Story
Hi everyone! I’m Brodie. I’m a Maltese mix that came into rescue two years ago.    My cons: I am slow to warm up, however, once I get to trust you, I love to be on your lap and will sleep with you. I bark at new people, dogs and cats. I let people pet me if they come down to my level. I also have seizures and take daily medication for this. My medication is cheap (you can get a three month supply for $20 with the Good Rx app!)    My pros: I’m a small dog that is housebroken and just love to be around my people. I love to chew on my toys and if you throw a ball or toy, I will run after it. I walk pretty well on my leash with the occasional pull.    I was pulled from a shelter after my owner passed away. I am still learning that new people are okay. Like I said, it takes me a bit to warm up but once I do, I will follow you around forever. If you have the patience and would love to make me a part of your family, please fill out an application!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $475.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:02 pm

Story
Miss Melody is a 6 year old Maltese.  I’ve been calling her Miss Melody since the first day Ipicked her up from the shelter. She is dainty, fragile, very shy and skittish.  When she first arrived home with me, she fled to my bathroom and hid in there for a few days.  Then she picked a corner of my dining room that is dark and out of the way of traffic and stayed there for weeks. Miss Melody would physically tremble when I got too close. It was heartbreaking. It has taken her more than a month to come out of the corner and she now spends time in and around her crate.  She loves to play with chew toys and she lets you know she’s excited to eat during feeding times.  She is really good around other dogs and cats. It’s the humans that make her nervous. She is so well behaved and tiny that she steals hearts wherever she goes.  I feed her in her crate as she has guarding tendencies.  She likes small, slower walks.  She is not used to being held; she is quite stiff and not a bit relaxed and cannot make eye contact with you while being held.  She requires a lot of tenderness, love, and patience.  She hasn’t been around kids so I’m not sure how she’ll do around them. She is very afraid of adults and will run and hide when you come near.  So far, any trips in the car stresses her out, and she’ll tremble. I think Miss Melody will do well in a quiet home with not a lot of expectations.  If you give her the space and patience that she needs, she will slowly gravitate towards you.  She can play with other dogs and seems happy and secure with them in that she’ll come out of her crate to play when the adults are asleep.  Miss Melody has a kind and loving heart who will, given the time and space to feel safe, show you her sweet, beautiful self and hopefully learn to trust humans again.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $550.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:02 pm

Story
Meet Annie, an 8-year-old sweetheart with a playful personality. Annie came to us after her elderly owner was displaced by Hurricane Beryl and had to make the difficult decision to give her up. Despite her age and needing to shed a few pounds, Annie’s zest for life remains undiminished. Annie weighs about 20 pounds right now, but would be happier and healthier around 12-14 pounds. While her vision and hearing aren’t as sharp as they once were, it doesn’t slow her down one bit.Annie adores attention and will stand on her hind legs for pets and treats. She loves to snuggle and will happily fall asleep in your arms while being petted. She’s house trained, uses a doggie door, and sleeps quietly in her kennel through the night. Annie does need regular grooming to keep her coat in tip top shape.Annie gets along well with other dogs, though she can be a bit intimidated by larger ones. She’s great with all people and always has a happy demeanor. Annie will make a wonderful companion and is ready to bring joy to her forever home.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
Doesn’t this sweet little face make you want to pick him up and give him a hug? Alfie is a 4 yr old, 9# male Maltese that was surrendered by a breeder that was “downsizing”. He is playful and outgoing, microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered. Walks are the highlight of his day, and when his foster mom picks up his leash he will start to happily bark (but is easily quieted). Alfie is an active dog that will need some regular form of exercise daily – walks are a great way to tire this lively little dog out, so his person should be physically able to keep up with him. Living inside a home with a family is a new experience for him. Initially he had an issue with being picked up, and would become fearful and rigid – a person’s hands seemed to frighten him. Now he is fine with being picked up and cuddled by a gentle adult. Alfie wouldn’t do well with fast moving, vocal children. Having previously lived in the kennel with dogs, he does great with them, and his ideal home would include another same size canine for companionship. Alfie does not do well alone, so his adopter should be home much of the time – perhaps someone that works from home. Coming from a breeder, he wasn’t housebroken coming into our program but his foster has a routine for him that seems to be working well – he goes out on leash at least every 4 hours (goes potty fairly quickly then), and wears a belly band when loose in the house. He has a 6x6 pen in the house, and he rarely potties in there. He has a great start on the house training, and his adopter will just need to continue until he is reliably housebroken. He sleeps quietly all night long in his indoor pen. No cat experience. Fine meeting and interacting with visitors. No problem going up and down the stairs. To give him every advantage to being successful in transitioning to a new home, we are looking for a quiet adult home, with someone that has previous dog experience. Because of the frequency he needs to go out, he would do much better in a home than he would in an apartment (a fenced yard would be great). There should be another small-medium dog in the home. Alfie will need to be groomed 4-5 times a year – be sure you can afford this ongoing expense. He just had a bath and got his nails clipped before these pictures were taken, and he was a perfect little gentleman. If you have questions, or would like to meet Alfie, please call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $400.

Story
Hey! My name is Stray Charles. I am incredibly sweet and affectionate, especially with the ladies. I like to show off my silky, soft hair and I don’t shed very much, so I know how much they will love me! I am more selective about men. Some are fine, while others might see my protective side.  Currently I have a few things I’m working on. I’m starting to figure out house training and I go stand at the door when I need to go potty. It takes me a while to warm up to new people so I need a family that is willing to be patient with me and I would probably do better in a quiet home without children or with older teens. I am an incredibly talented jumper so I need a home with a tall fence or to be on a tie out. This is also one of my strengths because I would do great on an outdoor adventute and obstacles won't slow me down (future agility champion?)! I’m very good in my kennel when my foster mom is out but at night I need to sleep in bed with you and I promise I will lie peacefully through the night next to you or at the end of the bed. I haven’t met any cats yet but I absolutely love every dog I meet. I’m very playful and I share my treats and bones nicely. If you are looking for a loyal side kick then I’m the little guy you are looking for. *** Because I am slow to warm up, Foster to Adopt (FTA) may be available for the right fit.  ##2002461##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Morty, the charming Maltese on the lookout for my forever home. Let me give you the scoop on what makes me special. At 7 pounds and 7 years young, I may be small, but my personality is mighty. I'm friendly, curious, and playful—always up for a good time! Despite my luxating knees, I don't let it slow me down. With a little extra care and some glucosamine, I'm ready to tackle life head-on. I'm a social butterfly who loves making new friends, whether they're furry or not. Playing with other dogs and even cats? Count me in! Squeaky toys are my jam, and I'll happily gather them in my favorite bed for a play session. Plus, I'm a foodie at heart—I'll devour treats, fruits, and peanut butter like there's no tomorrow. While I may not be a fan of the kiddos under 12, I'm still working on mastering the art of potty training. I'm a quick learner, though, and with a little patience and consistency, I'll get there in no time. At night, I sleep quietly in my kennel, but I might get a bit chatty when I hear someone stirring in the morning. Now, about those stairs—I'm still getting the hang of them. I prefer homes with minimal stairs to spare my precious knees, but don't worry, I don't mind being carried. And if you lay out a trail of rugs on those slippery floors, I'll be forever grateful, especially in the kitchen where I love to supervise meal prep. In a nutshell, I'm cute, snuggly, and full of personality. I adore cuddling on the couch and striking my best playboy pose when you want to scoop me up. So, if you're ready to open your heart and home to a furry friend like me, let's make it happen! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in th eir forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a   particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs.
