~~Although we do our very best to make sure your new pup is in tiptop health before adoption, things could drastically change a month later.  Since we don’t have a long health history of your adopted dog, we can only treat the pet for whatever symptoms present during the initial exam and follow up exams.~ Health: ***** Chico has CHF and will have to remain on medication to keep it in control. He is doing very well on the meds. No other  obvious health issues have been found during his last vet exam ***** Temperament: Meet Chico, a delightful Pomeranian with soft, slick red hair and a fluffy tail. Resembling a baby fox, Chico is small in stature and is both leash and crate trained. He enjoys car rides, cuddling on the couch, and is obedient, affectionate, and eager to please. Chico is an intelligent, even-tempered, and a gentle companion, with a goofy side that adds charm to his personality. It's important to note that Chico has a heart issue requiring daily medication to prevent coughing. Despite this, Chico brings joy and love, making him an ideal addition to a caring and understanding home. Where did he come from:  Surrendered to our rescue when his owner could no longer care for him. Adoption: ***** $200.00 ***** Weight: 7.4 lbs. Like me, he can be a bit possessive of his treats, ha ha. Joey loves car rides and snuggling in bed, but he'll need a lift up as he refuses to use stairs or ramps. He may even steal your pillow while you're sleeping! Not much of a walker, he prefers to be carried. Although he gets along with other dogs, he prefers his personal space and will only play with them on his terms, not with toys. Housebroken but with a tiny bladder, he needs regular bathroom breaks. Joey enjoys being outdoors but has a bit of a temper - he can go from sweet to growling in a flash. Not recommended for families with kids, as he doesn't like being disturbed from his cozy spot. Despite his unruly hair, he's carefree about it. Joey would thrive in a home with a single person or couple without children, possibly with another dog for company. Where did he come from: Owner did not have enough time for him after work life changes. Adoption: ***** $500.00 ***** Weight: 5.5 lbs. He is a low-maintenance dog who may not be the most affectionate. Unfortunately, he has a history of biting from his time at the shelter. However, in his foster home, he is thriving. It seems like he may have some limitations in his vision and hearing. When startled by a touch, he may react by snapping. But once he recognizes you, he is quick to show affection with kisses. Mushu will require patience and time to build trust and feel comfortable. -- Where did he come from: He was a stray at the Dallas Animal Shelter   Adoption: ***** $200.00 ***** Weight: 11 lbs. This charming 12-year-old, 7lb pup gets along with absolutely everyone, including his foster family's cats whom he adores hanging out with during treat times (Nickels never misses a treat opportunity!). While it seems that Nickels may be a little deaf, he miraculously hears treat bags rustling from a mile away. Nickels loves spending time with his humans but also cherishes his "cave time," where he enjoys taking naps under furniture with his tiny legs sticking out. This low-key and quiet little guy relishes cuddling, short walks, and meal times. He particularly enjoys being brushed and fully relaxes into the experience. When Nickels needs to go outside to potty, he will let you know, promptly does his business, and then politely asks to come back inside. While he tolerates being crated, he has shown in his foster home that he is trustworthy and doesn't really need to be crated. Nickels exhibits excellent manners and would likely adapt well to a home with a dog door. As a tiny senior boy, he would thrive in a household with older, gentle children who understand how to be caring and gentle with him. Could you be the loving family that Nickels has been waiting for?  -- Where did he come from: Surrendered to the New Braunfels animal shelter   Adoption: ***** $400.00 ***** Weight: 7.20 lbs. He is very shy at first but once he warms up, he is a total lover! However, he is not fond of strangers. He will normally attach himself to calm low voiced peopled. He can be rather dramatic when he's scared of someone. He's young but his time in the hoarding home has scarred him. Sadly, he would do best in a home with one or two people and not many visitors. He gets along with other dogs but does not like them in his face. He also does not play with the dogs. Story
Lopez is a sweet boy who recently lost his owners due to their health issues, and ended up in the shelter after being found wandering as a stray. Poor boy, his world fell apart!  He's doing great in his current foster home, loving the other dogs. He is wary of new people who come into the home but warms up fairly well. He just completed his obedience training, so we are happy to report that he is doing better with new people!Lopez is a fun and affectionate boy hoping his next "forever home" will last forever! His ideal home would be a calm place, perhaps with a retired couple or a person without kids. He is good with other dogs, but prefers to be the only dog or to have a play buddy who is bigger than him. Lopez is house trained and despite being a senior dog, he is full of energy and doesn't have any health Issues.  Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. Story
Bree is being fostered in NJ. Her name is Bree but you could also call her Little Miss Perfect! Bree adjusted to her foster home with no problem and immediately found her way around and knew how to get our attention when she needs to go outside. She has the playfulness of a puppy - if you bring Bree into your family, have plenty of squeaky toys on hand. She loves to destroy them! Bree is also happy to sit on your lap or next to you as you relax. She enjoys "watching" TV and will bark if she hears a dog on the screen. She is also a good car rider. She is a well-mannered little girl who knows her manners, like to sit when receiving a treat. And she does expect a treat when she comes back inside from going potty. Bree mostly sleeps in her own dog bed at night, but will sometimes want to sleep in the bed next to someone. Since going blind, she can be reactive when another dog invades her space, or even if Bree invades their space. We've had a few spats but everyone has come out unharmed. It is best to feed Bree in her own space. Even though Bree is a senior dog, she has plenty of playful years ahead of her and will be a joy to any family who adopts her. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Lotus is a 9 year old, 6 lb Pomeranian mix. This handsome little senior Pom lived most of his life in horrible conditions, but he is resilient, and his joyous personality has come to light since his rescue. He loves other dogs and will do best in a home with another small dog to be his companion and playmate. He trusts other dogs before he trusts new people, so his adopters will have to be patient and let him show affection at his own pace. The exception is large dogs; Lotus does not like large dogs and probably had a bad experience with them in his past. Lotus is potty trained using a doggie door. He loves to play with his dog friends, but he will also come and shower his person with kisses once he feels comfortable and secure. He will make someone a very loyal and loving companion. Lotus qualifies for our Senior Dog discount of $125. He has heartworms because he was not kept on heartworm prevention, but Humane Tomorrow will pay for his treatment with our vet.

Story
Meet Paxton! Paxton is an adorable and mischievous 3-year-old male Pomeranian weighing in at 4lbs. He is neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations. He made his way to Saving Hope Rescue as part of a breeder surrender though no fault of his own. Despite his size, Paxton packs a punch in the excessive vocal department particularly when he feels alone. He will be best suited in a home only and no apartments please. The ideal home would have someone who works from home fulltime. Housetraining is ongoing and until mastered, he will require a bellyband and consistent outings. He has proven to be stubborn in this area, but small victories are celebrated. In his foster home, Paxton lives with many dogs of all ages and sizes. He does incredibly well with socialization and has a high level of comfortability with his own kind. In meeting new people, he tends to be a bit nervous, but curiosity gets the best of him. Paxton is best suited and safest with adults and children 10 years and older due to his size, fragility, and sensitivity. He enjoys toys, but his focus lies on household items which are not in his best interest. Thus, his engaged playfulness will need to be redirected positively with a vigilant eye. Breed knowledge is preferred as Paxton will require regular grooming and teeth cleaning as this breed is prone to dental disease. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt It doesn't obligate you, but it is the first step. We don't get to all of the inquiries but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!
