Story
Meet Lexi! Sweet and adventurous Lexi lost her home when her owner passed away. She landed in a shelter and was adopted again, only for that owner to pass away suddenly also. Lexi is now in a loving foster home and once again looking for a loving home to spend her golden years in. This sweet little fur ball is very gentle and easygoing. She is believed to be about 12 or 13 years old and weighs 9 pounds. Calm, friendly, and remarkably resilient; Lexi was living in her forever home for two years when her person suddenly passed away. She was also happily sharing her new home with another small dog. She is quite friendly—but also very much a cuddle bug who wants to nap next to you. She enjoys meeting new people and other dogs, though she at times vocalizes her greetings to some dogs from afar. Lexi recently had a dental cleaning. She has 8 bottom teeth left but has no problem eating softened kibble and soft foods. Lexi has blossomed in her foster home, showing lots of her spunky personality. She loves playing fetch, likes to roll around on the floor, and gets very excited to go on walks to sniff. She is adventurous, curious, and very kind. She loves people and would like to be near them all the time. She can struggle with being left alone and will cry if left alone for long. This will need continued patience and work. We have not seen her with cats.  She is an easy companion with the calm maturity of an older dog and modest exercise needs making her a great fit for a calm household or someone looking for a loving, sweet companion content to be near her people. She is potty and leash trained. Regular grooming will keep her lush double coat looking great. Lexi is now freshly groomed, feeling fantastic and eager to find a stable, loving home where she can continue to thrive. Lexi's adoption fee is $195. You can submit an application via our website savinggreatanimals.org   We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
Meet Vivi! Vivi is a bright, energetic 1 year old pup who is always ready for fun! She loves to chase and wrestle with her dog friends or play an enthusiastic game of fetch with her humans. On walks, she enjoys taking in all the scents of the world and thrives with a good balance of exercise, playtime, and mental enrichment through puzzle toys. This smart girl is eager to learn and highly food-motivated, making her a quick study with training. Vivi is already potty trained, crate trained, and she’s progressing with clicker training for recall and correcting behaviors like barking at the mail carrier and people walking by. The same training is being used during walks when we see other dogs. Vivi also barks when visitors first come in, but she warms up fast—usually a treat and a few pets are all she needs to relax. Vivi can become uncomfortable if she feels cornered or trapped or you try to take something of high value from her. In those moments, she may growl or snap to communicate that she needs space. Vivi mostly needs help with regulation. She is easily over-aroused and can get over-stimulated. We are working with her and she is super smart and pick things up easily. We would like to see her in a home with someone dedicated to help her continue to learn. While she’s not a total lapdog, Vivi loves being near her people — often stretching out across your legs or resting close by. She’ll make a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates an intelligent, playful dog who’s always up for an adventure. We would prefer to see her in a family with kids over 12 only. Vivi needs to be in a home with a yard. She is an alert barker which is not suitable for an apartment. She should be in a cat-free home. Vivi is vaccinated, chipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
Cotton Age: 3 years Sex: Spayed Female Breed: Maltese Terrier mix Color: White / Beige Weight: 8 kg (17.6 lbs) Height: 36 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story Cotton was rescued from an extreme animal hoarding situation where over 230 dogs were being kept in poor conditions. Despite her past, Cotton is a gentle and affectionate little girl who still loves people and seeks comfort from humans. Special Note: Congenital Deafness (born deaf)     ‍ Human Social Skills Cotton is very friendly and affectionate. She approaches both familiar people and strangers, enjoys rubbing against them, and allows easy handling. She can be comfortably picked up and will even show her belly once she bonds with you.   She is good with children under 13, but because she is deaf, she may get startled by sudden movements or unexpected touches.   Dog Social Skills Cotton will greet unfamiliar dogs but doesn’t really play with them. She generally prefers dogs similar to her size and feels overwhelmed by high-energy dogs.   Although she’s not very interested in other dogs, she has lived with many dogs before and may feel anxious if she is the only dog in the home.   Cats Cotton has passed her cat test and is currently being fostered in a home with cats. She usually ignores them, but sometimes at night, if she suddenly sees a cat’s shadow, she may get scared and bark.   Energy Level Low energy. Cotton loves to rest and sleep most of the day. Because she is deaf, once she falls asleep, she tends to sleep very deeply and for long periods.   Walks Cotton doesn’t have much walking experience yet, so she’s still learning. She generally follows her handler well, but if she feels scared, she may pull on the leash to move away from what’s frightening.   Other Behaviors & Notes • No resource guarding with people or dogs. • Very quiet at the center, but after moving to foster, she showed separation anxiety and howled for about 3 days. • After training, she can now stay alone (with another dog present) for over 3 hours calmly. • She sleeps in the same space as people but not right next to them. • Still struggling with crate training — she becomes anxious and barks when she can’t see people. • No car sickness, but she is scared of getting into the car and needs to be carried in. • Currently uses both pee pads indoors and outdoor potty.   Ideal Home Cotton would do best in a calm, patient home that understands deaf dogs and can communicate using visual cues and consistency. A home with another gentle dog may help her feel more secure.   She is a sweet, quiet soul who just needs time, stability, and love to truly blossom Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org Please also visit our Facebook and Instagram! Story
