. -------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. More on our process: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

Story
James Bone 007 is on a mission, not to save the world, but to find his forever home! This dashing 9-year-old, 13 lb Maltese-Pom mix was found wandering the streets of Compton after an ICE raid, likely separated from his owner. With no microchip and no way to trace his family, James spent a month in foster care while neighbors searched for his owner. Then, he was brought to us at Shelter Hope in the hopes of finding him a wonderful new home. Since moving in with his foster family, James has proven himself to be a true gentleman. His foster says he seems house-trained (not a single accident!) and will politely sniff at the door when he needs to go out. He walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys leisurely strolls in the park, and, like any alert little secret agent, keeps an eye on the world around him, sometimes barking at other dogs or out the window. James is a wonderful companion with excellent manners. He adores children, warms up easily to adults, and loves being near his humans, though he’s also independent enough to settle quietly on his own. He enjoys snuggles and pets but isn’t overly clingy, and he’ll happily follow you from room to room, waiting patiently by your side. Though his foster noticed that his hearing may not be the best, James doesn’t let it slow him down one bit. He’s thriving, happy, and ready to share his sweet, steady presence with a family who will love him. James Bone 007 is ready for his greatest adventure yet, finding a forever family to call his own! ------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
**COMMITTED FOSTER TO ADOPT HOME NEEDED...OR BETTER YET...A FOREVER HOME! please read his story... Dumped at the shelter with back leg deformities.....he was so scared and alone! Meet our handsome boy Cosmo! He is a 2 year old, 16lb, Maltipoo that was dumped at a local shelter with back leg deformities. The shelter reached out to us to see if we could help by bringing him into our rescue and we said yes! Cosmo has been to the vet and a very good orthopedic specialist who basically feels that he was born like this and surgery on his legs is only a 60% chance of success. For now, with our vets input, we feel that he is doing so fine on his own that we are holding off on surgery and he may never need it....all we know is this little guy can get around just fine! He can keep up with all his doggy friends like you wouldn't believe! He cannot go on long walks though as it could put a lot of stress on his legs, but he absolutely LOVES the backyard and has so much fun just walking and trotting along with his friends. We are looking for a committed foster home, foster to adopt home, or better yet....a forever home for our sweet boy! Cosmo needs a single level home with no deep stairs. He is fine with a couple porch stairs, but not more than that. A home with owners that are not gone long hours during the day would be ideal as he absolutely loves being around people. He could be your one and only dog in the home getting all the attention or he could go in a home with a sweet, calm dog. He does not do well with dominant dogs that will growl or bark at him. Cosmo is getting the hang of getting potty trained and needs a patient and loving home that will be understanding if he has an accident. He is a quick learner and will get it in no time! Cosmo is a young dog who we feel didn't get the love and attention in his prior home, so we want to find him the best forever home out there! Cosmo is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered We only adopt in Southern California as an in person meet/greet, home check, and trial are required. Please contact us at gina@theforgottendog.org You can see videos/posts of Cosmo on our IG @forgottendogfoundation_la
