Story
Hello! My name is Wednesday. I am available to adopt or foster. Wednesday came to the shelter as a stray, and our staff and volunteers are still getting to know her. She’s a young, high-energy girl with an active spirit who’s searching for a dog-savvy family ready for a true hiking and adventure buddy.Wednesday can be strong on leash, but with a family committed to daily exercise and enrichment, we think she could do well in either a home or apartment setting. She’s an athletic, go-go-go kind of gal who thrives when she has an outlet for her energy. She has been around children but would do best in a home with older kids who can respect her size, strength, and need for personal space. In playgroup, Wednesday has done well with younger, active, playful male dogs and has quickly earned the title of “queen of the yard.” She enjoys rough-and-tumble play and would be overwhelming for more laid-back or reserved dogs. Wednesday is looking for a canine companion who can match her energy level and play style, and she has shown a preference for male dogs over female dogs.If you’re an active household looking for a confident, adventurous dog to join you on life’s next trail, Wednesday might just be your perfect match. Come meet her at the shelter and see if she rules your heart, too! Stop by the shelter during regular business hours to visit available pets. AVHS is open 6 days a week 11am-6pm, closed Wednesdays, adoptions wrap up at 5:30pm each day. Please note: Pet descriptions are based on what we`ve observed or might expect. Pets may behave differently in a home, so we recommend slow introductions and training support. Ask about the `3-3-3 rule` when bringing home a new pet.

Story
Clyde was abandoned, along with another Rottweiler, Bonnie, in a remote area on Interstate 90. Volunteers, including SVPS founders Susan Burk and Dorie Ross, helped to capture them and get them to the local shelter for their mandatory hold time. Following their hold time, they were transferred to our rescue. His age is estimated to be 4-5 years old. Both Bonnie and Clyde are currently in a boarding and training program, where they are doing incredibly well. They are both goofy, lovable dogs that will make great family members. Both would like to eat their meals in one big gulp, but they are being trained to wait until they are given the command to eat, and we have them eating from slow feeder bowls, which is helping. They aren’t exhibiting resource guarding behavior. While Bonnie and Clyde were found together and obviously lived together previously, they are not a bonded pair, and our trainer has recommended that they be separated. They listen and work better when being trained one on one. As for other dogs, they have been indifferent so far when seeing other dogs at the training facility and will need to meet and be evaluated with any dogs already in the family. Clyde is pretty outgoing and warms up to people quickly. He’s a happy boy who loves attention. Since being in board and train, his confidence has grown along with his obedience training, and we have no doubt it will continue to do so.