Echo Age: 2 years Sex: Neutered male Breed: Maltese/Terrier mix Color: White Weight: 9.1 kg (20 lbs) Height: 38 cm (15 in)   Echo is deaf (he cannot hear). He relies on visual cues and human guidance, and stays very attentive to his person.   Rescue Story: Echo was rescued from an animal hoarding situation where over 230 dogs were being kept.   Human Socialization   Echo is a very affectionate and friendly boy. He approaches both familiar people and strangers, rubs against them, and enjoys being petted. He likes both men and women and does well with children under 13 (he simply shows little interest). He is comfortable being picked up, and once he bonds with you, he loves showing his belly for rubs   Dog Socialization   Echo is friendly with both familiar and unfamiliar dogs and happily goes up to greet them. He doesn’t quite know how to “play properly” yet and mostly just runs around excitedly. He is not afraid of larger dogs, though he usually prefers dogs of similar size. If another dog provokes him, he tends to avoid conflict and gets along well without issues. After playtime, he usually likes to rest in his own quiet space.   Cats   His reaction to cats has not been observed yet, but a cat test can be arranged.   Energy Level   Low energy. Echo is a calm dog who enjoys relaxing and resting most of the time   Walks   Echo only recently started going on walks, so he is still learning to explore and sniff around. However, he walks nicely without pulling and follows his human well. Since he is deaf, he relies heavily on visual cues and tends to stay close and attentive to his handler.   Other Behaviors   Echo does not resource guard food with either people or dogs and is not particularly food-motivated.   Because he was born and raised among many dogs, he has some baseline separation anxiety. When first placed in a new environment—especially since he is deaf—he may feel anxious if he cannot see his person. In the past, he showed behaviors like scratching walls, the floor, or tearing pee pads.   However, once he adjusts, he becomes very relaxed, sleeps well, and can stay alone comfortably. He rarely barks and is currently doing both indoor pee pad training and outdoor potty.   Foster History   • First foster home: About 2 weeks. No howling when left alone, but scratched at closed doors. • Second foster home: About 1.5 months. Did well staying alone. • Current: Staying at the AKR Center.   Echo is a gentle, quiet, and loving soul. He may need a little patience during the initial adjustment period, but once he feels safe, he becomes an incredibly easy and calm companion who just wants to stay close to his person. 🌼Meet Yeonu— Once Abandoned, Now Happy, Hopeful, and Ready for a Forever Family! Here are more photos and videos of Yeonu: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTHefmckcPj/?igsh=amdoajdkdTM0ZWJh Yeonu was abandoned this winter in a village in Icheon, Korea. After someone reported him, he was taken to a shelter and placed on the euthanasia list. Fortunately, he was rescued and is currently being cared for by his foster family. However, his time there will be for a short time, as they are unable to foster him for too long. He would love to come to the Seattle area to meet his forever family! Name: Yeonu Breed:Bichon Frise Estimated Age: 4 years Gender: Male Weight: 20 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes Energy Level: 3–4 Yeonu loves plushie toys and enjoys playing fetch when toys with them. Otherwise, he is generally calm and relaxed. On walks, he does not show excessive or reactive behavior. At dog parks, he does not run wildly or rush other dogs. Instead, he greets politely and calmly explores the environment on his own. Good with dogs? Yes, Yeonu gets along well with most dogs. He greets dogs he meets on walks with a wagging tail. At dog parks, he sniffs and says hello politely but does not actively engage in rough or energetic play. He seems to have a more introverted personality. Good with cats? Unknown. Good with kids? Gentle children Sociability with people: Friendly with everyone When Yeonu first arrived at his foster home, he approached each family member sitting in the living room one by one to greet them. He may bark briefly at unfamiliar sounds outside or if someone suddenly appears wearing dark clothing, but he calms down quickly. He approaches strangers happily and wags his tail. Potty trained? Yes. Both on wee wee pads and outdoors. Leash manners: Yes. He may pull a little at the start while sniffing and marking, but it’s easy to manage. After a short time, he usually matches his handler’s pace and walks calmly. Barking: He may bark briefly at unfamiliar sounds but stops quickly when reassured. Separation anxiety: Yes. Yeonu has difficulty being completely alone and may bark or howl when left by himself. If at least one person is home, he does well, though he may whine briefly when his primary caregiver leaves and then settles. Mouthiness/nipping: No aggressive behavior. He loves plushy toys and gently mouths them during play. He takes treats well from an open palm, but when offered with fingertips, he may grab eagerly and accidentally catch fingers. Behavior: Occasionally, he may wake up and bark at a sound in the house, but he calms quickly when reassured. Aside from separation anxiety, no major behavioral issues have been observed. Health Notes: X-rays show a possible issue with the left hip. He has mild patellar luxation, with the right knee graded 2 and the left knee graded 1. When he was rescued, he had kennel cough and mycoplasma, completed treatment, and has fully recovered. Additional Notes: He rides calmly in the car and has been comfortable on rides up to 2 hours. He is comfortable in a dog stroller and relaxes in it. He loves treats very much and sometimes needs calming cues like “sit” before receiving them. He enjoys being petted and likes staying close to people he loves, but he is also comfortable resting on his own at a short distance. When people are eating foods he does not recognize as his own, he calmly lies down under the table or nearby. He enjoys fruits and vegetables such as apples, lettuce, and sweet