Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Booker, our sweet little Maltese/Shih Tzu mix! This 5-year-old, 15-pound, neutered male is looking for a loving home where he can truly thrive. He is heartworm positive so he’ll need to go through treatment for that but, he's a medium energy guy and ready to enjoy life to the fullest. He's a true lap dog at heart, craving love and snuggles and being with his people, but he needs a bit of guidance and patience to adjust to his new surroundings. He adores chew toys and playing with other dogs, so having a confident companion dog in his new home could be a great benefit. Mostly potty trained, he does need some help working on his separation anxiety. Found as a stray in Texas, he'll be arriving in Minnesota on July 27, eager to find a new family to call his own. If you're looking for a loving, playful, and cuddly companion who just needs a little extra help settling in, this sweet boy might be the perfect addition to your family! Booker is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 5:57 pm

Story
Dora is a sweet girl who is learning to trust us. She is still scared but follows us around the house. She likes my resident dogs. Loves to be outside. She sleeps in her kennel at night. She does bark when she wants to go out potty. She is working on going potty outside. She is doing an awesome job and we will keep working with her.  Age: 12 years old Breed: Maltese Weight: 5lbs Kid-friendly: She is a nervous nelly but would do great! Dogs: She would benefit from another dog in the home! Cats: Unknown but couldn't imagine having an issue. Crate trained: She likes to be around her person so she will bark in a crate. Potty trained: She will go on a pee pad. Health concerns: Dora has 5 mammary masses on her mammary chain. Due to this, she will not be spayed. Dora will need her ears cleaned frequently. Current medications & estimated costs: Possible ear medications + cleanings Adoption fee: $125 As a rescue, we provide the care, procedures and testing that is available to us. Adopters will be responsible for continued preventatives, follow-up appointments, and medications (if applicable). At times, adopters will be responsible for procedures not completed in rescue (dentals, bloodwork, etc.)  Your new dog will receive their rabies and distemper vaccine.  $50 discount for seniors (65+) and veterans. Adoption fees help pay for the dog's veterinary exam, vaccinations (rabies and distemper) HW test and spay/neuter if needed and additional health needs specific to each animal.   Grey Face Rescue does not adopt outside of Minnesota for now. We apologize for the inconvenience.  We do not adopt animals to families whose current pets are not up-to-date on vaccinations or not altered. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons as stated by a veterinarian and we will require proof of that recommendation. Thank you for understanding our mission to reduce overpopulation.  Once you submit your application, our adoption manager will be in touch, so please check your spam folder if you do not see something from us within 7-10 days.  Thank you again for your interest in a Grey Face senior. We appreciate your support!   July 26, 2024, 4:23 pm

Story
Our sweet Lily is seeking a very special home <3   Because she came from a lifetime of breeding, she has 2 vertebrates that are bone on bone and filled with arthritis. She wasn't someone's family member or their pet, her and many others were used specifically for breeding with minimal veterinary care provided to ensure they live a healthy and happy life. Without pain medication, she has the continuous urge to defecate.  This could be because doing so relieves some back pain and/or behavior.   Lily is extremely sweet + loves to be loved on by her people. At only 6lbs, she loves to be carried around. She is great with other dogs and cats. She loves to lounge and sleep during the day. As long as she sees her human, she is comfortable and safe. She does experience anxiety when she is unable to see her person therefore we do not recommend a home with shared walls. Lily does well when taken outside on a regular schedule, however, she is also comfortable in diapers. Sweet Lily has learned to navigate three stairs but hasn't conquered a flight.    Lily has so much love to give a special person looking for the sweetest companion. She's ready to spend the rest of her life completely spoiled + we believe she is so deserving after the life she's had.   After years of having babies, she is ready to be someone's baby. Age: 11 Breed: Maltese Weight: 6.4 Lbs Kid-friendly: Yes  Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Crate trained:  Yes but she will bark. Potty trained: She needs to be taken out often (every 2-hours) but she also does fine in diapers. Health concerns: None - Recently Spayed Medications:  Rimadyl, Gabapentin, Fluoxetine, Probiotic and Laxative   Diet: PetFresh - She needs to be on a food other than kibble or canned.  Human grade or homemade dog food, this reduces her 'output' during the day.  If she goes back to kibble she will poop in the house non-stop. Adoption fee: $50 As a rescue, we provide the care, procedures and testing that is available to us. Story
Hey! My name is Stray Charles. I am incredibly sweet and affectionate, especially with the ladies. I like to show off my silky, soft hair and I don’t shed very much, so I know how much they will love me! I am more selective about men. Some are fine, while others might see my protective side.  Currently I have a few things I’m working on. I’m starting to figure out house training and I go stand at the door when I need to go potty. It takes me a while to warm up to new people so I need a family that is willing to be patient with me and I would probably do better in a quiet home without children or with older teens. I am an incredibly talented jumper so I need a home with a tall fence or to be on a tie out. This is also one of my strengths because I would do great on an outdoor adventute and obstacles won't slow me down (future agility champion?)! I’m very good in my kennel when my foster mom is out but at night I need to sleep in bed with you and I promise I will lie peacefully through the night next to you or at the end of the bed. I haven’t met any cats yet but I absolutely love every dog I meet. I’m very playful and I share my treats and bones nicely. If you are looking for a loyal side kick then I’m the little guy you are looking for. *** Because I am slow to warm up, Foster to Adopt (FTA) may be available for the right fit.  ##2002461##

Story
Hi everyone! I’m Brodie. I’m a Maltese mix that came into rescue two years ago.    My cons: I am slow to warm up, however, once I get to trust you, I love to be on your lap and will sleep with you. I bark at new people, dogs and cats. I let people pet me if they come down to my level. I also have seizures and take daily medication for this. My medication is cheap (you can get a three month supply for $20 with the Good Rx app!)    My pros: I’m a small dog that is housebroken and just love to be around my people. I love to chew on my toys and if you throw a ball or toy, I will run after it. I walk pretty well on my leash with the occasional pull.    I was pulled from a shelter after my owner passed away. I am still learning that new people are okay. Like I said, it takes me a bit to warm up but once I do, I will follow you around forever. If you have the patience and would love to make me a part of your family, please fill out an application!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $475.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:02 pm
