Pickles is an 8-year-old Maltese mix with the sweetest little soul. After being abandoned by his family, he could have given up on people — but he didn’t. And we promised him we would never let him down again. We promised to find him a forever family who will love him the way he deserves. Pickles is easygoing, gentle, and wonderfully well-mannered. He would do great in a home with kids and would love nothing more than to be someone’s little shadow. Everyone at the vet’s office completely fell in love with his charming personality — he has that quiet, special magic that makes you melt the moment you meet him. Pickles has so much love left to give. He’s ready for soft beds, warm laps, and a family that will cherish him forever.

Story

Comet is an approximately six-year-old Maltese. A friendly dog, he is a mixture of spunky, loving, and sassy with a medium energy level. Comet gets along with all dogs, male, female, large, medium and small. He would love to have a buddy or two in his home to play with and show him the way. Weighing in at nine pounds, he is currently being fostered with two big dogs and gets along with both. Comet has mastered potty training with no accidents in the last month. He loves going for walks and is excellent on leash. He enjoys going on adventures to new places and taking car rides, too. Comet likes hanging out with his people and is a good boy with visitors coming to the house. Comet does not annoyingly bark, but he does have a little little growl he sometimes uses to tell you he wants to be pet and sometimes to tell you he doesn't want to be bothered. It should not be mistaken as something bad, rather just him being sassy. At night he sleeps quietly in his dog bed. (Sometimes he wants to come up on his foster mom's bed to sleep and she does allow it.) Unfortunately, the people who had Comet before he entered the shelter did not take very good care of him and he had severe periodontal disease. The rescue had to remove all of his teeth as a result. He eats wet food and can eat small, soft treats. Comet loves to sunbathe on warm days and romp around in the yard with his doggie friends. Toys are not a huge interest, but he will occasionally play with them. It's very cute when he gets the zoomies and runs through the house with excitement. Comet is a great little dog who really wants to please and be part of a family. Could that family be yours?

Meet Big Mac... another fantastic dog dumped in a shelter. Big Mac is a mischievous pup. He has great self esteem and loves to play and snuggle. He walks well on a leash, is crate trained and potty trained. He will require an active household to meet his needs both physically and mentally. He can be a little rascal if not. He is around 1 year old and weighs 15 pounds. All dogs in our program are up to date on all their shots, spayed or neutered, and micro chipped. Our dogs are in foster homes which enables us to learn more about them in a home environment. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. Meet, Tucker! This 2 month old terrier came in as part of a group of strays, and he’s making up for lost time with all the wonder (and chaos!) that comes with puppyhood. In his foster home, Tucker has discovered that life is pretty great when you have toys to chew, a dog friend to wrestle with, and humans who say your name and make your whole body light up. Call “Tucker!” and he perks right up, eyes bright and ready for whatever adventure is next. He’s full of classic puppy energy: zoomies, tug-o-war, pouncing on his dog friend, and chewing to soothe those teething gums. When he finally tires out, he’ll happily curl up in a dog bed—even if it’s in another room—and snooze like an angel. He also sleeps through the night in his crate and doesn’t need midnight potty breaks, which his foster calls “a total gift.” Tucker is still working on potty training and mouthiness, so he’ll need someone patient and consistent who understands that puppies learn with time, guidance, and repetition. He currently uses pee pads and is learning where to go with regular potty breaks. He can be shy with new people at first, but with gentle exposure and positive experiences, he warms up and shows his brave, curious side. Tucker’s ideal home is one that can embrace his busy brain and bouncy body—someone who will laugh at the silly moments, redirect the naughty ones, and lovingly show him how safe and good the world can be. Meet Hugo Hugo is an absolute miracle with a heart just as big as his story. This 6-year-old, 14.5-pound Maltese Terrier mix was found abandoned outside a liquor store in the pouring rain and rescued by the amazing team at Hope for Paws. When Hugo first came into care, he was completely blind due to severe cataracts. We immediately took over his care and rushed him to a veterinary ophthalmologist, knowing there was a chance surgery could restore his vision. Sadly, one eye could not be saved due to a fully detached retina—but hope remained for the other. Hugo bravely underwent surgery, and although complications initially made the outcome uncertain, this sweet boy persevered. After three weeks of intensive eye drops and injections, Hugo was able to see again. This was an absolute miracle. Today, Hugo is a loving, happy boy who truly enjoys life. He loves car rides, going on walks, playing with toys, and spending time with his doggie friends. He does best with slow introductions to new dogs, but once he’s comfortable, he’s friendly and playful. Hugo absolutely adores people and wants to be wherever his humans are—he’s a loyal little shadow who thrives on companionship. Hugo will need daily eye drops for the rest of his life and periodic ophthalmology rechecks to monitor his eyes. The good news? He’s a very good boy about getting his drops and handles his care like a champ. Hugo is looking for a calm, loving home that will continue his care and cherish the incredible soul he is. Davey Pimento is a 2 year old adorable, small, charming Maltese-Poodle mix. He is a happy lad despite not being treated well by his former owner. Davey is doing well in foster with another dog, is an absolute lap companion and enjoys his walks, naps, and interaction with others. He enjoys his foster brother, playing and napping together. He is also good with cats, would love a home with a doggie buddy, and no children. Given his earlier life being a bit harsh on this little one, he is ready for his forever home, a loving, nurturing, and structured home with basic routine and attention.