potatoes. When people become excited, dance, or jump around, he gets excited and may attempt mounting behavior by holding onto legs. He behaves very well during grooming. He has completed hygiene grooming sessions of about 40 minutes. He was slightly sensitive during nail trimming but manageable. Ideal home: A family where at least one person can spend most of the day with him. Additional Comments Yeonu was very attached to his foster mom at first and became anxious when she left, even if others were home. With time and some distance created, he improved a lot. After 3–4 weeks, he only whines briefly when she leaves, though being completely alone is still hard for him. Despite this, he is a very relaxed and easygoing dog. The day after arriving, he was already comfortable lying on the sofa, sleeping on his back with his belly up. He accepts baths calmly, though he may shake off water once or twice. He doesn’t like the hair dryer, but will stay still if it’s on a stand and he’s brushed while drying. Tooth brushing is still being trained; he doesn’t enjoy it but tolerates it well without growling or biting. He knows several commands, including sit, paw, high five, nose touch, V sign, and wait. Food allergies have not been confirmed. Like many Bichon-type dogs, he has tear staining that causes discoloration around his mouth and paws. With proper care and identifying the allergens, this should improve over time. He will also need regular maintenance and grooming, like most Bichons. 🌼Yeonu is a sweetheart and is ready to find his forever family to shower him with love and cuddles!💖 For adoption inquiries, please email/ fill out an adoption application via our link on our instagram bio.🌸

Story
Meet Lilikoi – shy, sweet, and learning to trust Lilikoi is a gentle little pup who’s slowly coming out of her shell. She’s still a bit timid, but every day she gets braver—whether it's trying new things, going up and down stairs, or learning to trust someone new. She’s come a long way already and is full of love for the right person. She sleeps soundly at night and much prefers cuddling up with her person over spending time in a kennel. She's shown signs of being potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents in her foster home, but learning her cues (like sniffing and circling) will help her stay on track. Lilikoi does great with calm, respectful kids and has lived peacefully with another dog—but it’s clear she prefers to be the one and only. She thrives when she has her person all to herself and really just wants to be someone’s shadow. While she’s not aggressive, she’s sensitive and deeply attached to her people. She’s also working through some separation anxiety and tends to bark when left alone, so she’ll do best with someone home more often than not. Her ideal home is quiet and patient, with someone willing to go slow and help her continue to build confidence. Once she bonds, she’s incredibly loyal and affectionate—a true companion dog who wants nothing more than to be close to the one she loves. If you’re looking for a soft, steady presence who will blossom with time and care, Lilikoi might be your perfect match. ----- A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters: Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means: ✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment. ✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing). ✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed. The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like. Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are. Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type. ----- Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Little Dog Rescue. Our dogs come from a variety of sources and backgrounds. They are all in need of adopters that have patience, an understanding of where these dogs have come from, and that there will be an adjustment time when they transition into their forever home. This can include learning basic commands, walking on leash and potty training. Some dogs will pick up on your routine and expectations faster than others. Potty accidents will happen. We find that positive reinforcement, consistency, and routine from the adopter achieves the best results. We are a small, all volunteers team and give 100% of our efforts towards doing right by these pups. We are often juggling many responsibilities at the same time and do our very best to process inquiries and applications in a timely manner. We do prioritize inquiries that have a submitted application on file through the Little Dog Rescue website. We do our best to accurately assign breed designations, however we are unable to guarantee 100% accuracy. Sometimes we only have the dogs appearance to go on. Our adoption fees are thoughtfully considered. The adoption fee is not a purchase price for the dog. It is a fee that is designed to support the overall work of our rescue. Highly desirable dogs and puppies are intentionally listed with a higher adoption fee. This is done to help offset the enormous medical expenses we incur when taking in older pups and special needs medical dogs whose adoption fees do not come close to covering their expenses. In addition, the vast majority of our dogs are brought in from out of state and incur transport fees along with their medical and acquisition costs. We ask that you take all of these things into consideration, and we look forward to finding a great match for your family.
We'll also keep you updated on Keel's adoption status with email updates.

Story
Boom is a Bichon Frise/ Shih Tzu puppy. He loves having a buddy to play with. Boom tends to initiate play when outside, whereas he tends to follow when he is inside. Keel sleeps in the pen with Boom sleeps in a pen in the living room with another dog, usually sprawled out on the floor, not in a bed. He seems to mostly sleep through the night. If he does wake up, he doesn’t wake the household up. Now that he has settled into the house, he takes long naps in the afternoon. He is working on potty training, but will definitely need help. He does not have concerning habits. He hangs out constantly with the other puppy and the kids (ages 12 and 15) without troubles. He met a littermate at the vet, and behaved fine. He is good with children and rides well in a car. -----
