Meet the cutest little guy around! He is a compact ball of love and we call him our "Walmart Greeter". Carson's person died a couple of years ago and he is needing a new home. Carson is a happy little guy who loves everyone and gets along great with other dogs. Carson is playful, housebroken, snuggly, likes to play with toys and would love a family to call his own again. This little guy is part Shih Tzu part.... Bassett?? A short, stocky little man for sure. Don't let those little legs fool you though, he likes to run and play with the big dogs. Carson is housebroken, so the hard work is done for you! He is an adult with a lot of life left! Let him snuggle up to you and you can heal his little heart. If you'd like to adopt Carson, please fill out our online application at www.goofyfootrescue.org Carson is in foster care in West TN and will be transported once his adoption is finalized.

Story
You know who have really been thriving around here lately? FLEAS! They have run quite rampant apparently over the summer in the local inner city where we pull so many dogs. (Readily available flea and tick prevention clearly hasn’t been discovered there yet). We have seen some of the biggest juiciest healthiest fleas these past few weeks and most long-term infested flea dirt covered dogs that we have had come into rescue for a long time. While we try to help save most living creatures, fleas are not one of them and we have probably killed thousands just this past weekend alone on dogs we rescued. 🪦 ☠️ 👋 🐜 Dogs like Umberto are so much happier and more comfortable without their itchy freeloading friends they bring along with them. This sweet matted senior Shih tzu was filthy and matted, with fleas crawling across the clippers as we were shaving him 🤢 He’s a very nice boy, his rotting teeth have been pulled, he’s been shaved down and neutered, and he’s ready for a better life and forever home. We noticed he drinks a LOT of water and has vey dilute urine… He’s been with us a couple weeks getting a medical work up to rule out Cushing’s and other conditions, but it seems to just be early chronic kidney disease causing it. He is surprisingly housebroken in foster and can hold it for a long period but does pee for a LOOONNNGGG time when taken out and prefers more frequent outings. He has a great appetite and is on low protein diet longterm and will need regular veterinary care and of course grooming and flea and tick prevention to keep him feeling his best. He likes other dogs and is a quiet easy to love little guy, probably at least 10-12 years old. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet the newly flea-free Umberto in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Scrappy had a crappy owner and crappy life and is ready for a fresh start! His owners were evicted and just left him behind in the vacant apartment, a scared defensive matted mess. He’s just a baby, 1-2 years old and took some time to feel safe but is sweet and playful once he warms up. He’s a Shih Tzu or maybe Lhasa mix, 15lbs and now has been neutered and updated on shots. He had untreated chronic dry eye and is on prescription medication for life- he was a bit dramatic and convinced we were trying to blind him with the eye drops but now is calming down since he realizes it helps him feel better and is much more cooperative for his twice daily treatments. He’s a cute but quirky guy who definitely needs his space at first but lovable once he lets down his guard. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Scrappy in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Michael Scott! At first glance, he seems like a loud, rude, obnoxious jerk. But if you make it past the awful first impression, you will find he can actually be a lovable goofy buffoon and fun to hang out with, and will keep you laughing. There’s definitely room for some character development, especially improvement with impulse control and learning to keep his mouth shut and be less offensive in public. But he probably won’t be the worst dog-boss you have ever had. Just a year old, he was surrendered to animal control for being “too hyper”, definitely still in his puppy phase. He growled at the vet so loudly they couldn’t even listen to his heartbeat and barks ferociously at first with new people, but deep down he’s just nervous and afraid of ending up alone. He’s been fine with other little dogs and they seem to normal him out a bit- he seems like a dog that was taken from his mom way too young and never got enough attention, so he makes sure he’s the center of attention at all times now. He’s only 12lbs, some kind of Shih Tzu mix, is updated on shots and we have had him neutered so he won’t be demanding you to set him up on dates. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet the Michael Scott of Northern NJ. Applications from Scranton, PA will be given preference😜 Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   If you would like to take me home please complete a Pet Adoption Application   Male Shih Tzu Maximus is a young Shih Tzu who came to us from a large hoarding situation where more than 50 dogs lived together. Because of this, he hasn’t had much one-on-one attention and is still learning that people can be safe and loving.   He will do best in a quiet, patient home with a secure X-pen or fenced area, since he doesn’t yet know how to walk on a leash. He’s good with other dogs, but when it comes to children, he may need time to feel comfortable.   Maximus will need patience, love, and consistency as he learns to trust. Please note: he is not housebroken yet, so his future family should be prepared to help him with training and cheer him on as he makes progress.   If you’re looking for a sweet pup who just needs time and understanding to shine, Maximus could be your new best friend.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  February 13, 2026, 12:41 pm

Story
Meet Mei Mei!&#226&#128&#168Born in February 2022 and weighing under 15 pounds, Mei Mei is a pocket-sized bundle of happy energy. This sweet girl has one main goal in life: to be close to her people. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or moving around the house, she’ll be right there with you—tail wagging and heart full. Mei Mei is a champion snuggler who loves to curl up on your lap or in a cozy bed. But she’s not a total couch potato, either. When she’s not glued to her foster mom’s side or napping, she loves to sniff around the yard or play with her foster siblings. She does have hip dysplasia, but it doesn’t appear to cause her pain and the vet is not recommending surgery at this time. She gets around well and still has plenty of pep in her step. Check out the video of her taking a walk & see just how well she gets around on leash! Mei Mei is perfectly housetrained, too. On 1/28/2026: Foster mom's update on Mei Mei said she was home alone with the other dogs for about 2 and a half hours this morning and did really well! She wandered and howled a little bit, but no destructive or frantic behavior at all. If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a huge heart, Mei Mei might be your perfect match. She’s ready to shower her forever family with love, loyalty, and endless snuggles. To meet Miss Mei Mei, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name, NAC'S MEI MEI TX!January 28, 2026, 12:00 pm
