Story
Athena is a 5-year-old Rat Terrier looking for her second chance at forever. She spent the first few years of her life in a puppy mill before being rescued and adopted through Buffalo Pug Rescue. After a year in a loving home, she was sadly returned to rescue due to the unforeseen decline of her adopter's health. The following information is what we know to be true, based on her previous stay with our rescue. Anything new that we learn will be added to this bio after she's spent a little more time in her current foster home. Athena is potty trained, crate trained, and sleeps well through the night. She may fuss for a few minutes when settling into her crate, but quickly relaxes. She's playful, attentive, and loves being close to her people. Her initial adopter noted that she was anxious around other dogs. However, she is content to lounge in the presence her foster siblings. Like many puppy mill survivors, Athena bonds most strongly with women . Although she gladly takes chicken from her foster dad, she is generally is nervous around men. She'll need a patient family willing to let her build trust at her own pace. Once she feels safe, she's a loyal little companion who loves attention, affection, and long strolls through the neighborhood. Athena is looking for a forever family that has a fully fenced backyard and will give her the love & security she deserves. Could that be you? NY State Rescue Registry: RR363

Story
Best friend Buddy is the total package. He loves people and greets everyone, always eager for attention.   At 12, Buddy ended up in a rural Tennessee shelter. We do not know his backstory or why such a sweet boy would land in a shelter. We may never know.     At Critter Cavalry, we adore seniors and believe they deserve every chance to find a loving home. You won’t regret considering Buddy—he loves everyone, whether human or animal. Buddy is everyone’s best friend.     Buddy is healthy for a senior. He has limited sight and hearing, but is otherwise in good shape. He navigates his foster home easily and enjoys exploring the fenced yard. He comes when called—just use a louder voice.   Buddy is ready to retire with a couple eager to add him to their family. He’d love a fenced yard to explore—size isn’t important—and an active retirement with short walks and car rides. He will be a wonderful addition to a family that matches his lifestyle.   If you want a new best friend, Buddy is perfect for you. To learn more about adopting him, contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com or 615-943-7311. Approved application and adoption fee required.    June 23, 2026, 5:01 pm

Story
Notes from NYACC and her previous owner. Butta is described as independent yet social and affectionate dog who spends most of her time in the living room of her home. She loves bath time and water, has never been crated and knows stay", "sit", "don’t move", "come", "let’s go", and "ready to eat". She's accustomed to going on 1-2 walks a day for 15mins at a time and does not pull on her leash during. Her favorite snack is chicken, she primarily eats Purina Puppy Chow dry food, and she loves all dog toys. She is known to prefer contact on her own terms at first and likes to have a blanket or towel for comfort when she is feeling scared of new people or loud noises. When she arrived she was fearful and shy but has come out of her shell and loves people and walks and watching everything around her. She is a pretty, the perfect age and ready for a new life! Currently she is in a foster in CT. She would make a great companion dog.

Story
Update: Through no fault of his own, sadly, Hank was returned from a recent Slumber Party. They said he was well behaved and did nothing wrong. They just aren’t ready to adopt after losing their dog.Are you looking for a fun co-pilot for all your adventures? An active companion to join you on your daily walk? A smart buddy with a lot of personality and character? Look no further than Hank the Tank! He's a perfect medium size at just under 30 lbs., is past the puppy shenanigans stage at around 3 years old, and he's got a smiling face that is sure to win you over. Hank had the misfortune of losing his home through no fault of his own, and found himself at the shelter waiting to be noticed by his new forever family. He has a lot going for him; he's already house trained, walks nicely on a leash, and loves to curl up with you for nap time. He would prefer a home without young kids or small pets, but may be able to get along with other dogs (He prefers to decide on a case-by-case basis! We love a discerning short king!). He gets along with older kids/teens. If you've been waiting to find a dog with charm in abundance and a bright mind who can't wait to become your best friend forever, check Hank out!Hank “the Tank” arrived at NCCR on 5/10/26, rescued from abandonment when his owner moved out and left Hank and several other dogs shut inside their house alone. He is an approximately 3-year-old male, believed to have Rat Terrier and/or Jack Russell Terrier, Beagle, and probably another breed or two in his mix.*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he/she is a great fit.  If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!

Story
Ramesses / Pascal really needs a new BEST FRIEND! This 4 year old 15lb RAT TERRIER mix has been through so much, and despite all this, he is so gentle and sweet, and loves all dogs, cats and people! He was rescued from the shelter two and a half years ago...his spirit was broken and he was very ill. A few months at Hotel Steve and he was thriving but still scared and nervous so he was returned twice before he found the man who would love him more than we could have wished for .. This precious little boy finally knew what love felt like and he went from Pascal to a strong pharaoh named Ramesses ... Sadly he was at home alone with his dad and best friend when fate was cruel and he lost the most important person in his world. ***Blessings to Julius Hawkins Jr. RIP whom we lost too young *** We are grateful to everyone who helped get him back out of the shelter so he could be at Hotel Steve while he recovers. Ramesses is housebroken and paper trained, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. He is the most amazing sweet and gentle baby boy. If you want a true ride or die forever companion... This is your guy. Ramesses is located in NYC.
